Jersey City releases list of streets up for some construction love

The Jersey Journal has a list, by Ward, of which Jersey City streets are going to go from chuckholed out cobblestone back to pavement (Thanks PSE&G and construction trucks headed downtown) this year. You can follow this handy dandy link and find out if your commute just got more annoying and then better or simply just annoying.

Traffic and construction, probably the last thing you want to think about on a Sunday

As we head out of the holiday season and smack into the cold winds of January and a new year, the reality of construction projects around New Jersey and the traffic delays those projects will cause hits us like a blast of wind off the Atlantic. NJ.com has a handy list of all the projects and roadway hassles you're going to face in 2015, though some of these projects will definitely improve life they will come with headaches. We also have one more year of the Pulaski Skyway repairs, about halfway through the closure today.

So take a look and make your plans to get around the big projects this year.

The further "ungreening" of Jersey City

Saw this sad scene this morning as well while following up in the PAD. Lovely isn't it? Just rip that shit out and throw it away, it's only green. Yes this city sure is trying to make itself a sustainable ecologically friendly city. Keep telling yourself that while you watch this amazing video. Then ask your city government if there is anything builders and the like are not allowed to do.

Sometimes buildings just name themselves

Johnny has the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a fox -- luckily that was fixed with surgery when he was young -- but he still has a very keen sense of sight.

Johnny saw a dumpster a couple floors north of ten hanging out of one of the new towers going up at 70-90 Columbus downtown. But wait, what's that? The spray paint, it has a message for all and perhaps a very unfortunate new name for the buildings there. If you can't see it right off just click on the image for a very big one and it'll become crystal clear why Jersey City will be calling the 70-90 Columbus site the __ _____ Building.

So Johnny's getting a cup of mud at The Warehouse this morning (The Intelligentsia coffee they use is a fantastic first cup) and sees Sanford and Son being replayed right in front of his disbelieving eyes. Scroll down a story or two and see our thoughts on construction sites and an "I don't care because I don't live there" attitude. Here we see Jimmy the Vest chatting up two guys dumping mounds of trash from a jobsite dumpster onto Provost St., a street that's original cobblestone trying to be protected by PADNA, the Jersey City government, PSE&G and everyone but these geniuses. Just tossing mounds of trash out, some breaking up as it's tossed. What do they care though right? Who cares about the broken plastic pieces and foam from what look to be scads of office chairs when all you want is scrap metal?

And now a guy from the Toll Brothers workaday team has found something entertaining to do on breaks. Lovely.

Johnny was walking his dog through the Powerhouse Arts District this morning

There are at least three plots of land that are five feet wide by five feet square that aren't being built on. What gives? It would seem every other piece or scrap of land not occupied by a fire hydrant has a crane or bulldozers or many men climbing scaffolding on it. Better put something on those five by fives before grass grows. Also, if you want to test how well your Hear-o's work, (the things you stick in your ears at night to block noise) walk down 1st St. from Grove to the river. Jiminy Crickets.

It's a construction kind of day in the Powerhouse Arts District

Johnny was off to have a cup of good morning America down by the river this AM and chanced across a pretty massive undertaking in front of 140 Bay St. For all the world it looks like the entire building was getting a makeover but we were told it's just the roof being replaced. Trucks and trucks worth of roofing materials, giant cranes, forklifts and an army of men all out on a raw Friday morning in our fair city.
