Are you looking for a new or trusty used car or truck? Do not now, nor EVER go buy your car along Route 22. If you haven't heard a great portion of those dealerships, aka "stealerships" have been found to, among other things:
State consumer affairs officials said they logged numerous complaints against the dealerships, including failing to honor negotiated or advertised prices for vehicles and charging customers for supplemental warranties or other "after-sale" items without their consent.
Customers also alleged that the dealerships failed to refund deposits for canceled or aborted sales and advertised cars without providing vehicle identification numbers, preventing them from checking their history of damage and use, authorities said.
Those dealerships you'll want to avoid by name are:
Route 22 Toyota, Route 22 Honda, Route 22 Nissan and Route 22 Kia, all in Hillside; Hackettstown Honda; Hudson Honda in West New York; and Freehold Hyundai and Freehold Chrysler Jeep.
Of course the spokesmodel for the owners say they have done nothing wrong and are merely paying these made up fines of 1.8 MILLION dollars to avoid litigation. Mmmm hmmmmm. We tend not to agree with this statement since some these very same "stealership" owners paid close to a half million dollars in 1999 resulting from similar customer complaints.
Do your research. Do not ever just show up to a dealership and want to buy. Here is a fantastic article for those looking to buy a car on what kinds of shady tactics one can find in dealerships yet today from Edmunds, a leading automotive information and buying website. It's called "Confessions of a Car Salesman" and it's required reading before car shopping.
