There you go, that's forward thinking. Somebody at the City offices and or city engineers need to get their heads out of their behinds.
Abbey's Pub and Grill had a wheelchair ramp that their handicapped patrons appreciated. But, in order to make the sidewalk in front of Abbey's more handicap compliant, the city ripped out the wheelchair ramp, you know, like ya do. Abbey's owner Abbey Tarei said the city told him that they would replace his ramp with a new one. That was until they had pulled the wool over his eyes and actually destroyed Abbey's ramp then the city reneged on the promise according to Tarei:
"They said, 'Whatever we take out, we'll put back in."
Yeah, then suddenly the city's position changed and Tarei was on the hook to replace it. Are you ready for a LAME excuse? Here's Jersey City spokesmodel Jennifer Morrill:
"Any ramp entering a building must be ADA-compliant, and apparently what was there previously was not ADA-compliant."
Here's our question Ms. Morrill, how would you know it wasn't compliant? You certainly didn't broach this topic with Mr. Tarei BEFORE you ripped it out and now it'd be kind of hard to tell if it WAS non-complaint because your people destroyed it.
Gotta love how this city with no money can manage stunts like these. Come on Jersey City, do the right thing and replace the ramp YOU tore down, it'd be the right thing to do.
