Here's the kind of important story that gets lost in the big news wash

The New Jersey State Troopers are suing the makers of their service weapons as they say their very lives are in danger after far too many misfires:

The New Jersey State Police has sued a major firearms manufacturer, claiming the company gave state troopers defective guns and failed to fix the problem.

The state filed a $2.5 million lawsuit against Sig Sauer alleging the 3,000 guns it purchased from the company frequently jammed, making them "life-threatening" for troopers and virtually "inoperable."

A very disturbing story as nobody wants our cops out there with defective firearms, besides, we pay for this, we need to demand better.

Just saw one of Mayor Healy's ads on the teevee

It centered on the Mayor's tireless efforts to get guns off of Jersey City's streets. Thankfully he has taken this head on for years. The ad notes the drop in the murder rate. We sometimes don't spend enough time thanking the Mayor about this because it's his signature issue. We eagerly await the Mayor's next ad on something new, the city taxes, what is REALLY physically tangibly happening at Journal Square, and the merging of city departments to really save money.

A note to Councilman Steve Fulop. Should you be fortunate enough to win the keys to city hall we can only hope you'll put as much emphasis on the topic of guns as Mayor Healy has.

A West New York assemblywoman wants you to pass a psych test before buying a gun

West New York Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez wanted everyone to know that she too was wading in, hip deep, in the national gun discussion. She proposed a bill that would require a person purchasing a gun to pass a psych test. And a home visit. And the names of mentally ill relatives.

Assemblywoman, we'll pass that right after the citizen initiative is passed to require the same of elected officials, hey, like you! We wouldn't want people to get elected who would crow about ridiculous shit that can't possibly be legal and doesn't help solve a very big issue, and it seems we as a nation are ready to address before The Big Bang Theory comes on teevee tonight. Your bill isn't helping your cause. By tonight it will be in an NRA fundraising letter. Real ideas are needed. Real debate awaits us.

Jersey City in fact could be proud of the far more pragmatic discussion Mayor Jerramiah Healy had on this topic on CNN. No ridiculous arm waving, no home visits, just a resolute point of view he wanted heard. Well done.

Jersey City residents are tough

How tough are they?

They're so tough they don't even notice when they're shot. Seriously, bullets can simply go right through a Jersey City resident and they'll just keep walking. A 26 year old resident today was walking near Wegman Parkway and Ocean Avenue when he heard what he described as a shot. He just kept walking. He didn't even realize a bullet had entered through his stomach and out his back. It was only after he noticed blood he decided to seek treatment.

He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

You don't see that kind of toughness in say, mmmmmm, Hoboken residents. They scream and wail and cry and draw attention to themselves when they get shot.

Bad girls bad girls, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you

Our good friend Trixie Action Space Punk over at the Naperville City Desk ran a piece recently on females who have run afoul of Johnny Law, well Jersey City, looks like over the last couple days we're needing to cover such ourselves. Adding to Hudson County Sheriff Officer Aleisha Cruz alcohol related issues, today we find out that a Hudson County corrections employee was arrested on several drug and weapons charges after police busted down the door of a drug dealer's house and found our gal, Juvenile Detention Officer Terea Lucas in bed with Muddathir Muhammad. Now, this was no small potatoes operation we're talking about here:

Fifty bags of suspected heroin, a 9mm handgun, bulletproof vest and samurai sword and sheath were confiscated from the apartment they were in.

Sounds like Terea isn't gonna wind up in Juvenile Detentions, sounds like big girl prison for her....
