Do you like ribs Joey? How about movies about gladiators?
Gothamist went looking for the 11 best rib dishes across NYC, not necessarily BBQ mind you but some really delicious sounding and looking dishes are what they found. In a perfect world Johnny would have the time to try them all so if you have already had some of these ribs do feel free t share in comments.

Gothamist took a good look at the food and drink scene in Jersey City...
...just don't read the comments if you're from Jersey City.
Yes, a very nice and rather full look at the food and drink scene in Cool City (You could have included Bucket and Bay) with some nice write-ups. Many here will already be familiar with the restaurants and bars and coffeehouses as we regularly discuss them here. It's a good look at how someone else views our restaurants.
Now, as for the comments they seem to come from bitter, entitled hipsters who think it simply can't be any good if it's across the Hudson River. Yes, that is actually their 'argument' in many cases. One of the commenters resorted to what they thought was a clever 'Stop trying to make Jersey City happen' pre-made meme generator which should tell you all you need to know about the bitter shits who comment on Gothamist on all things NJ. They're deep thinkers who, when they see something not named NYC immediately fall back into 9th grade bunker mode. That's fine, as the old adage goes more for us. We will however leave a closing comment to those across the way who live with this anti-anything not NYC attitude:

We could bore you to tears going on about frequency modulation and the 50th Anniversary of the Master FM Antenna
But we're going to let someone else do that.
What Johnny is going to do is tell you there will be an FM themed light show on the Empire State Building tonight at exactly 7pm (At seven in the evening. It was exactly seven in the evening -- The right people will get that) the Steely Dan song "FM" of all things will be broadcast on the radio and YouTube and you can get much more info at the link.
We agree with Gothamist writer John Del Signore about this not being one of Steely Dan's best songs though popular it was, and like him we're going to post a different Steely Dan song to fire you up, the title track from the album Aja.

Sometimes all you want while the world burns is a good read
Well what about a good read that features international intrigue, American "royalty" such as George Washington and Aaron Burr and actual guys on money? How about we spice it up with a haunted house? How about if it was set in olde New York and Paris? Come friends, read the amazing history of Eliza Jumel, formerly the richest woman in America and her NYC mansion.

Here's something that's pretty darned cool if you ask us
The new night crew came upon this website linked by our friends at Gothamist. A day in the Life of an NYC Taxi, it's fantastic to watch and just think about the randomness of a driver's day. Just click here and you're on your way!

We know from time to time a few folks from Park Slope check in here
We'd like to thank you and hope you enjoy your stay. We'd also like to throw you a bone since you were so nice to drop on by.
A pregnant tarantula is running loose in your neighborhood....Good times!
Yep, a pregnant red rump tarantula. You'll be able to tell it's a big honking tarantula in Park Slope because it has a red coloring near it's giant spider ass and not because its a giant killer spider loose in Park Slope where there haven't been any before. Gothamist has more but the "lost pet" flyers they have on display say the spider is "mostly harmless" so yeah, fun!

This Super Bowl thing must be a big deal, we get a Vignelli transit map out of it
Since the New Meadowlands (pay up Snoopy) is going to act as the fourth branch of government on Super Bowl Sunday and nobody will be tailgating or even driving to the game, you better get a look at the official transit map for the big event if you're planning on going. This isn't just any transit map, no Vignelli Associates was tasked with creating this one. They make the most famousest of transit line maps. You can hit up Gothamist for more on the story and map or check out the .pdf by clicking here. Those with tickets should keep in mind Governor Christie allegedly likes to slow down cross-border traffic on a giant scale if he is angered. He's stronger than the storm. Try and keep him happy until February 3.

New York City, in living color
Via Gothamist, how about these amazingly clear colorful moving picture images from NYC circa 1939? Pretty cool stuff. If you look at some sports video shown on ESPN from three weeks ago it looks older than this. Great video, everything looks jake.

Hey kids, do you wanna see something really cool?
How about a trip up into the Chrysler Building? No, not JUST to the observation deck, we mean WAY up inside, to the very tippy top inside the Chrysler Building. Wanna see what it looks like? Follow this link over at Gothamist and see you shall. It sure isn't how Johnny imagined it looking up that high.

Joey, do you like stories about mobsters?
And who doesn't? From the infamous New York gangsters and five families to the Bugsy Moran vs. Al Capone in the Chicago typewriter wars to the way San Francisco's far-east mobs used the city's tight fitting streets and doorways into virtual rabbit holes of crime and escape.
So what's a little murder on a Sunday morning? Sometimes somebody's gotta get whacked. Gothamist, perhaps inspired by a new mob teevee show, has put together some of the backstories behind some of the more famous mob hits. But Johnny, what new can there be at the link? I think I've heard all the stories.
Did you know John Gotti watched the hit on Paul Castellano from a car across the street from Sparks Steak House? Then he had someone drive him by the crime scene to make sure Big Paul got what he'd ordered up.
So follow this link and enjoy some contract hits over eggs and sausages this morning.
And while we're on the subject, did you know Jersey City produced one of the most feared mobsters of all time? It's true. Part 1 Part 2

What people won't do to have fun on the subway
Gothamist pointed this one out to everyone this morning, track jumpers at Ninth Avenue and 39th Street in Brooklyn.
For our money though this guy is still the king...

The Space Shuttle will be flying into NYC on April 23
...and by flying we mean riding on the back of a NASA shuttle carrier and landing at JFK. As Gothamist points out this particular space shuttle, Enterprise, never flew in actual outer space proper but was visited by the Star Trek crew. That right there is worth $3 of the entry cost when the shuttle goes on display in summer briefly before being moved somewhere else. Yep, that's pretty much what we have. It'll be moving somewhere else but it WILL be going by the Statue of Liberty on its way to the new home. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum has "ownership" of the shuttle but don't yet have a permanent home set.
Johnny is a pretty fair Photshopper himself and seeing the graphic over at the Gothamist for this story screams a Sullenberger flys shuttle headline...

Historical Intrigue Theatre presents:
The story of the 15 year-old boy who died dodging kisses from female co-workers.....in 1909.
A great read from our friends at Gothamist, and wholly original in scope here. If you like history and strange happenings, this will be a nice read over lunch.

Cruel AND hilarious at someone else's expense? Count us in...
The good people at Gothamist have a list of the 20 favorite lies to tell tourists. Here are a couple and click the link to see the rest:
*You're required by law to give a cigarette to anyone who requests one.
*You pay for a Metrocard by putting your credit card into the slot at the turnstiles.
*When you hear the bells of St. Patrick's ring, you should fire your gun in the air.

The Frank Gehry skyscraper in lower Manhattan is ready for YOU renter
Now, about that price...
One of the nicer new skyscrapers (Duh it's a Frank Gehry) is now taking applications for rental units and open for business. A studio apartment? $2,630 large a month. You can head over to Gothamist for more and learn what a 2 bedroom will set you back. The aesthetics? Those won't set you back...

So you find yourself videotaping a fight at school, the school wants YOU busted
According to the good people across the Hudson at Gothamist (via FOX 5), some high schoolers got into a fight at Half Hollow Hills High School East outside Long Island. It seems the school not only wants to bust the kids IN the fight but the one who filmed and those who watched. Talk about a nanny state. Dear school system, no matter how violent a fistfight gets it's ridiculous to expect high schoolers to break it up lest they get dragged into it and let's face facts, you have NO CASE if it weren't for the kid who filmed it to begin with. Your entire 'case' would go wanting. So instead of going after those who had ZERO to do with the fight, grow up and deal with the actual fighters.
