Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SOPHIE TUCKER!
You remember Sophie Tucker don't you? Hell this recording is only 102 years old and you're saying you don't remember it? Well friends we have a real treat tonight, Sophie Tucker. Here's "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas" with 'Knock Wood' from (are you sitting down?) 1912 as played on Thomas Edison's Wax Amberol Rare Phonograph Cylinder. It's worth a watch as well as a listen!

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with SOPHIE TUCKER!
Now here's a real oldie and if a commenter is to be believed a rarity as well. This song was recorded September 2, 1927. You may well be amazed at how good a recording from back then can sound.
Yes, the commenter. A poster made this point about his version of the song:
Sophie recorded this for Okeh records which was a subsidiary of Columbia, but Okeh chose not to release it because they did not want to compete with with a recording of the same song she did with the Ted Lewis Band a year earlier. Thus it was not heard for about 30 years when Columbia released it on an LP album "Sound of the Twenties"
We have no reason to believe this genre fan to be wrong in which case how lucky we are it was preserved those 30 years. Sophie Tucker with 'Some of These Days'
