So Jersey City, what are YOU going to do with your leap second tonight?

That's right, because of the spin/rotation of the Earth to keep things copacetic on the whole atomic clock we'll need to add ONE second tonight at midnight, or technically one second before midnight but it'll still officially BE midnight and Wednesday, or will it? Ah hell, enjoy your extra second and please tell us how you'll be spending it. Johnny might light a bottle rocket so listen for that at midnight.

Time for Jersey City, After Dark

Does anyone now think Mayor Fulop has any kind of grasp on the JCPD?

Early Father's Day there was a shooting at Mercer Park (and pay attention this gets confusing) which is technically located in Bayonne but right across the street is Jersey City where most of those who use the park come from. The park was hosting an annual block party for Jersey City residents at the time of the shootings. Jersey City PD were the first to respond. Two 15 year-old boys were shot during the melee.

This is what nobody disagrees with.

Then as Terrence T. McDonald tells us, then things get weird. The cities of Bayonne and Jersey City both spent time saying it was the others' job to investigate. Details of the shooting have been withheld far longer than the usual crime info. In fact McDonald was told by Steve Fulop's spokesperson Jennifer Morrill (more on her in a bit) he'd need to file a freedom of information filing to get any info about this particular shooting. We're guessing it's because of one of several reasons, and it could be a bit of all of them; secrecy, further political ambitions, embarrassment at how it was handled etc,. Despite what Mayor Fulop says shootings and crime to any Jersey City resident with eyes and ears is trending badly. Fulop likes to point to graphs and charts to show crime has dipped in this metric or that park area, but that have little to do with real-world policing and keeping citizens safe. Whatever helps him sleep at night. Which brings us to the woman who was FIRED for giving updates on Jersey City police actions as was her JOB. Carly Baldwin gave an update since the JCPD were first on the scene but Mayor Fulop said she should have deferred on any statement to Bayonne PD. See what he's doing there? Firing someone who won't cower to his wants AND he tries to push this off on Bayonne so as not to scuff his gubernatorial cred (of which he has none but that's for another post). Yes, Carly Baldwin was fired for doing her job.

Oh we're not done, the utter confusion of what goes on with the JCPD and Fulop's lack of knowledge of it was never on better display than when Jennifer Morrill had to step up and answer FOR a stumbling Fulop:

Though the article you'll read has been updated it had a section that read as follows:

On Tuesday, at an event at Liberty State Park, The Jersey Journal asked Shea and Fulop why Baldwin hadn't been responding to inquiries about police or fire incidents as usual. Morrill stepped in to say Baldwin "is off right now."

Morrill stepped in to say. Isn't that great Jersey City? Our mayor is asked a hard question and he needs Jennifer Morrill to jump in and shield him from the press. Remember, Steve Fulop does NOT want to talk to you or answer your questions. he only wants to show up and restaurant opening and talk with the Wall Street Journal editorial board. Morrill you'll also note didn't answer the question honestly. She knew buy then Baldwin had been let go. Nothing like expediency eh Ms. Morrill?

So Mayor Fulop, or more than likely Jennifer Morrill, what did Steve Fulop know about the JCPD sergeant's DUI in Robbinsville and did the mayor help cover it up or in any way make it go away?

Either way Mayor Fulop has been shown to be in FAR over his head when it come to crime and the oversight of the good men and women in the JCPD. Click on this link to see the Jersey Journal's scathing front page today over Fulop's mishandling of this situation.

Johnny almost wrote about tomorrow's topic twice today but it kept snowballing. Friends, from many angles and many writers Steve Fulop's JCPD and PR messes are coming to a head not just here but with the Jersey Journal as well. Make sure to come back tomorrow and you'll be stunned at how city hall is being run.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS!

Johnny could go on and on telling you roaring cats and kittens old Motown stories about how the guy who first kind of ran Motown, Smokey Robinson fancied Martha Reeves as the "face and voice" of Motown if you will for her more gospel sounding voice. Along came Berry Gordy to run things and who of course had a thing for Diana Ross -- well you'd rather just hear Martha Reeves & the Vandellas sing a perfect song for tonight, 'Dancing in the Streets' to kick off this week's Music Series we're sure.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXRTRAVAGANZA with BOB MARLEY!

The tapping on the bottle in the background puts the hook in Johnny every time he hears it. 'Jammin', a great classic from Bob Marley. You can't go wrong with reggae on a Friday night.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with QUEEN!

Look, we had to have at least one openly gay artist in the Music Series tonight. So many conservatives seem to misunderstand the ruling and that they themselves are not now suddenly "gay married."

Freddie Mercury and Queen and 'Killer Queen'

While we're on the topic of disappointing city officials...

...Khemraj "Chico" Ramchal must go as a City Councilman.

Many of you know, as it has been brought up a few times here, Johnny was the victim of a drunk driver at age 17. Run down from behind on a bike by a drunk. He does not suffer DUI drivers easily. The fact Mr. Ramchal is currently going through the court system for his own DUI accident (with a taxpayer funded vehicle) is NOT why Johnny thinks Mr. Ramchal should step away from his city council job. Johnny understands we all do make mistakes, however distasteful the acts (sans murder, rape etc) and people should have a chance to make amends and still be active in the community as long as they learn from their offenses. Councilman Ramchal will have his days in court and we hope he gets no special favors but again, this is not why Johnny thinks he needs to go.

A couple days ago we found out Ramchal was fired from his alleged NO-SHOW job. NO-SHOW. You're a city counsellor in the second largest city in New Jersey and you're sitting on council getting paid $49,923 to not work at your other job. That is beyond the pale for a city employee. You vote on contracts, you vote on city business dealings all while, let's call it what it is, stealing from taxpayers. That's just no good. You are part of the problem, a sleazy problem at that for no-show work. it would seem according to this story from our good friend Terrence T. McDonald you also LIED on your city time sheets:

The HCIA began its investigation of Ramchal on April 8, after The Jersey Journal made inquiries into why GPS records from the car the councilman had been driving showed him driving around Jersey City when the timesheets Ramchal submitted to the HCIA indicated he was working. Ramchal had been suspended with pay as the agency investigated the newspaper's claims.

Yeah, you gotta go councilman. We also understand you have a lot of support in your ward and a lot of those people want you to stay. That'd be fine if you only voted on Ward B business but you don't do you? No, you vote on ALL city business and Johnny simply does not want someone this dishonest voting on issues that affect HIS ward.

The DUI Mr. Ramchal is a personal failing, the no-show job and faked timesheets are another matter that show your contempt for Jersey City taxpayers and residents and for that you need to step down or be recalled.

The Fulop Flip-Flop

Pull up a chair boys and girls, this story is juicy, it's long, and it will show you that when Mayor Steve Fulop shows up for the ribbon cutting at 110 First St. Thursday morning will complete his descent into just another all about himself say anything politician.

To understand how utterly distasteful it will be Thursday morning when the Jersey City Mayor shows up to gladhand building owner Lloyd Goldman, BLDG and "The One" employees, (and we told you he'd sink to this) you have to know the whole story. An arts building used to stand on the property at 110 First St., The Art House. Artists would, as artists do, sleep there and make it an art community. Some 50-60 used the art space. This never sat well with Goldman who wanted the building at 111 First St. gone. The city under Mayor Healy sued Goldman. There are rumors online and still persist downtown Goldman sent goons to light fires to destroy the integrity of the building to get it condemned. Meanwhile the city actually stood up for the residents in PADNA and sued Goldman and won. Again and again the city won. Goldman would countersue and all the while the Jersey City fire department would be levying tens of millions of dollars in fines against Goldman. At some point an agreement was reached, with the help of convicted felon and then Jersey City Council President Mariano Vega, that forced the city to drop lawsuits and allow the Art House to be torn down and built over. Keep the idea in mind about the rumors of starting fires as you read later. Goldman agreed to 25 affordable units that once agreed upon told the city they didn't want poors living anywhere near them. So much so in fact Goldman's BLDG decided to pay into the city's Affordable Housing Trust Fund to keep them away.

Wanna know who supported the city's positions, the residents of his ward and fought against Goldman's shady dealings? Councilman Steve Fulop. We'd like to share with you, before Mayor Fulop shows up tomorrow and overlooks the destroyed city park right behind him that BLDG and 110 First St. contractors destroyed, without permission, in March (Remember now about the rumors of setting fires and in general destroying things to circumvent laws and rules to get what they want when it comes to that city park next to their property) and his thoughts about all things 110 First St.:

At least one council member still objects. Ward E Councilman Steve Fulop said the agreement is “not a good deal,” and noted that city Tax Collector Maureen Cosgrove voted against it at the July 13 meeting of the city Tax Abatement Committee, which approved the new agreement with Goldman by a 5-1 vote. “This thing is flawed on many front,” Fulop said at this morning’s council caucus. “This is a bad deal.” Jersey Journal

The deal needs approval from the City Council, and Steven Fulop, the councilman for that area, is strongly opposed to renegotiating the affordable housing component, which he said is the sole concession the city got from Mr. Goldman in 2006. "The most important thing for me is that the city over the last nine years has shown no backbone," Mr. Fulop said. "It's created stagnation in that Powerhouse Arts District." Wall Street Journal

“I didn’t vote for the initial [amendment] as I thought that was a bad deal,” said Fulop, who said he would “absolutely not” vote for it this time around, either. Jersey City Independent

Added Fulop, “This may appear wise today, but in the long term it’s going to be detrimental to the city.” Jersey City Independent

There are more but you get the idea. Steve Fulop was all about taking MORAL stands against Goldman trying to keep affordable units, stands against bad tax deals being passed onto taxpayers, and voting against Vega's not enforcing the JCFD imposed fines. He stood on his moral rock and time and time and time again came out against the plans for the existence of a 38 story building 110 First St. and how they were implemented.

Tomorrow he'll be giving that aforementioned gladhand to public enemy #1 in PADNA and parade around with him and act like best friends. Why? Why would someone do that? Just because he's mayor now or because he might want something from BLDG and Goldman in the future such as an endorsement for governor or money for his campaign. It's sad we have to ask that question. Why turn your back on something you were so set against Mr. Mayor? Johnny personally would have skipped this event (and yeah he's dropped paying clients for being dicks later on but that's just Johnny, he has morals). Can "The One" even get a certificate of occupancy? Last we heard Councilwoman Candice Osborne was holding that up until Goldman/BLDG/The One makes good on repairing the city park they set on fire destroyed.

So enjoy your speech about the booming downtown and how you're all about it but just remember Mr. Mayor, the building you're cutting the ribbon on was a Mayor Healy joint. 90% of the construction you'll point to going up downtown was approved and started under Mayor Healy.

Remember, you were fighting things like 110 First. St. back then. Not so much now, huh?

The boycott of 110 First St. by those who support the arts, love downtown, are sick of the city going to the highest bidders continues...

Johnny is really having a difficult time processing the murders in Charleston

So instead of going into another scolding rant he's gonna leave one thought and some nice pictures of a great city. Best wishes to everyone affected.

This kid it's turning out had a fascination with all things racist. White supremacy and the like. The picture of him in the jacket in front of the bare trees in the swamp, those patches on his jacket are the flags of South Africa and Rhodesia when they were apartheid states. Luckily his daddy got him a .45 caliber gun for his birthday.

This kid no doubt thought all of the racist and right wing goobers would be singing his praises today. He thought he'd be elevated and held up as a right-wing white power god. Oh dear, everyone, and Johnny means just about everyone hates you. That's what'll be hardest for this asshat to digest. Same thing for John Wilkes Booth. He thought he'd be a hero. He thought the whole southern cause would again rise up behind him. Know where he found out everyone hated his guts even the south? In a swamp in Virginia. He made David Herrold, one of his co-conspirators to go get some newspapers so he could read about himself. Somebody give this kid a look at Twitter right now so he too can have his John Wilkes Booth moment.

Failing grades for Mayor Fulop on communications and crime -- UPDATED!

Disappointment, thy name is Steve Fulop, Mayor of Jersey City.

First, and this is an issue we've had to bring up before and trust us, we don't like to bag on Jersey City, we don't. We'd love to be positive and uplifting each and every day. Today we just can't. Despite what the mayor says, hiding in another one-way discussion on Facebook, crime is bad in our city. You can use any metric you want to Mr. Mayor to say it's "trending down" which tells us it's still far too fucking high. You made promises as a candidate to approach crime differently. What we've seen thus far is you appointing a police chief, getting rid of him, fighting him in court and, quite possibly, according to court documents you covered for a Jersey City cop's DUI to get the police union behind you again and basically made a hash of the JCPD. It's a mess. Johnny talks to cops on the street, he hears things. Let's just say, things are not good from the top down in the JCPD. It starts at the top with the guy more interested in pulling strings like a marionette rather than fully going after crime. When one is running for governor without saying so these kinds of "How will this look a year or two out on the campaign trail" questionable decisions get made. That is no way to police what will be New Jersey's largest city after the next census. There are at least ten cops downtown standing around construction sites picking their noses and sleeping in their cars (Johnny has pics of course or he wouldn't make that claim). Hey, there's an idea. Mayor Fulop promised the police would no longer be handling these lazy, easy stand-around jobs when he took office. He said a citizen group would handle this and get more cops out there, you know, TO FIGHT CRIME. Yeah, you're transforming the police, sure you are. If Johnny was Mayor those ten cops would be in a car patrolling The Heights or Greenville. Why didn't Mayor Healy have these same problems you ask? He wasn't secretly running for governor. As bad as he was he took crime seriously and met with the press when things went wrong. Which brings us to our next point;

Facebook is for cowards. Not for sharing pics of a night out or a day at the lake or some old kids pictures on a Throwback Thursday, it's fine for that. It's NOT fine however to hold one-way discussions with the citizens when people in your city are being shot. First, not everyone is on Facebook. Johnny for one gave it up four years ago. Here's a hint Mayor, hold press conferences, don't just send out Jennifer Morrill to say what you mean. Don't shy away from tough questions. You don't hold press conferences. How many press conferences have you held with someone not named the Wall Street Journal Editorial Board in NYC? We know from the Jersey Journal they have to pull teeth to get any schedule information or any info from your office. You're not communicating with your residents, you're simply not. Using a press mouthpiece and hiding on Facebook are unacceptable. At least for those of us Jersey City residents who expect more it is, just maybe not for all the advisors you've managed to sprinkle into city jobs, performing perfunctory half-measures just to keep them around you for your Drumthwackett run.

School's out for the summer Mr. Fulop and your report card isn't looking too good;
Communication D
Crime D
Marked improvements will be expected going forward. Have a nice summer Steve!

UPDATE 9:57 AM -- As to Johnny's point about the cops unnecessarily standing around construction sites, the JCPD cop smoking cigars in the middle of the street today with Mill Creek workers really drove that point home. Enjoy your smokes officer, it looks so good to see your commitment...to cigars.

Why is The One being boycotted?

They don't care about their neighbors and they have no respect for those who would move in. Workers there drank beer and left the empties lying around (along w pill bottles) and then dug up a city park and destroyed a dog run for fun apparently.

Heineken, must have been payday. The place workers parked 110 First St. was littered some days with beer bottles. Some days there were little vodka bottles too. Do YOU want to rent in a building that might not have had a workers full attention while it went up 38 stories?

And then the destroyed a park

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with WILSON PICKETT!

Would you look at that, it's the midnight hour and here's Wilson Pickett with 'The Midnight Hour', funny how that works out...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with JODY WATLEY!

Funny how the mind works. You can not think about an old friend for decades and suddenly you hear a song and it immediately all comes rushing back. Johnny heard this playing as he passed a local restaurant and it very much reminded him of his old friend Cliff at Eastern Michigan University. Cliff, like Johnny was a deadpan smartass. Cliff and Johnny enjoyed copious amounts of Labatt's, bong hits and NHL playoff hockey in those halcyon days of 1983. Cliff loved to play this record album but especially this song when his girlfriend Janelle (She was known as Janelle with the BIG BOOBS when she wasn't there according to her man, something Johnny always hated) would come over and he'd lord her over Johnny and any other guy there because well yeah, she was a 10.

Johnny, where are you going with this, it's far too normal of a story. Here's where we're going friends, you can only play smug showoff with your girlfriend before Johnny starts to take it as a dare and begins a five month passionate relationship with Janelle and yes this song was indeed played when sinning took place. Screw your Montreal Canadiens anyway Cliff, Johnny's a Wings fan and so was she. These things happen.

It's just nice to hear people tell the truth

Johnny sat in on a PADNA neighborhood meeting last night at the invite of a friend and listened to Toll Brothers discuss the timing and look of the second portion of the three-pronged plan that runs through PADNA from Warren to Morgan to Marin to Bay St. It wasn't as awful as Johnny had imagined. Their new design comes with a public square, much like the one at Grove St. only a touch more high-end. Steps were taken to put in a parking garage so that 80% of their new residents will have off-street parking. Then came the much better design than the 38 story god-awful monstrosity at the corner of Marin and Morgan now. The landscaping looked great and it seemed to have a design that fit the area it's in, not like the current one. Only 28 floors on this one. The reason? Toll used a different architect on the image you'll see below which is the design of the new area (imagine you are on the veranda at 150 Bay St. looking southeast) than the one almost done. The image further down is how the current one is going to look on the backside until phase three starts, maybe in 4 years, maybe. Until then Toll presents, via their first architect, painted Tyvek. When asked about this disappointing design a Toll Brothers VP told the 50 or so PADNA members assembled, "Yeah, I'm not gonna try and defend that."

As Billy Joel so aptly pointed out, "Honesty, is hardly ever heard."

Here's to an unsung hero

Darren "Reese" Talington wasn't looking to be a hero when he stopped into the A-1 Deli at Grove St. and Columbus Ave. on April 26, 2014. He just stopped into a store like we all do. He happened to walk into the store the same time a woman unknown to him came inside to shop. Little did Darren know at least two scumbags would end his life standing up to protect that same unknown woman:

Shortly after, a man who appeared to be drunk entered the store and hit the woman with a beer bottle, the store clerk said. Talington confronted the man and the two stepped outside, according to the store clerk.

After the two began fighting outside, another man approached and shot Talington several times, authorities said. A number of months passed before Sammy K. Mixson, 31, was charged with Talington's murder on Nov. 12, 2014.

Darren did not ask if it was the right thing to do, to protect a woman from a violent male. He acted. He acted like Johnny would (And Johnny has stepped into men hitting on women situations more than once, maybe he's just been lucky). He wasn't going to have it in his town and he did something about it. The very last act of his life he decided to be a forever hero. His memory will be lifted up during this weekend's Darren "Reese" Talington Classic basketball tournament and will begin at 10 a.m. at Bayside Park in Jersey City. Five games are scheduled to be played. The first game is at 10, then they go off at 11, noon etc. There will also be free health screenings.

Hopefully this can become a yearly event as we'd love Mr. Talington's heroic story be told at least once a year and that kids might learn that hitting women has no place in Jersey City and no place anywhere. Mr. Talington stood up for the Jersey CIty he wanted, let's stand for him this weekend.

West New York Mayor Felix Roque has been indicted

If everyone will stop doing their happy dance that this asshat really looks to be in deep shit this time even he can't get out of Johnny will relay what happened. State authorities say that Roque was a bad bad man:

From 2007 to 2012, Roque, 59, a Democrat who runs the Pain Relief Center in the town, agreed to refer patients needing MRI and CT scans to the centers in exchange for cash and campaign contributions, the state Attorney General's Office said.

The owner of Diagnostic Imaging Affiliates, Rehan Zuberi, 46, of Boonton, allegedly delivered the cash to Roque on a monthly basis and made several payments to him at the mayor's office in the town hall. Roque was just re-elected as mayor in May.

You kinda had the feeling that's the only way this alleged crook was gonna go, yes? Law enforcement were going to have to root him out like a bad tooth. We feel good for the people of West New York tonight.

Johnny's feeling the Barcelona tonight. With Mrs. Johnny's blessing (She said wear it) Johnny wore his retro Barca jersey out to dinner tonight and gave the fist bump of victory to a few fellow Blaugrana fans in NYC. In 11 years this club has won the league title 7 times and the Champions League 4 times. A treble is a league title, a Copa Del Ray (all nations have these national cups, in England it's the FA Cup) and a Champions League title. They became the only team to ever win two of those. Today was their 60th game and Neymar finished off their 50th win with this clincher sending Las Rablas into a din.

The experts said the 2011 Barcelona team (With NYCFC's David Villa riding shotgun to Lionel Messi) was the best club team ever. Until tonight. In the Champions League this year FC Barcelona beat the champions of Holland, the champions of England, the Champions of France, the champions of Germany and today they beat the champions of Italy. They didn't draw any other league's second or third best. A dynasty of the highest order. A 25th trophy for the magnificent Xavi.

The red light cameras weren't for the important people...

Just you, Johnny, and every other peasant. You can't make this stuff up. Mayor-to-be Fulop asked the red light cameras in certain areas of Jersey City, where perhaps important donors and other people of note who couldn't get to his grand inauguration by PATH or Light-Rail or by foot might get caught and might get a ticket, turned off that day. Why should they get nicked by those goddamned disgraceful things (which Fulop still has not taken a stand on)? The next day if you got caught in an intersection you got a ticket. If you made a slow right-hand turn you got a ticket.

Here you go, untouchables.

Is Andrea Pirlo coming to NYCFC after Saturday's Champions League Final?

Italian soccer legendary midfielder Andrea Pirlo who plays his club soccer for Juventus may be headed to NYCFC after the Champions League final Saturday in Berlin vs FC Barcelona.

These are Twitter rumors coming out of Italy and picked up by US outlets but something certainly worth watching.

Our first Jersey City promotional video!

The first of what Johnny told the staff should be a long list of videos promoting downtown Jersey City and what you the potential renter or hopefully buyer of real estate can look forward to! Let's take a look but more importantly, a listen:

El Diablos have a new head coach

At noon today the New Jersey Devils will name former AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach John Hynes as head man at the Prudential Center. New Devils GM Ray Shero, who came from Pittsburgh was well acquainted with their top affiliate's head coach and picked him to coach the Devils.

Imagine that, the Devils with a real NHL coaching staff behind the bench and not some "It'd be funny if the results weren't so sad" triumvirate like last year with GM Lou Lamoriello, Adam Oates and Scott Stevens. We hope the new management can rescue the Devils not just so they can be competitive and try and get back in the playoffs and one day win another Stanley Cup for their fans. The real issue is winning now and filling the coffers as no matter how badly Devils fans think it can't happen, they ARE candidates to move if they continue this downward spiral. Don't think so? Where did the Devils come from and why?

There's your answer...
