And good readers we'd love to know some of YOUR favorite movies that may or may not have won the Best Picture Academy Award, some of your favorite actors and actresses and maybe you'd like to share some of your most hated Oscar snubs. Johnny will start that category off by wondering how in the fresh hell Kramer vs. Kramer beat Apocalypse Now for best picture. Another of Johnny's hacked off Oscar moments was Joaquin Phoenix somehow NOT winning the Best Supporting Actor statue for his otherworldly performance of Emperor Commodus in Gladiator. Johnny most likely WOULD have been tuning in tonight if the Academy hadn't lost their minds and not nominated Mila Kunis for Black Swan. Stop giving out gift bags to rich people and start nominating those most worthy AND give the viewers at home an 'eye candy bag' with Ms. Kunis.
So Johnny hopes Natalie Portman wins but past that doesn't really much care. Your thoughts?
I tuned in for most of the telecast last night and it was dull, dull, dull. Anne Hathaway was very pretty and very game but James Franco seemed ill-at-ease. My Oscar annoyance was that Hailee Steinfeld, who was in every frame of 'True Grit' was only nominated as supporting actress when she should have been nominated for her leading role. I happened to see 'The Fighter' on Saturday night and I must say Melissa Leo and Christian Bale really deserved their hardware. Leo was particularly ferocious as the manager/promoter/mother of boxer Micky Ward, with a huge blind spot when it came to the foibles and demons of her other son, former boxer and crack addict Dick Eklund, played by Christian Bale.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading some pretty harsh commentary that in a lot of ways this was the worst Oscars ever. Maybe because every big winner was predicted last year. Maybe it was the hosts. Maybe the movies themselves didn't capture the American public.
ReplyDeleteIMHO Leo's nomination was Mila Kunis' to have so a second tier nominee walked away with the proze in that category.
I really disliked Christian Bale's website promo shoutout. I think the audience did too.
Just thinking, maybe Charlie Sheen should host next year
ReplyDeleteLOL - I believe Charlie Sheen will be available!
ReplyDeleteYes, Bale's website shoutout was crass. Plus I think he was lit.
