The kind of morning Johnny remembers sitting in school back when the earth was in black and white and only wanting to get out of school to play baseball. Whether it be in an organized community or travel league, or just using tennis balls at the neighborhood ballpark. This too got Johnny to thinking as he was almost run down by an overeager cement truck driver (Johnny invited the gentleman down from his seat but the gentleman wisely declined) today, if we have all this goddamned land to throw at greedy promise breaking developers we have enough land for a minor league baseball park.
They have a great field in Newark, Johnny's been to a few ballgames there. What a waste of a gorgeous stadium. If smart people who love baseball or want another jewel in Jersey City's growing crown we can do this. We don't need any more 38 story rental buildings. Please. Seriously. No more. A ballyard is so doable. It doesn't have to be AAA ball, it could be a lower league. Just somewhere Jersey City can come together on a warm summer night and enjoy something together on a big scale. We don't have that. Raise your hands if you've been to a game at the Yanitelli Center or even know what that is. That'd be a very small sampling is our guess. Baseball with a view or baseball in a warehouse area with trains rumbling by would be grand.
Any takers out there ward councilmembers to have a minor league stadium in your neighborhood? Good family fun, a nice place to take the kids, inexpensive fun right here in JC? You know builders would say rabble rabble 10,000 jobs but Johnny's gonna tell the truth and say rabble rabble a couple hundred jobs for a while.
Location? We'll throw it open to you readers, where would you put something that would need the equivalent of say four city blocks? We're guessing downtown is out if for no other reason than sea level. What say you citizens? Would you like a minor league ballpark? Where might we put it?
Things to ponder on a windy Spring morning.

The Mets are badly in need of a AAA affiliate in close proximity to NYC.
I thought that too, and one could take a ferry service from Queens to see the kids play or a train. JC residents can just hopefully hop off a light rail or PATH stop to see them. The Mets do make the most sense.
