No, not Euro-trash like you might find hanging out at the Powerhouse Lounge on a Saturday night (Oh we're gonna catch hell for that one), but eTrash or solar powered trash cans.
In time there will be over 100 of these solar powered trash units. The actual names of the trash cans are -- wait, who cares, we like e-Trash, BUT they do save up to 80% of the effort it would take to empty regular trash bins. These e-Trash machines only need to be emptied one every other week rather than every day as they come with their own solar powered compactors. That's right, you toss it in and it gets compacted while you walk on. These cans also seal closed meaning much less smell from this can as opposed to the regular kind. Each can comes with a wireless sensor to tell the garbage man when it's time for a pickup.
The city is paying for the compactors with $436,138 of a $2.3 million federal grant it was awarded last year to implement energy-efficient projects.
