Dear business owners, property owners, construction companies who have bought a property, parking lot owners, and anyone else with a sidewalk. It's YOUR responsibility to clean that mess up. Stop acting like its not. Business after business without a clean walk, construction companies actually making sidewalks worse, this city is a wreck. We've heard nothing from the city on this. At least Healy's folks would try to shame people into cleaning their walks.
Johnny's neighbors last night came up with some wonderful revenge ideas for property, construction and business owners who don't clean their walks. Some suggested online whisper campaigns about business cleanliness which is devilish and a good hammer to make them comply. Property owners might wanna clean their walks because some of THOSE ideas went beyond devilish.
The citizens are fed up and those responsible can clear the way or deal with the citizen initiated blowback.
Just a thought….businesses have 4 hours from sunrise to clear sidewalks after an overnight storm. Residents have 8 hours. Would be nice if folks could get it done sooner, but let's try to keep in mind that some people have to come in from a distance to clear the walks -- they don't live at the property.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it's a pain when a business clears a walk only to have motorists clear their cars by throwing the snow onto the cleared sidewalks. A business can't be standing there 24 hours a day to re-clear the snow. We all need to follow the rules.
Business owners of Jersey City should be ashamed of themselves for the state of the sidewalks. By far the best offenders on 2.14 were the businesses who had been open since 11am but at 3pm STILL had ice packed on the sidewalks in front of their stores.
ReplyDeleteShame on all of you!
RebDeb, I know some come from a distance to clean up. My biggest complaints are the one who don't ever shovel, the best they do is throw down a fistful of salt or sand. I truly think some of them think themselves that if enough people just keep walking on the snow and ice it goes away. Ice dams build up so that no amount of salt is going to help. Also business owners may need a refresher that salt only works at 18ยบ and above.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on motorists clearing snow, your shovelfuls go back into the street, NOT onto the sidewalks. That's a fair point.
It's not JUST business owners, oh no. Construction companies who BUY a property to build something need to understand they also bought ownership of the surrounding sidewalks. Construction companies have been piss poor on this.
And Hey, RebDeb, if you've been doing a good job keeping up on the snow and wanna throw a plug for your company in comments go for it!
