Nobody is a bigger proponent of women in rock music than Johnny. Nobody. He was hooked by Ronnie Spector's warble, Pat Benatar's octave range, Ann Wilson's power, Chrissie Hynde's defiance and strength and Madonna's dance music. He's had three favorites in his time on this pale blue dot. Debbie Harry, Sheryl Crow and Neko Case. Tonight he looked on with great eagerness as Sheryl Crow and Neko Case shared the stage on Elvis Costello's series on Sundance, Spectacle. Something he never imagined possible until this magnificent series but something that truly truly touched him. We'll be playing clips from this episode taped at the Apollo Theater across the river in September. Tonight before bed it's Sheryl Crow with Neko Case on backing vocal and Elvis Costello on geetar with the classic 'Leaving Las Vegas'.
Time for Jersey City, After Dark
Great tune and a great combo of talent on that stage, Johnny. Good STUFF!
ReplyDeleteIt was so awesome. I've watched this clip 3 or 4 times today
ReplyDeleteI also feel bad I forgot to mention the growl of Wanda Jackson in my female inspirations.
