We were going to cover other things tonight...

...that was until, for reasons unknown, the entire, and by entire we mean all 9 city council members, decided to vote against an ordinance introduced by Councilman Michael Yun that would have banned puppy mill puppies from being sold in Jersey City pet stores. Slam dunk in basketball, tap-in in golf, it's the easiest thing in the world to do the right thing and protect animals.

Nope.

All nine council members, all nine thought puppy mills were A-Ok (don't bother with technicalities about boutique breeds, such a minuscule number vs thousands of dogs and cats who can't get adopted, you're gonna lose that moral argument), or at least OK enough the sale of them is fine in Jersey City. It's beyond shameful. It's the most ashamed Johnny has ever been since he moved to Jersey City. The Humane Society has presented this same ordinance in hundreds of other places and it's been adopted in every single one, until now. It's beyond the pale.

It doesn't really matter if it gets reintroduced, it's not going to wipe the shame away of voting against the best interests of animals. Here are their names, if they're all in on their awful votes they won't mind this list, if it bothers any of them in the least, yeah, they know they fucked this up:

Sen. Cory Booker just dropped the ball on health care costs

In all seriousness, shame on New Jersey Senator Cory Booker. He talks big on lowering health care costs but when presented with a chance to really make a difference on a serious pocketbook issue, well it sure looks like Big Pharma money in Booker's pockets has won the day. 

The issue was whether or not Americans could save on prescription drugs by importing them from Canada. A lot of smart people think this WILL indeed force down prices on prescription drugs here. Know who agrees? Texas Sen.Ted Cruz. That's right, that right wing gas-knob from Texas. He even realizes that this is necessary. Shame Cory Booker doesn't. Booker's excuse (besides the 55K from Merck & Co other pharmaceutical companies) is that he's golly gosh for it you know but his paymasters--er his conscience won't allow him to help you on this one. Too big of a risk for you citizen.

Let that sink in. At ANY point in the last few years did you read any articles online or see a teevee news report about a bunch of dead Canadians lying outside pharmacies or along Yonge Street in Toronto or on the prairies of Western Canada? Of course you didn't. These drugs are already safe, it's just an excuse for Sen. Booker. It smacks a lot of the anti-vaxxer canard that "well, gee whiz you just can't give these kids all their vaccinations at once, they should be spread way out" which of course is code for "So not having my kid vaccinated."

Pick some small inconsequential thing that sounds like you're protecting people when in fact you're merely letting Pharma use you as their mouthpiece Sen. Booker.

You kids, you don't do this

This is not clever, funny, sporting, or amusing. Cheating is never acceptable, this is beyond the pale. While he didn't throw the ball, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone got the punishment since nobody would own up. He got a red card on general principle which could bring about a two-game ban at a critical time in their season. Screengrabber has us covered.

The trouble with having a mayor who runs for governor

We're not going to bury the lead, a mayor running for governor can't address anything in real time. Mayor Fulop has had nothing to say about the recent spate of murders and shootings. He's sure had nothing to say about the reval that's coming, perhaps to be force fed to Jersey City by the state. But why? Easy. Anything he says or his spokespeoples say it can and will be used against him in a campaign for governor. Basically the communication on big important issues is non-existent which is severely shortchanging the residents of OUR Fair City. This situation is a bust. Are we supposed to sit around waiting until after Fulop wins or doesn't to be told what's going on or to have a mayor open enough not to wait days or even weeks to spin the best sounding response?

Note to the mayor's office. Johnny was at Park and Sixth last night for dinner with friends, the table behind Johnny were talking reval and a spirited discussion was being had on the reval at the bar at leaving time. The citizenry sure knows what's going on in real time. It's a shame the run for governor costs Jersey City residents honest information as to what it's "leaders" are doing so they themselves can plan ahead.

Johnny was NOT going to wade into this George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin issue

Johnny has his own firmly held beliefs on just what happened and whether or not the jury was right or wrong. He wasn't going to even bring it up until he saw this. People are assaulting rock and roll stars of yore over this case. That's right, one Dinalynn Andrews-Potter walked up on stage and physically ATTACKED Lester Chambers at the Hayward Russell City Blues Festival in Hayward California, (Lester is formerly of the Chambers Brothers -- Time Has Come Today) because he dared dedicate the song 'People Get Ready' to Trayvon Martin's memory. Well Dinalynn couldn't have that and for reasons known only to her jumped up on stage and knocked Chambers backward with such force Chambers' son said his dad had "bruised rib muscle and nerve damage and he is sore all over." Chambers also is walking with a cane for now.

WTF people? Are we this far gone THIS is what comes to mind when someone dedicates a song? Jesus Christ Dinalynn don't listen to Kasey Casem anytyime soon. There is a strong movement afoot to charge Andrews-Potter with a hate crime. We'd be OK with that.

Shame on the New Jersey Senate

This nonsense that panders to the religious right that marriage can ONLY be between a man and a woman is disgraceful. If ONE person can show Johnny how one woman marrying another woman and getting the declared legal rights as such, and the same thing as a man marrying another man, if you you can show his this negatively negatively amortizes YOUR personal marriage Johnny would love to hear it. Just saying a marriage is only between a man and a woman isn't enough, that just doesn't hold water, you have to PROVE this cheapens or somehow adversely affects your own marriage.

Sounds like the only time the New Jersey Senate and certain small minded New Jersians want to have 'rights' is April 15th.
