Johnny's fearless Oscar predictions!

Jersey City Desk entertainment writer Johnny (funny how that works out) has his fearless forecast of something other than a football game for tonight's Academy Awards located somewhere in California, maybe Oxnard.

Best Movie: The Wolf of Wall Street
Best Actress: Amy Adams
Best Actor: Chiwetel Ejiofor
Best Supporting Actress: June Squibb
Best Supporting Actor: Jonah Hill
Best Director: David O. Russell

Johnny doesn't see one movie really going on a run where they pick off three and four major awards. This could lead to some surprise winners. Johnny's "dark horse" candidate to grab a surprise Oscar is Sandra Bullock. Though not favored to win, with many split ballots and her strong performance in carrying a major film it could just sway enough votes.

And good readers we'd love to know some of YOUR favorite movies that may or may not have won the Best Picture Academy Award, some of your favorite actors and actresses and maybe you'd like to share some of your most hated Oscar snubs. Johnny will start that category off by wondering how in the fresh hell Kramer vs. Kramer beat Apocalypse Now for best picture. Another of Johnny's hacked off Oscar moments was Joaquin Phoenix somehow NOT winning the Best Supporting Actor statue for his otherworldly performance of Emperor Commodus in Gladiator. Johnny most likely WOULD have been tuning in tonight if the Academy hadn't lost their minds and not nominated Mila Kunis for Black Swan. Stop giving out gift bags to rich people and start nominating those most worthy AND give the viewers at home an 'eye candy bag' with Ms. Kunis.

So Johnny hopes Natalie Portman wins but past that doesn't really much care. Your thoughts?

And we'll kick it off with the 1961 winner of Best Picture, the New York love story 'West Side Story'.


It seems in 1961 gang members would hold dance offs over turf with the occasion knife. We like this stylized form of turf war better than drive by shootings.
