All our lives, those of us fortunate enough to not have been born with an affliction such as blindness, deafness, mutism, it's understood we are our best persons around them because we're lucky the DNA played out the way it did AND you'd never look down your nose at someone with a life-challenge like deafness-- until today. Yes, a deaf guy was a dick and made 911 calls on an iPad app that deaf people use to make 911 calls. One Jason Paul Smith pled guilty to making bomb threats against the Statue of Liberty forcing the parks service and police to evacuate 3200 people from Liberty Island.

BREAKING NEWS: New Jersey's Statue of Liberty has been evacuated due to security concerns

The Statue of Liberty has been evacuated this afternoon according to several news sources due to a report of a suspicious package. At this point we'll turn this story over to the pros at real news.

Hey New Jersey, that sound you hear is New York City deflating

The air has been let out of New Yorker's long-held belief that THEY were Gotham in the Batman story. Cottage industries have been built on the belief they are where Batman lives.

News this morning breaks that in FACT Batman lives in New Jersey and folks that comes from The DC Comics Wiki and here and here that Gotham City is in NEW JERSEY.

Listen, listen, can you hear the wails? Sounds like a few dead-enders too, "No way, it's still here despite the facts and um, SHUT UP!" The tears, they are delicious.

So, The Batcave, Wayne Enterprises and all that is Batman now joins the Statue of Liberty in the "Things in New Jersey coveted rather rudely by New Yorkers" column. Only one way to end this post.

While July may seem like a long way off...

It is always best to plan ahead. While we're not saying go line the river up in FuHo just yet, Macy's announced the July 4th fireworks will once again be held on the Hudson River, eschewing those with properties on the East River. While we're sure there will be plenty of whining and gnashing of teeth over the Hudson River choice by some New Yorkers, we think it is the correct call. As a consolation perhaps they will have fireworks at another New Jersey landmark visible from Brooklyn, the Statue of Liberty.

HAIL!! The Statue of Liberty is 125 today

Jersey City's own most famousest of monuments, the Statue of Liberty is 125 today (that's a LOT of candles) and plenty of big events are planned for Liberty Island, Ellis Island and fireworks out in New York Harbor tonight by Macy's.

Kicking off today’s ceremonies at 8:45 a.m. will be the Naturalization Ceremony, which seeks to honor the millions of U.S. immigrants who were first welcomed to America by Lady Liberty.

“Some 125 immigrants from more than 40 nations, including Albania, China, Italy, Haiti, Croatia and the Dominican Republic, will become U.S. citizens in honor of the statue’s symbol of enduring hope since 1886,” Ahern said.

A National Park Service ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., featuring a talk by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and performances by various singers and actors.

At roughly 7:45 p.m., to close the 125th anniversary, Macy’s Fireworks will ignite the autumn skies with shells and umbrellas of light from two barges, as well as from Liberty Island itself, officials said.

The fireworks will be accompanied by the original score, “Gift of Light,” written by Grammy-award-winning composer Doug Katsaros, and Emmy-winning lyricist/Macy’s creative director William Schermerhorn.

A simulcast of the closing ceremony will be carried by 1010 WINS radio.

Now, tomorrow the Statue itself will be closed for up to a year for some badly needed improvements. The Ellis Island and Liberty Island buildings will be open to the public, but not Lady Liberty ("Moose out front should have told you...").

And by the way the Statue of Liberty, aka 'The Harbor Wench' is located in Jersey City, NOT New York. Johnny doesn't know how long people around here are going to try to get away with that but as long as he's the head of the Jersey City Desk he's going to point it out.
