According to the Port Authority the Holland Tunnel is closed tomorrow
Men in colorful costumes are dressing up to play pretend bomb scare or something and here is the announcement from the PA themselves:

Exchange Place to WTC on the PATH is no more on weekends for a long long time
We guess it matters how you think about Chris Christie and his lackeys at the Port Authority as to how you read this one.
The Port Authority has announced:
The shutdowns—between the Exchange Place station in Jersey City and the World Trade Center—are scheduled to begin Feb. 14 and continue on most weekends during 2014.
So is this well-timed payback towards Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop or is the PA actually trying to fix the tunnels? They are claiming the need to get this Exchange Place to WTC line power-washed and brought in line with something called "positive train control" which is mandated by January of 2015. The Wall Street Journal has more:
The new signal system will be similar to the technology called "communications based train control," which is installed on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's L subway line. The system provides both protection against collision and the ability to run trains closer together, enabling operators to squeeze more capacity out of overburdened transit lines.
But the new system couldn't have been installed in time for the Dec. 31, 2015 deadline to install the federally mandated anticrash system. Many intercity railroads, which are subject to the mandate, have said they can't meet the deadline, including Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road.
So is the timing of this really a signal modernization and cleaning or is this a stick in Jersey City's eye? Before you answer remember that the new national WTC Memorial opens this year and the easiest way to get there from Jersey City and Hoboken was just cut off on weekends.
So there you have it and friends it will be up to you as to how you interpret it.

Chris Christie can start working on the resignation speech now -- HE KNEW!
Well first things first. First, which scandal are we talking about? The G.W. Bridge scandal. Christie's school chum (and Christie barely even knew the guy before he fired him *wink wink*) David Wildstein says Christie was well aware the entire time despite his "Aw shucks some bad people did some bad things" speech a few weeks back:
In a letter released by his lawyer, the official, David Wildstein, a high school friend of Mr. Christie’s who was appointed with the governor’s blessing at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge, described the order to close the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference” three weeks ago.
So New Jersey, and to a lesser extent America, we got lied to. Johnny said the tells were there on the day Christie gave the speech he wasn't telling the truth. The question now is what are we gonna do about it? Are we gonna sit there and take it? Johnny sure isn't. Christie gave a two hour presser where he lied most of the time. Right to us. So, who do you believe NOW about the threat of holding back Hoboken relief for the right answer on the Rockefeller Property?

A PATH switiching issue has almost the entire system shut down
Congratulations Port Authority, when you're not intentionally screwing up commuters in Fort Lee at the GW Bridge, you're telling commuters, well for a while you weren't telling them anything and that is part of the problem. Due to switching problems almost the entire PATH system came to a standstill. Commuters were left on platforms after turnstiles had been blocked and were told nothing. No trains were coming, nobody was getting in or out, but the Port Authority, according to witnesses gave no updates or mentioned difficulties. The only line operating currently is the Hoboken to 33rd St. If you'd like to read some of the more colorful comments towards the Port Authority, by all means click here and read their Twitter feed.
