The Jersey City Desk applauds Superintendent of Schools Charles T. Epps Jr for cleaning up Lincoln High

Word on the street says that a whole bunch of higher ups at Lincoln High School here in Jersey City were fixing grades so certain athletes could remain eligible to play for the Lions. Superintendent of Schools Charles T. Epps Jr. had apparently seen and heard enough himself and has suspended Lincoln Principal Jeanette McRae Braswell, school athletic director Artie Williams, and Snyder Vice Principal John Gonzalez. Three other staff members at LHS could also be on a fast track out of a job.

We applaud Mr. Epps for his actions. What does it tell high school students if cheating is permitted and encouraged? And you want kids NOT to cheat on tests to get ahead? Good luck sending that message with the athletics fiasco. The principal, the AD and everyone else should have known it was crooked and wrong to even start such a practice. Cheating so high school students can remain eligible -- heinous. Let them fall below a 2.0 GPA and see what happens in real life when you're found unqualified to participate.

We would.

  1. Bravo, Johnny. Well-stated. I'd also like to give a shout-out to those students at Lincoln who do work their tails off - at least now they won't have to watch others move to the front of the line who cannot even spell the word LINE.
