Rolling Stone worked up a list of the 25 best performances on SNL. It's quite the list and spans the length of the show.

By the way, you'll never guess the #1 clip according to Rolling Stone. The Elvis Costello famously sticking a finger in the eye of Columbia Records by ditching 'Less Than Zero', the expected and demanded by the parent company song, for the anti-corporate anthem 'Radio Radio' checks in at #5.
