Give the supermarkets a break, shop truly locally at all the Farmer's Markets

Forget for a moment the simple fact that fresh produce is healthier than store bought produce as it doesn't tend to sit around or on certain items in supermarkets get magical new expiration dates. Fresher means healthier. It also means your produce can wind up costing you a little bit less helping you stretch your food dollar, especially these days.

Another benefit is that this fresh produce costs far less than supermarket produce because it's not shipped in from other states, using gas, running down roads and in small ways costing you the taxpayer more.

With some of these Farmer's Markets in neighborhoods like Hamilton Park and right off of busy PATH stations at Journal Square and Grove St., the convenience is all yours.

Here is the list of farmer's Markets locally (read all three pages) and they days you can drop by and pick some fresh, healthy and inexpensive food.

  1. Put down that farm fresh tomato, Johnny - it's MINE. You're so right about farmer's market fare - it's fresh and fortifying. Get to know a farmer!
