The Powerhouse Lounge (And the Powerhouse Lounge shuttle van looks so much better with the real address on the side rather than the old misspelling of Marin -- yeah, Johnny saw that) at 300 Marin Blvd. from 11am until 4pm. They are asking a $5 donation at the door for the Red Cross Sandy relief effort. Do what you can.
This is a huge event people, plan on getting there early. Christmas and holiday gifts galore and this sale has got something not a lot of other stores have while you shop. Can you get a cocktail at Target? Can you savor a good beer at Wally-Mart? That's right, this is the Powerhouse Lounge, drinks ahoy!
And don't forget, this Saturday is "just put that anywhere" parking all across our fair city from 1-1:15pm. For anyone unfamiliar with "just put that anywhere" parking it happens every December 1st and means what it says but the Jersey City tradition is that if you do get a ticket from 1-1:15 you just go toss it in the Hudson River for good luck all the year long.
Also, before or after the craft fair make sure to get over to K9dergarten for See Spot Rescued's adoption event!

While police were distracted over at 8th and Dale a chicken pot pie ran away
Now we have no idea what city this lol nugget is from but it seems someone who lives at or near the corner of 8th and Dale is snowed in. While the city was busy answering (or apparently NOT answering) the call for city services at 8th and Dale, a chicken pot pie -- no make that a Swanson chicken pot pie -- ran east on Clay St.
Well played Swanson chicken pot pie, well played.

We don't normally care about the celebrity scene in NYC
Because well there are only about 30 other great blogs you can get this info from. However when you can discuss "Hurricane Lohan" and her neverending NYC exploits, well then we'll be happy to take the extra traffic for a "Lindsay Lohan arrested" post.
Yes everyone's non-favorite party gal was arrested in Chelsea early this morning and charged with third-degree assault after a fight at a nightclub. We're not sure which Bible verses that Lohan and the other woman were debating before it escalated into a fight but LiLo had been banned from this very club, Club Avenue at 10th Ave and 17th St., earlier this year. Apparently either the ban had been lifted or Lohan snuck into Club Avenue dressed as Liz Taylor complete with a horrid overacting persona.
This is Lindsay's (can we call you Lindsay?) third run in this calendar year with cops which of course means one more and she gets her own reality show on TLC.

As for those LED lights now adorning the Empire State Building
We realize the "disco ball" light show the other night was just that, swirling and going through all the lights and combinations to show all of New York and New Jersey what they could do. A lot of people were wowed by this according to the many videos up on Youtube of the event. Here's Johnny's take. Yes, the solid light colors will work much better as they are brighter and can be seen better from longer distances. The addition of more colors is fine.
But can we keep it from the disco ball swirling lights we saw the other night? Can we keep this iconic lighted superstructure from say "cheapening" itself by the swirly lights ALL the time? Can we keep it like it was before where it was lit up in certain colors for certain holidays and certain events without the need for this?
Yes, when the local sports teams win go crazy with their colors but for regular school nights, please for us photographers, can we keep solid colors as the norm?

Remember when we warned that red-light cameras actually cause MORE accidents?
Well the only part we were wrong about is that they are also more costly insurance-wise than accidents at other intersections without red-light cameras. Johnny has raised a stink to the level people in certain offices detest him over this issue. He sure wishes New Jersey residents, Jersey City residents in particular would finally STAND UP to our current administration and tell them no more and pull down the ones they have installed now.
Hey, it's YOUR safety kids.
If you won't listen to Johnny will you listen to the New Jersey Department of Transportation?
A New Jersey Department of Transportation analysis of two dozen intersections that have had the automated traffic cops for at least a year found that accidents — particularly rear-end crashes — have increased, and the collisions are more costly.
Then there is this from a representative of one of the companies making a killing with your money FOR DOING NOTHING, they EXPECTED these accidents:
"Driver behavior doesn’t change overnight, but the findings in this report are largely consistent with programs around the country," said Charles Territo...
Consistent, so costly accidents go up for at least a year? That's nice isn't it?
Read more on this dalliance with your safety and your insurance rates and then please contact your local elected representatives and tell them no more and get rid of the cameras already installed.

Johnny was part of an online discussion tonight when the topic of immigration came up. One of the posters was adamant that we needed to build a 200 foot tall fence along the border with Mexico. Johnny asked to make sure, 200 feet? Yes, 200 feet tall was the reply. Johnny then asked the person since a story is about ten feet he was proposing a wall about 20 stories tall. Johnny then asked said person exactly how high he thought illegal immigrants were capable of jumping.

See Spot Rescued is having an adoption event this upcoming Saturday
And what goes better with the Holiday season that a warm puppy? Or a wonderful older pup who is just aces with kids and families? Our friends at See Spot Rescued are holding an adoption event this upcoming Saturday at K9dergarten at 173 Newark Ave. from 12-4.
See Spot Rescued has a wonderful selection of great dogs looking for a forever home. If you follow this link to their Facebook page you can see some of the great pooches ready for adoption. The dogs come spayed or neutered and are microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. How does Johnny know this? He adopted his Game of Thrones dire wolf from SSR (well OK they'd probably get upset with Johnny saying they have actual dire wolves for adoption so let's just say a small dire wolf lookalike). You will be AMAZED at how cute these pups are. Johnny never misses a chance to tell people when they comment how cute his dog is that he got her from See Spot Rescued. People seem surprised that it's not a dog with three legs or cut up from dogfighting. NO, these pups are cute and loving and wonderful.
They just need you.

* Governor Christie's approval numbers are way up after Superstorm Sandy.

PATH Updates: Exchange Place and WTC are back on line tomorrow
Again, limited hours for Exchange Place and the WTC stops, 5am til 10pm just like the other stops when they started back up. Also of note, 9th St. and Christopher St. stops will be allowing normal traffic beginning tomorrow.
So, the only PATH station/stop not running is Hoboken. We have no word on when it will be back up. The Port Authority is still doing their best imitation of a dead person when it comes to giving information. The announcement of the WTC, Exchange Place and the 9th and Christopher St. updates were made by Governors Christie and Cuomo. So it would appear Hoboken is cut off from the rest of the world for another week or so. Somebody at the Port Authority needs to see the back of the unemployment line after this. ALL the other stations are back up and running. Hoboken? Not so much. No word, no update. Why does the Port Authority even bother with a Twitter account to update riders? They have 3 posts in the last 9 days.

Johnny's break-up letter to the Duane Reade Pharmacy
Dear Duane Reade/Walgreens,
Strike three. Three times in the last month you have been handed a prescription from Johnny, prescriptions he is told by his doctor aren't all that uncommon. In fact the last prescription he got on Wednesday he specifically asked his doctor if Duane Reade should have this particular drug onhand. He assured Johnny they should. "It's pretty common."
Fast forward to today. Bzzzzzzt. Nope, "We don't have that in stock, come back Monday after 2pm." Isn't that special? A med to help with pain and discomfort, just come back Monday, MONDAY after 2pm. This is the third time in the span of about a month he's been told to, like in the Wizard of Oz, "Go away and come back tomorrow." Or in this case come back next week.
So Duane Reade and your new paymasters at Walgreens, this was it. Johnny will happily find a new pharmacy. You obviously can't handle the needs of the community pharmacy-wise, so a new pharmacy is needed. He can't wait three days for his meds. Nobody should have to.
One more note for the folks at DR, this also means Johnny will stop at a local bodega for chips and what not on those nights he gets off the PATH and he needs chips or some bread or a beverage. He'll choose to pay more at a local business because after Monday, Duane Reade is persona non-gratis. If you can't uphold your most basic store tenet don't expect Johnny to do it either.
Vaya con Dios Duane Reade.
Sincerely,
Johnny

One more time with the Sanchez fumble from last night
Because it's just not often you see a highly paid QB get blasted into the turf by the ass of his own lineman, and then have the resulting fumble returned for a touchdown (New England scored 35 points in the second quarter while holding the ball for just over two of the fifteen minutes involved). This clip is an instant classic....of fail.
The spire that will sit atop the WTC is on the way
The spire that will sit atop the 1 World Trade building which will give it it's iconic 1,776 feet in height is on the way by barge, being delivered in eighteen sections. The Associated Press picks up the story:
Eight of the sections are being transported via barge 1,500 nautical miles south from Canada on the Atlantic Salvor. It left Quebec on Nov. 16 and is expected next week at Port Newark in New Jersey.
When the time comes for the sections to be installed it will take about three months to complete. The spire itself will stand 408 feet in the air from the top of the WTC.

Last night was the night Cory Booker lost Newark
You can make this claim or that claim over his perfectly legally if not tone-deaf appointment of ally Shanique Davis Speight over the will of the residents of Newark and others on the board. But by doing this Booker had to know pretty much what was coming, an angry mob. Well Cory, it happened. Like we said you can argue the merits of this person over that person but in waiting for such a dramatic time (Cory's not often seen at city council meetings in Newark) and showing up in person to do the deed was going to set a lot of people off. Sorry about the ad at the beginning of this video of the "Ruckus in Newark" but you can skip it after 5 seconds. You can move the clip up to about the 2:30 mark for the fireworks and see Rahaman Muhammad, president of SEIU's 617 local act like a complete and total ass in "allegedly" shoving Speight to the ground while her son watches. Muhammad was arrested for these actions and charged with assault, resisting arrest and inciting a riot.
Cory, Cory, Cory, we like you, we do, but this was slimy and there's no excuse for that. You're going to wind up a mayor without a city if this blows up. Forget challenging Chris Christie for governor now. The odds were gonna be long even before Christie's 16 point jump in the polls after Superstorm Sandy but now? Pffffft, forget it.

Crime shocker: Cops in Brooklyn looking for "John Doe Duffle Bag" and "Jane Doe Long Coat"
OK follow along, this IS a serious thing but well, it's Johnny and all. Police in Brooklyn are looking for two people they say can help in an ongoing serial killer (got your attention NOW don't we?) targeting Middle-Eastern store owners. "John Doe Duffle Bag" and "Jane Doe Long Coat" are being sought in connection to the murder of 78-year-old Vahidipour Rahmatollah, who was found shot to death in his Flathbush Avenue boutique on Friday evening. Police say the real suspect is "John Doe Duffle Bag" while they think just maybe "Jane Doe Long Coat" saw something that might be helpful.
NYPD say that shell casings found in the shop are from the same gun used to kill two other Middle Eastern store owners in Brooklyn over the summer. Yep, we'd guess serial killer. Police said they were looking for a motive but again, as with any serial killer the motive IS murder and the rest are just quirks.
Watch this video clip and view the image below. Please, if you can help or you recognize anyone do your part citizen and take a disgusting loser off the streets of Brooklyn.

Yep, Maryland's in and Rutgers will follow suit today
Just a quick update to yesterday's story -- Maryland did indeed agree to join the Big Ten starting in 2014 and Rutgers will follow suit today.
Rutgers can start on expanding football seating and building a new basketball arena. In the Big Ten you're only allowed to have a dump basketball arena if your name is Minnesota. In fact the great former head coach at Michigan State Jud Heathcote was asked how to improve Williams Arena in Minneapolis and his words were "Burn it to the ground."
Don't be THAT school Rutgers, get digging.
Your thoughts?

Rutgers and Maryland are set to join the Big Ten Conference word around the campfire has it
The Rutgers Board of Governors is set to meet this morning before the usual trustees meeting and everyone believes that the closed door part of the meeting agenda is the approval (or not) of the Scarlet Knights to pick up new playdates aka Michigan State, Penn State, Minnesota, Iowa and the rest. Also expected to make the decision to join the Big Ten is the University of Maryland as there are currently no turtle-styled mascots in the Big Ten yet.
The choice is clear for Rutgers -- the Big East is disintegrating yearly and the Big Ten is a top flight and fairly stable conference. Teams leave FOR the Big Ten, not from it. While in Maryland's case the ACC is more stable it still is experiencing turnover. This also gives the Big Ten something it has long wanted, an in to the east coast and NYC media markets.
Each new school brings something to the table athletically. Maryland is a traditional power in basketball while Rutgers would more than be holding their own in the Big Ten football this year. The part Rutgers fans wouldn't like much is the basketball aspect. The Scarlet Knight five have already lost to MAAC team St. Peters and the Big Ten has three teams in the top ten nationally. One you'd expect to be there, Michigan State simply shows up at the Final Four so often Tom Izzo gets frequent coaching miles. So Big Ten hoops will force Rutgers to step up their recruiting game which in the end is a good thing.
But how will the Big Ten rejigger their stupid "Leaders and Legends divisions"? See in the Big Ten you can't have and east and west or north and south conference, no they hired consultants who somehow landed on Leaders and Legends. It's silly yes, while former Nebraska head football coach Tom Osborne is a leader and a legend he never coached much in the Big Ten but the Big Ten Network still hypes him like he did. So where is Johnny's guess they land in the brave new 14 team Big TEN?
LEGENDS: Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern
LEADERS: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin
We'd guess Maryland to the Legends and Rutgers to the Leaders. We say Rutgers to the Leaders as no doubt the Big Ten will want some kind of Penn State-Rutgers rivalry, ie New Jersey vs. Pennsylvania. This of course is nothing but wild speculation at the current time. Rivalry games and crossover games will of course factor into scheduling/slotting.
Confused? Well take heart and enjoy the ride. Connecticut and Syracuse fans pay attention, you're next.

Some pretty staggering numbers on Superstorm Sandy's destruction
FEMA has now been able to get a working knowledge of just how bad the destruction from Sandy was in the Garden State and they are estimating some 72,000 homes were damaged by the storm.
While the numbers are expected to go higher in the coming weeks here is what FEMA says:
An analysis of aerial imagery by the Federal Emergency Management Agency shows more than 500 buildings were destroyed outright, reduced to piles of debris, caved in or sliced into chunks.
An additional 5,000 structures suffered major damage from flooding or high winds, and some 24,000 were seen with minor damage. Floodwaters settled in tens of thousands of others, according to the federal agency’s preliminary damage assessments.
That is going to take a lot of time, patience, money and goodwill to get New Jersey back to where it can feel whole again. Johnny has been most impressed by the steely resolve shown by New Jersey residents. Bad, very bad things happened and yet planning is already taking place and rebuilding has begun. At the risk of sounding condescending, Johnny thinks the difference between the Sandy storm and Katrina has been the immediate bounce-back attitude shown by our local communities. Yes, better local leadership plays a role as do a President ready to act and a Governor ready to work across party lines. The residents took it from there. Here the volunteers outnumbered the looters a thousand to one.
Johnny can't wait to walk on rebuilt boardwalks all up and down the shore. No, these boardwalks were not part of his childhood or a part of growing up like so many reading this. They will however represent a lot of all that is good in his adulthood. Walking on them will now become a seminal part of his Garden State life.
The people here were anything but the clowns shown on TeeVee shows.
Without trying to minimize the hurt being felt by those among the 72,000, our Governor put in an uplifting performance on SNL last night:
While the numbers are expected to go higher in the coming weeks here is what FEMA says:
An analysis of aerial imagery by the Federal Emergency Management Agency shows more than 500 buildings were destroyed outright, reduced to piles of debris, caved in or sliced into chunks.
An additional 5,000 structures suffered major damage from flooding or high winds, and some 24,000 were seen with minor damage. Floodwaters settled in tens of thousands of others, according to the federal agency’s preliminary damage assessments.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE BUZZCOCKS!
A little snarling guitar from the punk inspired members of the "Manchester Mafia." Pete Shelley and The Buzzcocks kicking off the music series this week with 'Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)?'
Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with RILO KILEY!
It's just too often we hear of former child actors on the wrong side of the law. They are running down prostitutes in cars, taking the drugs, and assaulting wallabies. Not the case with Rilo Kiley. Former child stars Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett started the band in the late 90's in Los Angeles and we quite like their music. Rilo Kiley tonight with 'Under the Blacklight'.
Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE KNACK!
No not 'My Sharona' (who is actually a real gal BTW). No, tonight we're going a little deeper into the catalog for this one. A real pop treat, from 1979, The Knack with 'Your Number or Your Name'.
Before anyone runs out and buys cases of Twinkies
You might wanna read what Johnny's gonna lay on you. Hostess has filed for bankruptcy (again) and due to poor management on both sides of the filings has now decided to liquidate. This is causing a lot of Twinkie-angst among the citizenry. Well before you go buy a few cases for old times sake do know this -- the creme filling inside every Twinkie? Yeah, that's deep fried animal fat.
So go stock up on fruit pies instead. It's a "healthier" choice.

Toy drive this Saturday in Jersey City for kids -- BE THERE!
A handful of celebrities and Giants football players will be at Sneaker Room on Central Avenue this Saturday (and since this Saturday is small business Saturday these are the kinds of stores to shop at as well) from 10am to 8pm to help collect "toys, board games and stuffed animals that will be distributed at shelters in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and New Jersey to kids in need."
Celebrities who will be stopping by throughout the day include New York Giants Victor Cruz and Justin Tuck, hip hop legend Jadakiss, producer and MC Jim Jones of the Diplomats, TV and radio personality DJ Envy of HOT 97, and DJ Clue, according to a press release.
A lot of these kids had to leave their houses fast fast fast and didn't have time to bring toys or anything to play with to their shelters. This toy drive will help alleviate that. We're going to give the famous Jersey City Desk last word to Sneaker Room owner Suraj Kaufman:
"Shelters can be a scary place. We're doing the toy drive to try to give kids in shelters some kind of normalcy. We're giving back."

All politics aside, let's get behind New York Senator Chuck Schumer on this one folks
Was Superstorm Sandy a hurricane or a post-tropical storm? The difference on your checkbook could be immense. If Sandy is classified as a post-tropical storm, which the NOAA has said it was when it barreled into New Jersey, homeowners insurance coverage would nick them for about $1000 with the insurance companies picking up the rest.
Here's where the insurance companies play their usual sleazy role. If perchance Sandy is classified as a hurricane when it hit land, there is a deductible that can be approximately $20,000. Guess what insurance companies are ACTIVELY LOBBYING the NOAA to classify Sandy as? That's right, more than likely the money you paid into an insurance company is being used right now to lobby against your interests. Insurance companies are actually asking the NOAA to deny science for their bottom lines. Amazing isn't it? We said it was amazing, not surprising. Senator Schumer is fighting back against any reclassification. Said Schumer: “The reason you have insurance is that they’ll stand by you when you have got in real trouble and we all know how many people have. If the insurance company tries to say ‘oh, it was a hurricane and you’ve got to pay the first $20,000 or so,’ fight back or call the state insurance department or any of your local officials.”

Record wave height recorded during Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy
The highest wave height ever recorded in the western Atlantic Ocean since records began being kept in 1975 was recorded at 8:50pm the night the storm hit. The wave height picked up by New York Harbor buoy #44065 was 32.5 feet. This exceeded the highest wave during Hurricane Irene the year before by some six feet.
Now you know. The big yellow diamond is where buoy #44065 is located.

Dear Saturn Ion owner whose storm damaged car is parked/abandoned near the corner of Second St. and Provost...
You've left your keys in your car. Certainly this is an oversight on your part for a storm damaged car and not a ploy for someone to actually steal your car for the insurance payout. So, you might want to A) Take the keys out of the ignition near the open rolled down window, and B) Close your windows, the car is wet and nasty enough already.
Johnny can smell a confidence game being run a mile away
And he's pretty darned sure he read about one yesterday. Mayor Healy was out with the news his internal polling (not to be released, only for their eyes, but you sure can hear about it) shows them with an incredible 14 point lead over Jersey City councilman Steve Fulop who will be challenging the mayor next May.
14 points? Really? In this city? Was this polling done after Hurricane Sandy? After crime runs rampant? After his deputy mayor and others close to him were arrested, found guilty of felonies and sent to the hoosegow? 14 point lead our ass.
Ya know, Johnny just got done telling a lot of friends that Mitt Romney was pulling this. "Hey look at us, we have numbers that say we're WAAAAAY ahead. We're winning by so much why even hold an election? We're so far ahead it's over NOW." Trouble for Romney this obviously wasn't true. It normally never is. It's a ruse, an old confidence game. The Healy campaign EXPECTS all the news media to talk his numbers up. They pass them out and encourage the local media to report it as if it were true and the people to read or see the news think "Wow, now there's a winner, why would I support Steve Fulop OR send him money?" It's a confidence game, especially this far off from the election.
When we se these numbers from an independent polling outfit, we'll write an article saying so, til then...

An important article you the Jersey City resident should read
Augustin Torres, the political insider at the Jersey Journal has some very important information (even if the city isn't giving any) on where Jersey City went wrong in their storm response (which believe it or not continues to this day) and how response times can be vastly improved next time something serious hits our fair city. Also of note and very juicy that maybe, just maybe, Steve Fulop might not be running against Mayor Healy come May. Torres thinks one might just drop out of the running. But you won't get the answer as to whom from Johnny, you'll just have to read it here yourself.
PATH is running from 33rd to Newark today!
Well kids, most of the PATH system has been restored. That being said the bad news is BAD indeed.
First the good news. The PATH is now up and running as of 5am this morning from Newark and Harrison into NYC. The stops along the line will be Newark, Harrison, Journal Square, Grove, Newport, 14th St., 23rd St., and 33rd. St. The trains run from 5am til 10pm though we're not sure why they can't run all the time.
Now the bad news. It may be WEEKS before the Hoboken, Exchange Place and the WTC stops are back online. You read that right, weeks.

Here's a wonderful story of the help New Jersey is getting from all across America
In our hour/months of need up this way and along the Jersey Shore there is a need for almost every kind of help you can imagine. Logistical people, utility workers, extra police, construction workers etc. There is a wonderful story, sure to warm your hearts New Jersey, of workers coming from Texas, Ohio and Michigan. They've come from New Orleans who never forgot that New Jersey State Police were some of the first to come to their aid after Hurricane Katrina.
After a bruising and vicious election that exposed the differences in our nation, reading stories like this help renew your faith in our great land and great people.

Here's the list of the companies being sued by the State of New Jersey for price gouging during Hurricane Sandy
Now, these are allegations. The lawsuits are an accusation. Nothing is proven. Then again these things rarely seem to ever get prosecuted and it is nice the state is taking action against these alleged vampires. Keep a close eye on this case and make double note of the businesses involved. Oh, and we're not buying a no contest plea where someone agrees to pay X amount of penalty with no admission of guilt. Maybe legally perhaps but we here in the real world know what a plea like that means.
The companies are Kistruga Inc. in Paterson; C.S. George and Sons in Clifton; Alen Service Corp. in Newark; Vinny Fuel Corporation in Bloomfield; Perth Amboy NJPO; S&D LLC in Lyndhurst; Couto and Sons in Newark; and Ratana Hospitality Group (Howard Johnson) in Parsippany.
Here are the seven gas stations and one hotel accused of price gouging, along with the alleged markup amount:
• Lukoil - 253 McBride Ave., Paterson (59 percent)
• George's Gulf - 387 Crocks Ave., Clifton (34 percent)
• Lukoil - 335 McCarter Highway, Newark (31 percent)

• Sunoco - 69 Wilson Ave., Newark (17 percent)

You can't beat free and that's just what NJ owned commuter ferries hitting Jersey City and Weehawken are
Free ferry service, the best kind short of a ferry with a cash bar, will begin running from Liberty State Park in Jersey City to lower Manhattan and from Weehawken headed to Pier 79 at West 39th St. in midtown. Thank you state of New Jersey. What a great area to live in. You can show up, get a free ferry ride to New York City, drink a cup of Good Morning America after baiting your hook and fishing your way across the Hudson. Bully!
The ferries will operate weekdays between 6 and 10 a.m. for riders headed into New York, and from 4 to 8 p.m. for riders headed back across the Hudson River.

NYC is doing the "Gas Ration Rumba" as of 6am tomorrow
Mayor Bloomberg leading the band on this classic; as of 6am tomorrow if your car's license plate ends in an odd number you'll never guess when you can gas up. Go ahead, just try. Odd numbered days is correct. Double down on this one; If your plate ends in an even number which days might you be allowed to buy gas? See, you're getting good at this. OK, for the big money and no whammies; If your plate ends in a letter you fill up on...? 30 seconds.......20 seconds......hint: even or odd.....10 seconds....Your answer? Read the Tweets and see if you're a big winner.
To help cut down gas lines I am issuing an order to alternate the days that drivers can purchase fuel in NYC #SandyNYC #Recovery
Effective at 6 am 11/9: drivers in NYC whose license plates end in an odd number will be able to buy gas only on odd-numbered days
Effective 6 am 11/9: drivers in NYC whose license plates end in an even number or zero will be able to buy gas only on even-numbered days
Drivers in NYC whose license plates end with a letter will be classified as “odd” and may only buy gas on odd-numbered days
Commercial vehicles, emergency vehicles, buses and paratransit vehicles, MD plates & vehicles licensed by the TLC are exempt
NYPD officers will be deployed at gas stations, but we expect that NYers will respect the rule and work together to ensure compliance
This is not a step we take lightly. But given gas shortages and the growing frustrations of NYers, we believe it’s the right step.
For a complete summary of NYC’s new odd-even plate system for gasoline purchases click here: http://bit.ly/PHpq2s #SandyNYC #Recovery
Also a note from Johnny: Johnny has relaxed the regulations on giving drivers with New York plates gassing up in New Jersey wedgies.

A handy dandy guide to help you find your polling place
Now, if you were in New York, per Governor Andrew Cuomo you could pretty much walk into a Dunkin' Donuts or a Starbucks and cast your ballot today because of the storm. We even heard the guys selling fake designer crap in Herald Square were a polling place. Here in New Jersey, while Governor Christie has tried to make voting easier because of Hurricane Sandy, still has rules. So voters here is a handy guide thanks to the League of Women Voters and Vote 411 to help you find where you can cast your ballot today.
Get out there and make your voice heard, don't let billionaires with more money than decency buy thousands of ads to turn you off of voting. Don't let the Super PACs win. They have no vote today, you do.

A couple storm pictures we wanted to share with our readers
Since the posting function on NJ.com seems a bit wonky we'll post them here. These two pictures were shot by Johnny himself out walking around town after the storm. These are truly fascinating because of the way the electricity from the downed line fused everything around it and actually burned about 6 inches into the street after power came back on (It had been seen hanging on on the ground the day before power to this neighborhood was restored, obviously when power came back on this became a live wire).
Did everyone sleep through the earthquake last night?
It would appear northern New Jersey was hit by a 2.0 earthquake after 1am:
The temblor, with a magnitude of 2.0, struck at 1:19 a.m. and was centered in Ringwood, a community that's still dealing with downed trees and power outages from Sandy.
Anyone feel it? Did it start a killer tsunami headed straight for England?
Oh, and "Cut it out, Ringwood!"

Since the Port Authority won't give helpful or meaningful updates on the PATH
It's a good thing Governor Christie will. While visiting Hoboken yesterday Christie was asked about PATH and said the water has been cleared out of the tunnels and Port Authority workers are in the process of checking signals and power along the line. He's hoping for late in the week, after the next storm to roll though mid-week.
While we're on the topic, there is no excuse for the silence and news blackout The Port Authority has put in place over PATH. It really has been a huge informational failure on their part. Everyone else is giving daily briefings. Get it together boys and girls.

Giants football Gameday!
The Steelers are flying in today for the game as the hotel they were staying at here in Jersey City had no power and NYC had none available. Certainly an odd gameday routine for Pittsburgh but then again, oh well. Johnny's gonna have a football watching houseful today for Giants fans who have no power. Anything to be a good neighbor and all.
Quickly, we see the Giants winning this game. They are playing well and playing consistently well in the three phases of the game. The Stoolers are no pushover, this will be a slog, but in the end Big Blue fans head home happy.
Fearless Forecast:
NJ Giants 27
Pittsburgh 20

When dear old Alabama A&M scored a matching TD it was Chance Wilson who cooly kicked the PAT and the party was on. Chance Wilson may now loot and pillage for 24 hours.

Fire at Jersey City Hall this morning
Jennifer Weiss at the Jersey City Independent is reporting that the bevy sirens you heard shortly after 9 am were headed to Jersey City Hall where a small fire in the basement. She writes that Mayor Jerramiah Healy, who was outside talking to firefighters, suggested it might be an electrical fire. Arson investigators are also on the scene.
Gas rationing is now the new rule here in New Jersey......for now
And the way it is being done is pretty simple to use. If you have a license plate ending with an EVEN number you can gas up on EVEN numbered days. If you have an ODD number at the end of your license plate you may fill up on ODD numbered days.
But Johnny, I'm confused, my license plate ends in a 0. Well then citizen, while 0 times any other number equals 0, you fill up on EVEN numbered days.
But Johnny, I have a personalized plate, mine reads "JRSYSHR" so what do I do? You friend are to fill up on ODD numbered days (That's not a commentary on your choice of vanity plates).
But Johnny, I just walked up to the station with a couple gas cans to try and run my generator because it's getting nippy out there. When can I fill up? Well if you are a walk-up customer you don't have ANY restrictions. You can simply walk up any time and fill up.
This is an executive order from Governor Christie and you might want to follow orders folks, crossing the Guv would most likely be a very bad idea about now.
The order goes into effect at noon today for 12 counties (Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Monmouth, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren).

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE CLASH!
Blast this one. The Clash with the anthemic 'I'm Not Down'. It's not just the first song tonight, it's an attitude. It's a battle cry people.
I've been beat up, I've been thrown Out
But I'm not down, No I'm not down
I've been shown up, but I've grown up
And I'm not down, No I'm not down
So I have lived, that kind of day
When none of your sorrows will go away
Go down and down and hit the floor
Down and down and down some more
Depression
But I know, there'll be some way
When I can swing everything back my way
Like skyscrapers, rising up
Floor by floor, I'm not giving up
That.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE DOORS!
Nothing to do with everything that has gone on this week. Yes hearing this on an iPod during the power outage while the storm roiled had nothing to do with getting 'Strange Days' by The Doors picked off the song vine.
Friday Night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MISSY ELLIOT!
Missy Elliot with 'The Rain' wrapping up the music series for another week.

The ferries are up and running almost 12 hours a day and using bigger boats
While everyone awaits word on our beloved PATH system another option into and out of New York City is up and running. JC List noted the NY Waterway ferries have a new schedule out and word in the ether is that trips are $8 one way.
Shame on Mayor Bloomberg for insisting the NY Marathon go on as planned -- UPDATED
It starts in Staten Island. Devastated Staten Island, where near as we can tell Mayor Bloomberg hasn't even been to yet. They are still pulling bodies from homes near the start of the race and you want to run it? Disgraceful, or as the New York Post said "An abuse of power." People on SI have nothing. Nothing, there are thousands of new homeless people and many dead yet to be discovered. So let's kick people out of hotels who have nothing for runners. Let's move police around to protect the runners and not work corners in Staten Island. Bloomie was just on television saying NO police or emergency responders would be taken off the job. Horseshit. If you have EXTRA cops or EMS people working the marathon you should send those PUBLIC EMPLOYEES to work on SI, not the race. So YES, they WILL be taken away from the rescue effort.
Here's another thing angering Johnny, read this and we'll get back to it below:
The New York Road Runners, which organizes the marathon, said the event will bring $340 million to the city. The club also announced on Thursday that it will donate at least $1 million, or $26.20 for each of the more than 40,000 runners expected to participate, to aid New Yorkers affected by Sandy.
The Rudin Family, one of the founding members of the marathon, said it would donate $1.1 million and the ING Foundation said it would give $500,000.
WHY is your large donation CONTINGENT on whether or not your precious road race is run? If you want to help, truly help devastated Americans JUST GIVE THE MONEY WITHOUT STRINGS!! How gauche to put strings on it.
Running this race (which could easily be rescheduled til a week or two from now -- TOO BAD for those already here from all over the globe. We're dealing with some serious shit right now and simply can't cater to your desire to run 26.2 miles through our devastation. Try to 2013 NYC Marathon, we'll all be better by then.
There are those in Staten Island threatening to disrupt the race and for once, we really understand why they would and in some cases SHOULD. Take notice Mayor, when people who have nothing left to lose take up a cause, YOU have a problem.
UPDATE -- As you have no doubt heard the marathon has been canceled on Sunday. It was really only the decent call. Mayor Bloomberg mentioned it was not drawing resources away from the cleanup. The news helicopters showing dozens of generators being used to run a VIP runner tent in Central Park to feed the runners a high carb pasta dinner and at other various points along the route told a different story. As did police setting up barricades. As did a late call for retired NYPD officers work the marathon. It was pointed out one of those generators can power 400 homes. You do the math. We know people trained hard. Johnny could never hope to run a marathon on his best day. These are all special athletes. This one time, we have more important things to task ourselves with. This isn't like 9/11 at all where things were much more confined. And Mr. Bloomberg, stop mentioning this being about business and sponsors and million dollar deals. Again, this one time all that can wait. Of course there is an economy to get running but people need a few days to know they are the sole focus. The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade will be the finest in the world and show off everyone the NYC can-do-spirit. Everyone will have power and people will have warm places to sleep not exposed to nature. New Year's Eve will be even bigger. And Donald Trump's hair will be wintering in Florida.

Johnny has a houseful tonight helping friends who have no power, still. We'll get the blog back up and running tomorrow when we can. One question that did come up Mr. Mayor was are you doing what Cory Booker in Newark is doing? Are you being that hands on and engaged? Jersey City residents say no. The response from the entire administration AND city council is being criticized by those who have nothing. The people know you can't turn the power back on but you can lead better than simply setting up a curfew.

Never before have we seen Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi performing at the same event
But Friday night in a benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Sandy the two New Jersey icons will perform. The special will air Friday at 8 pm on NBC, NBC.com, USA Network, SyFy, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, E!, Style Network, G4 and more. It will also be live-streamed on NBC.com. The show is in association with the American Red Cross and Billy Joel, Christina Aguilera, and Sting will also perform.
Here's hoping a few more performers will lend their names to this show and help get the help to where we need it most. To donate, visit RedCross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
