You can almost hear the rigor mortis settling in over the Jersey City runoff elections. Cries of "I give up," and "Don't vote for me," are echoing all over town, except the Downtown area where geese poop golden eggs. Some of the candidates on the Healy ticket would make Lou Brown in the movie Major League seem excited when offered the Indians managing job:
Yep, according to the Jersey Journal, Gerald Meyers, Omar Perez and quite possibly Peter Brennan have decided to simply walk away from their runoff races rather than campaign in an uphill battle and try and raise funds that could be hard to come by. Oddly, Meyers said he worried that if he were elected he'd miss out on family time. Well, why didn't you think of that before you ran?
Does anyone else think the way people get elected here kind of leads to the political machines that everyone complains about? One machine gets broken down and voted out and the new machine takes power. Lather, rinse, repeat.
