Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEW ORDER!

Let's get this Memorial Day weekend started with some great music shall we? Filling that drive-in pushbutton speakerphone order first tonight is New Order (Hey yo!) and 'Regret' which has nothing to do with the fact you're about to stuff 12 inches of chili dog down your gullet with a giant root beer to wash it down. That's on you, not our friends New Order.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with LUCINDA WILLIAMS!

Hey kids, let's play a new kind of Ice Bucket Challenge. It'll be great! First go get two friends to fill up a big-ass bucket with ice water. Got that? Glorious. Have them hold it at the ready while you listen to 'Can't Let Go' by Lucinda Williams. If you're not stomping your foot or moving around or joining in on the chorus then at the end of the song have your friends dump the water on your head. Don't invite anyone else to do it, don't give anyone any money you're getting it because you're already a buckethead who doesn't like good things.

Do post it on YouTube though.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MARVIN GAYE!

'Ain't That Peculiar' by Marvin Gaye, one of the best songs ever. Again here we see proper backup singers pushing a song over the top.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA!

Sure, this can be the "bonus" song tonight if you wish, and here's hoping the great run of weather keeps up through tomorrow night and again on Monday. Electric Light Orchestra with 'Mr. Blue Sky' with Mr. Night creeping over your shoulder...

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MAZZY STAR!

Passionate indifference, it's how Johnny described Hope Sandoval's voice back then and it's still the perfect comparison if he does say so himself. Normally we don't start off the Music Series with a slower song, ie you don't want 'Ten Years Gone' first off by Led Zeppelin live, you want 'Rock and Roll' unless it's a fantastic song, like this one here.

'Fade Into You' from 2005.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE MIRACLES!

Remember the part in Shrek where Donkey is going on about how great parfaits are and how nobody doesn't love a parfait? The Miracles are the parfait of not just Motown but music. Smokey's perfect emotive voice, the harmonies, the jangling tunes, some nasty sax as needed, they're just a fucking delight. Get in the car kids because tonight we're 'Going to a Go-Go'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with FRANK ZAPPA!

This is probably Johnny's favorite song about the upwardly mobile opportunities in rock music for disaffected kids, in particular, the women. Frank Zappa clearly saw this to be an issue WITH a solution. A man ahead of his time. 'Crew Slut' giving us a life lesson on your way out the door tonight.
Not sure if it was really Toto or not. Classic.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with ROBERT GORDON!

Johnny heard you you know. That's right person on Twitter who said who is Robert Gordon when you saw this week's lineup. Johnny was hurt. Who is Robert Gordon. What even is that question? Oh Sweet Summer Child. Getting us started proper is one Robert Gordon and a real barnshaker, 'Red Hot'
