Anybody got 5,000 old Metro Cards lying around?

If so you too can make furniture, good strong furniture out of them...

Easy like Sunday morning...

The Lens Blog at the NYT from time to time has some don't miss stuff. To that end on Friday they ran a piece on window washing around town. Big buildings, little buildings, and some innovative and enterprising glass cleaners can be found by clicking on the link here.

It's poignant, it's quick and it'll get you outside into the spring weather we're enjoying today.

Just a random shot on a pretty Saturday afternoon

Taking the MTA subway this weekend? Leave time

Hoooo boy the subway is gonna be a mess this weekend as 14 of the 24 lines are being worked on and will have some kind of stoppage/delay/skipped stops this weekend. Work affecting the 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, C, D, F, G, J, Q, and S trains will slow down riders. Of course, Johnny has a leisurely afternoon planned in Gotham so this'll be just ducky.

For the full list you can check the MTA website here.

Good luck.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEW ORDER!

We'll kick off the music series this week with one of those underrated gems in an artist's catalog that sometimes gets lost in the airplay. 'Everything's Gone Green' by New Order is such a song.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND!

Johnny has been really listening closely to this song for the past few days. Yes it's magnificent in and of itself but it does rather mirror a chapter in Johnny's life in studying it.

We're pulling out of here to win...

Bruce and the E Street Band with 'Thunder Road'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SCREAMING JAY HAWKINS!

A little bit of April Tom Foolery as we wrap up the music series this week. Here's Screaming Jay Hawkins with 'You Put a Spell on Me'.

It seems Johnny perfected April Fools Day back in 2008

Johnny was gonna hit you with a big involved April Fools Day joke (To which you'd reply Johnny, isn't this entire website some kind of Fools joke -- and you'd be right) but in checking back to his old Ypsi City Desk days, he perfected the April Fools Day gag back then.

Background for Jersey and Gotham readers, John Norman Collins was a serial killer in the late 1960's in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor Michigan. On April Fools Day 2008 Johnny ran a post saying Collins had escaped from the maximum security lock up in Marquette Michigan. Over time this thread apparently set off some kind of flame war in comments long after Johnny stopped reading them. We mean a firestorm that has somehow led to this:

*If you Google John Norman Collins the Ypsi City Desk post is like 6th on the list (Very flattering).
*At the bottom of said Google search there is now a quick search option for 'John Norman Collins escape'.
*Answers.com actually links to the Ypsi City Desk post and we quote: "He is still running from the authorities. In the link retaled links box below I posted a site with the information. (Again, very flattering)

So, Johnny broke the internets a while back. All hail Johnny!
