The Boston Bruins have made two solid additions today thusfar that will help them in the playoffs.
Defenseman Steve Montador, a real pain in the ass to play against 6' 0" 210lbs and a PLUS player with 125 PIMs will shore up their blueline and add some sandpaper.
The Bruins ALSO have added right wing Mark Recchi, a former Stanley Cup winner and a 13 goal shooter thus far this season.
The Bruins have gotten better with these two pick ups.
The Calgary Flames have also gotten much better with puck moving defenseman Jordan Leopold (joining the Flames for a second time) with takes pressure off of Dion Phaneuf AND they add top line center Olli Jokinen. Jokinen has never been to the playoffs before but he's a big center with playmaking ability.
Johnny doesn't think this quite brings the Flames into the same category as the Red Wings and Sharks but it certainly separates them from teams below them like Vancouver, Chicago and the like.
The New York Rangers have traded for Nik Antropov from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Rags get a big right winger 6'6" and 230 and for a bad team Antropov has 21 goals.
All this for a second round pick and a conditional pick
Wow, Derek Morris to the New York Rangers as well. The Rangers have today upgraded defense, and forward positions. With the Sean Avery freak show they add, well a freak show, with Antropov they add a big scoring winger and with Morris they had picked up a strong offensive defenseman...

Watching the Calgary trades, I'd expect San Jose to overreact about now. Detroit not so much
ReplyDeleteWord from TSN now says that the Islanders have sent forward Bill Guerin to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
ReplyDeleteIt gives the Pens options up front on their top two lines.
One hour to go and the Devil remain quiet, we're hearing a defense upgrade over at MSG is in the works

ReplyDeleteA few trades may yet trickle in
The Rangers have given up Kalinin, Dawes and Prucha for Morris
ReplyDeleteJohnny was BUSY today!
ReplyDeleteJohnny was watching the TSN trade day feed so you didn't have to.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised the Devils didn't make another deal. I really thought they'd add a forward or a puck moving defenseman
