And of course to all our friends and readers. Labor Day is a lot of things to a lot of people. A celebration of organized labor, a backyard BBQ, a last trip of summer, or just a reflection on all you do to keep things going. To that end Johnny does have a story and a statistic to share. In (New Jersey) the third-wealthiest state in the nation with the seventh-largest economy, more than a third of all households — 1.1 million — are unable to provide the basic necessities of food, housing, transportation, child care and health care.
And here is the rest of this very sobering article on just how hard our friends and neighbors work and it simply isn't enough. Please think about these folks next time you feel like yelling at a service industry employee over the most banal thing. Think about them when you hear someone repeat Mitt Romney's line he likes to fire people. Think about them when someone tells you austerity is the only way forward.
Most of all think about them because they are our fellow Americans.
