After Mayor Healy made his claims that crime was down and not as bad as it seemed in Jersey City during the state of the city address the other night a lot of people scoffed. A LOT of people. So, perhaps feeling like the question needed to be revisited, Mayor Healy had a press conference with police chief Tom Comey. Healy said there was a "disconnect" between the citizens and the crime numbers Healy is touting. When asked how this "disconnect" happened, Healy blamed the Jersey Journal, the internet and fine upstanding websites like the Jersey City Desk.
“It’s a perception. It comes from your newspaper,” he said. “It comes from the internet and the blogosphere.” said Healy to the Jersey Journal reporter asking the question.
So everyone, whenever Johnny posts a story on a criminal run amok in Jersey City, don't worry, that's just "perception." Johnny is just perceiving that there was a crime. When the Jersey Journal posts stories about crime happening or bad guys being arrested or people being killed, they are just perceiving there to be an issue. See how that works in Healyland®? If this kind of thing wasn't written about, discussed or worried about the perception Healy is anxious to promote becomes reality.
Sadly, the reality is, the "disconnect" is between Healy and the voters who walk the streets and put bars on their windows.
Perception indeed....
