Sadly Johnny has to put the Jersey City Desk on a hiatus

Mrs. Johnny passed away yesterday and so obviously he's got more important things to deal with. He will come back around as this blog may well become therapy.

Super Bowl Sunday....Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?

As a nation our worst nightmare has come true. The Philadelphia fanbase vs. the Boston fanbase for a championship. The last two weeks for people in this area have been beyond annoying. Philly fans managing somehow to continue an imagined fight with Vikings fans and ESPN sportswriters actively looking for the manger Tom Brady was born in.

Ya know Bunky there's not only a puppy bowl but also a dog bowl for older pups, all of whom are up for adoption! Um, let's see; old movies, a Game of Thrones marathon, posting vacation pictures to Instaface, horsing around on the computer, or even catching up on Booth and Brennan on Bones on the Hulu come to mind as better alternatives than having to watch this pig slop of a game. Then again so does yelling at traffic, chewing foil and starting food fights at Bill Knapps, so really how you entertain yourselves is up to you.

If however you're looking for a place to crap all over the game, the halftime holograms, the announcers, the First Down Dancers®, and cutaway ads for Sheehan's Rustproofing on Route 440, let the Jersey City Desk be your Super Bowl Sunday oasis.

All hail Sania Naik, winner of the 59th annual Jersey Journal-Hudson County Spelling Bee

Now Johnny was (still is) a very good speller and participated in all of the spelling bees he was eligible for and usually finished in the top ten and once even finished second once but he sure appreciates what winner Sania Naik of Jersey City did and can certainly commiserate with runner-up Adnan Rafi. Adnan, if you ever read this yes, the word you miss is one you'll always remember, Johnny's Waterloo was "license" the year he finished second in the district. After three hours he blew the S and C order. Look at him now though, he has a no count blog so there's always that to look forward to ;)

Again, a Jersey City Desk tip of the cap to Sania Naik who will now get to represent Jersey City and all of New Jersey in the upcoming Scripps National Spelling Bee. We wish her the best of luck!

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with DAVID GRAY!

The patron saint song of the Music Series, "Friday night, I'm going nowhere"

This song is a brilliant tapestry of so many different ideas you find you enjoy from other songs. Mr. David Gray is a very good student of music. Stepping off the Music Series tonight with a really great song, one you should probably hop on over to the iTunes store and buy.

Wake the kids and tell the neighbors, it's 'Babylon'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SOCIAL DISTORTION!

Johnny's an atheist but IF there is a Heaven and he's wrong, this song will be on all the diner tabletop jukeboxes there and those jukeboxes would be FREE.

Mike Ness and the glory that is Social Distortion with 'I Was Wrong'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE TEMPTATIONS!

Sad news tonight for Motown fans, former lead singer of The Temptations, Dennis Edwards has gone to meet the ancestors. Dennis was 68. If you're from Detroit you know Dennis replaced David Ruffin in 1968 on lead vocals and had great success. Here's one of his better songs and the band's bigger hits, 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone' putting the wraps on things tonight.

Jersey City's famed weather prognosticator Jebediah the Wombat saw his shadow

Jebediah the Wombat, far smarter and cooler cousin to Punxsutawney Phil or Staten Island Chuck, and who lives among the stacks and stacks of bricks at Warren and Bay St., confirmed he did see his shadow which traditionally means six more weeks of winter.

Jebediah, as always, was coy in his prediction. "Look, last year I listened to Lonnie and it really went sideways. So this year let's just say it's cold today, and here's hoping this shit pulls out faster than six weeks."

Jebediah the Jersey City wombat, he's just so much cooler than Punxsutawney Phil or Staten Island Chuck, of whom Jebediah had this to say: "I did Chuck's wife."

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

Jersey City's own Khadijah Hamilton has been charged with about the most awful crime you can be, driving under the influence, crashing her car so badly a backseat passenger would die but walked away from the scene anyway. For this insensitive stupidity, Ms. Hamilton is facing charges in the crash resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and causing a death while driving unlicensed. No doubt she walked away from the scene because she was "allegedly" drunk and or high and you needn't look hard for for evidence of that:

A bloody bottle of Hennessy cognac and more than 40 smoked marijuana "blunts" were found in the car of the woman charged with fleeing the scene of a crash that claimed her friend's (Khalla Nguyen) life Saturday.

"She basically treated her car like a bar," Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Lynne Seborowski said at today's detention hearing for Khadijah Hamilton, 27, of Jersey City.

"This defendant was driving around for at least three hours on the streets of Jersey City -- drinking, smoking -- putting multiple people's lives at risk," the prosecutor, said adding that Hamilton and two other occupants of the car shouted for someone to dial 911 but walked away when an ambulance arrived.

Would you dear reader like to hear her first on the record comment on the situation when she called into County Prosecutor's Homicide Unit the next day?

What class. Luckily for us though Jersey City she's out on bail because her Public Safety Assessment number came back low and in the new court system a low PSA number gets you bail because you probably won't reoffend. We wonder if the number system being used can factor driving drunk and then casually walking away from someone dying in the back seat then placing a flippant call to police and as kind of person unlikely to break the law while on bond.

So basically this system would have given her the same score ten minutes before and ten minutes after the fatal wreck. That's some system.
