We're handing out a homework assignment and oh is it a good one

NPR this past summer released the Greatest 150 albums created by women and it is an extensive list. As with any list like this there will be hits and misses on general principle and this particular list does have it's own set of issues for you the reader; Is Wild Planet by the B-52's really an album created by women with the great Fred Schneider being so prevalent? You'll want to have your 'calling bullshit' flag elsewhere on the list as later this week we'll dig into it and this Friday on the Music Series all the cuts will come from this magnificent list.

Learn it. Know it. Live it. Plus there are some really great images like Debbie Harry, Chrissie Hynde and The Slits hanging out and looking forever young.

A really big show tonight at The Beacon Theatre

Blondie and Garbage, as mentioned in last week's Music Series lands tonight and Johnny can't wait. He's always loved the strong women in music and tonight boy howdy we get two. The bands are fabulous but there's something about Shirley and Debbie that makes tonight a true event. Full update on the show tonight.

Happy 70th Birthday Debbie Harry!!

Anyone who reads the Jersey City Desk knows how much Johnny reveres Debbie Harry and her time with and without Blondie. To a kid living in Ortonville Michigan in the late 70's and early 80's who wanted nothing more than to be in New York City, her voice has always been a beacon. Johnny was blown away one night, a real epiphany listening to the debut of Autoamerican on 105.5 FM out of Flint on his stereo being broadcast in something called Carver Sonic Holography it was, well, Johnny still remembers it as a high-water mark musically after all these years. That's how they'd do it back then kids. If a band had a really big album they'd let a station in each market play it, usually at midnight so everyone could hear it at the same time or together. A great way to reward loyal fans and a great program by the FM stations back then. Then you'd get on Twitter, Facebook and text your friends about what they thought...NOT!

And then radio died but it sure wasn't Debbie Harry's fault. Here now Johnny's favorite Blondie song, 'Union City Blue' with a hale and hearty happy birthday to her royal highness Debbie Harry.

Kinda late to call it a Free Day

But when you've ben hobnobbing, carousing and going to shows and catching up with old friends and then partying into the wee hours on Sunday night when your team makes the Final Four quite unexpectedly Monday can hit purty hard.

So ah, Free Day.

We're shifting the Music Series to Saturday this week

Sorry fans of hot Friday night online music, we're gonna have to move the show until tomorrow as Johnny has a treat in store for himself tonight. As you well know Johnny has always been a huge fan of women in music. Huge fan. He's seen (and talked with) some of his idols. Tonight though, tonight is very very special. Probably no one woman has spent more hours in Johnny's ears than the rest and tonight Johnny gets great seats to see Ms. Deborah Harry at the famed Cafe Carlyle. Debbie (it just sounds so wrong to say Ms. Harry so it's Debbie) had a wonderful write-up in the New York Times as she begins her time performing at the cabaret inspired club.

So live music for Johnny tonight as he sits like a schoolboy with a crush and back to the Music Series on Saturday.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with BLONDIE!

On remix and remade night we're going to start you off with a real treat. Nobody spent more time remaking and remixing their own songs than Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie. But this is the original version, the original REGGAE version of what would later become one of the biggest disco hits ever, 'Heart of Glass'. This song was such a hit during the disco era in many circles it came to be known as simply 'The Disco Song'.
