Bears win! Bears win!

Yes baseball fans, the Newark Bears took it to the York Revolution today at Bears and Eagles Stadium in downtown Newark 7-2. The Revolution began their top of the first inning with a leadoff home run by Keoni DeRenne. After that, it was all Bears all the time. While the Bears had no home runs of their own, they did show great skill at the plate going the other way with several key hits. Shawn Chacon leveled his record at 1-1 with six strong innings. No doubt the York ballclub will be awakened by the manager tomorrow to get to the yard at 8 am for fielding practice as the Revolution helped out the Bears attack with THREE errors. The Bears took extra bases twice on wild pitches, twice on errors.

On a side note, what ARE you people waiting for to go see the Bears? Attendance, on an picture perfect Saturday afternoon wasn't all that great. Look, gang, the PATH train runs right out to Newark, you go downstairs and grab the light rail and it drops you off right in front of the stadium. It can't get any easier than that. They have a great between innings show, a beautiful field and some seriously affordable baseball. Maybe you prefer the overpriced Yankee and Mets tickets. If you're a true baseball lover, give the Bears a go, it's a good time and you may still have enough left over for dinner out.

  1. Do they ever play the Mud Hens?

I believe there are a couple teams near my neck of the woods. One in Kankakee for sure...

  2. No, they are an independent league. The Atlantic League isn't even listed on minorleaguebaseball.com

Hey, if you're a former Ypsi City Desk regular, that manager I mentioned kicking some butt in the morning would be former EMU standout Chris Hoiles. I did some reading on the team and the league in general and former EMU baseball assistant coach and phenomenal catcher, who also was great for Baltimore in the majors is the top man of the York club. He was a buddy of mine when we both used to live in Best Hall at EMU. We lived a couple doors apart and were friends way back when.

    Small world

Just a little nugget for the old Ypsi crew....
