No, not old people, real dinocars. Johnny took the dire for a rainy walk this morning and figured since it was crappy out he'd grab a cup-to-go of that fine Intelligentsia coffee from the Warehouse Cafe.
They can be ruthless in the PAD to illegally parked cars. Johnny's seen it for years. They embarrass poor parkers. This one was parked over the yellow lines and was blocking a small walkway and presto, instant Nissan Stegosaurus.

Wildlife sighting in downtown Jersey City!
While walking the dire wolf this morning, and after grabbing a coffee at the Warehouse Cafe as he is known to stop in and buy at the halfway point in the walk, Johnny's wolf began really barking. Now she's a talker anyway but this, this was different. She seemed somehow fixated on a line of cars outside the building the Warehouse Cafe is in. Bark bark whiiiiiiine bark. What ever could it be?
A skunk! A big old skunk crawling under cars making his or her way east down Bay St. Johnny stood in the street trying to get pictures with a wilding dog trying also not to get sprayed. Finally the skunk acquiesced. Johnny then warned residents coming out of the building there. He warned Warehouse customers. He did NOT warn the Lloyd Goldman 111 First. St. construction guys because screw them.
A skunk, no doubt out for a morning stroll, perhaps to the Warehouse Cafe because they use that great Intelligentsia Coffee Johnny loves so much. Maybe the skunk was headed to the food truck down at the corner of Bay and Warren, how apropos. Here's your shots of the wildlife going on downtown even as we speak Jersey City.

Where do you get your coffee fix Jersey City?
Because according to the Village Voice, Jersey City has some pretty darned good coffee houses around town.
The Village Voice decided to leave dreary old Manhattan and come to the good side of the Hudson River in search of great coffee houses. They listed the "Top Ten Coffee Shops in Jersey City and Hoboken." The ones they listed in Jersey City?
9) WORD Bookstore, 123 Newark Avenue, Jersey City
8) Tea NJ, 262 Newark Avenue, Jersey City
7) Sam AM, 112 Morris Street, Jersey City
5) The Warehouse Cafe, 140 Bay Street, Jersey City
2) Dames Coffee Espresso Bar, 581 Jersey Avenue, Jersey City
1) modcup coffee, 479 Palisade Avenue, Jersey City
Mea culpa, Johnny is enjoying a cup of joe this morning from the Warehouse Cafe and that great Intelligentsia coffee they serve. He's also been to four coffee shops on this very list. Now he's going to try the other two.
Make sure to check out the article as they have great little factoids about each place and you can also find out where those top coffee houses in Hoboken are. Coffee, the true vitamin C.

Per our discussion yesterday about construction sites and garbage and so forth...
So Johnny's getting a cup of mud at The Warehouse this morning (The Intelligentsia coffee they use is a fantastic first cup) and sees Sanford and Son being replayed right in front of his disbelieving eyes. Scroll down a story or two and see our thoughts on construction sites and an "I don't care because I don't live there" attitude. Here we see Jimmy the Vest chatting up two guys dumping mounds of trash from a jobsite dumpster onto Provost St., a street that's original cobblestone trying to be protected by PADNA, the Jersey City government, PSE&G and everyone but these geniuses. Just tossing mounds of trash out, some breaking up as it's tossed. What do they care though right? Who cares about the broken plastic pieces and foam from what look to be scads of office chairs when all you want is scrap metal?
And now a guy from the Toll Brothers workaday team has found something entertaining to do on breaks. Lovely.

Serious flooding in the Powerhouse Arts District this morning
Johnny woke up after a fine sleep after a night of hurricane partying and found this scene near the Warehouse Cafe at Bay St. and Provost.

You can't get ant better than this, Blimp Races today!!
Call it the Dirigible-on-Hudson 500 because citizens have we got fun today. 3 blimps (Unless Johnny turns the Jersey City Desk traffic copter into a drag racer) will race from the Statue of Liberty, up the Hudson to Weehawkem then into midtown Manhattan.
The Hangar 1 Vodka blimp, the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey blimp, and the DirectTV blimp will race at 5 pm today until 7 pm. Of course we are cheering for the Blue Cross of New Jersey blimp just because we're homers.
Current toteboard odds:
Hangar 1 Vodka blimp 7-1
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey blimp 5-2
DirectTV blimp 4-1
Bet as much as you want to. The Raccoon Lodge in lower Manhattan near the new One World Trade is taking off track money as is the WareHouse Cafe here in Jersey City.
