Governor Christie legalizes "fireworks" in time for the 4th of July weekend
Fireworks, you know, sparklers, snakes, and party poppers. WOW, have a fucking fabulous 4th of July party with party poppers and sparklers. While this crap law does move New Jersey ahead of such troglodyte states like Delaware and Massachusetts that don't even allow sparklers.
Until you allow firecrackers and or bottle rockets and the like, your state doesn't allow fireworks.

Another day, anther dishonest cop
Johnny again and again called on Mayor Fulop to end this nonsensical stand around job idea, bet he wishes he'd have listened to Johnny back when.
Yet another Jersey City Police Officer, this one recently retired, (which is why his name didn't come up in the earlier list of TWELVE officers caught up in this federal probe) Anthony Iannicco has been caught up in the federal investigation into Jersey City PD stand around jobs. Iannicco now faces an offense that could send him to prison for up to five years. He also faces a fine of up to $250,000.
The guy admitted getting paid for jobs he didn't show up to and probably never had any intention of doing so. When these worthless jobs weren't covered they actually made the decision to pull cops off patrol to staff the stand around jobs. Yes, if you are reading this from outside Jersey City and said WTF, that DID that? Yes, we did. Those comments made by spokesperson Jennifer Morrill, yeah, dismiss those out of hand, again, the mayor was warned by Johnny and many others on social media this program stunk to high heaven. Can't claim to be the leaders on this when it took the feds to bust it open.
So, yes, again, another bad cop exposed in Jersey City, one wonders when that spigot might ever slow to a trickle.

The Port Authority are such dicks
Yes, DICKS. If you want the NYT you can find that here.
Ah, the Port Authority. They have bazillions of our tax dollars for tons of unnecessary overtime for nonsense details but one to actually do right by the paying public? Shuh, right.
Of course we're talking about the PATH elevator at Columbus and Grove St. You'd think one of the more popular PATH stops would have an elevator but no. Since the Grove St. stop opened in 2005 it's never had one. Again you'd think an entity with billions of dollars would put one in but nyah nyah, they said they don't have to. No, that's pretty much how it came out:
Weisman's group and Heightened Independence and Progress, Inc. sued the Port Authority in 2007, alleging the Port Authority, by not including an entrance for people in wheelchairs, violated state and federal laws requiring access for the disabled.
The Port Authority responded by arguing that the plaintiffs filed their lawsuit too late and that the agency does not have to comply with "unilaterally enacted state laws." A federal judge in September 2011 ordered the Port Authority to make the station wheelchair-accessible.
No, waaaay. You asked too late. Nope. Bzzzt. So not listening, talk to the hand. Well then you filed too late AND we don't have to listen to your stupid state laws, we can do as we wish. Right, until a judge says get your ass moving.
But did the Port Authority get moving? Of course not, they're a bunch of petulant idiots. Why would they? They came out with ridiculous excuses for why the new elevator took two years to build. They only worked at non-peak as not to interrupt the PATH service. Oh pull this one it plays Jingle Bells. Your elevators and escalators are broken all over the system for days and you're fine with that. Next up, and imagine the area around the Grove St. PATH over by the GNC/Subway side. The Port Authority said they had to limit night work as that's a --- residential area. The only residential area is stories up across a busy street. More crapola. They could have had this done much much sooner, but it would seem they were just pouting outloud.
There but for the grace of god go I, yes Port Authority? Be thankful every day you can use the stairs and escalators and try to stop being such dicks all the time.

So, the guy who wrote the pay to play law, to much fanfare, doesn't want to follow it
Mayor Fulop, Suez (formerly United) Water and the old checkbook are getting each other in trouble anymore. See, you'll recall when councilman Fulop did that great thing of creating a Jersey City pay to play law to help clean up government that was so good it was adopted by the state of New Jersey.
That's a fine accomplishment. Know what might be more impressive? Following your own damned law. Our play tonight comes in three acts, directed by Jersey Journal Terrence T. McDonald.
Act I The Money Flows
Suez and its political action committee gave Fulop's re-election bid at least $10,800 in the last four years, plus another $1,000 to the Fulop-controlled Jersey City Democratic Committee, campaign reports show. Those amounts exceed contribution limits placed on some city vendors by the city's pay-to-play law. (Add to this the generous 10K contribution to Fulop's SuperPAC in his canceled run for Governor)
Act II The Word Salad
Asked to comment, Suez spokeswoman Madeline Power said, "The Suez Political Action Committee ensures that all of its contributions comply with local, state and federal laws."
Act III Salience
Craig Holman, a lobbyist for the Washington group Public Citizen, helped draft New Jersey's pay-to-play ban, which was modeled after Jersey City's law. Holman reviewed the city's pay-to-play ban and the Suez donations for The Jersey Journal. "They would appear to be a direct violation of the pay-to-pay law," Holman said. "The MUA ... agreed to the pay-to-play policy, which it should, but is clearly not abiding by it."
So, as McDonald points out, it sounds like Fulop has no intention of following his own law or if he does at best in a slapdash fashion with plenty of excuses. Suez is willing to say anything and it would appear pay anything to keep the MUA contract that's coming up for them. This might lead some cynical reporter like Johnny to ask if Mr. Fulop meant the law he backed or if he only wanted to hurt former Mayor Healy with it.

The best city reporter anywhere, Terrence T. McDonald has a very good read on the fact that the frosty relations between the Friends of Loew's and Mayor Fulop seem to be on the mend. Johnny is beyond glad the Friends of Loew's dug in and held their ground a while back and didn't just acquiesce to the demands of the current administration over turning the running of Loew's over to a group they'd pick. Sad to hear Candice Osborne won't run for re-election
Her reasoning for not wanting to run for a second term are solid, spending time with her son as he graduates high school and begins looking at colleges. Johnny's reasoning for wanting her to stay is personal, he's been able to make his little area of Jersey City better working with the Councilwoman. Yes, Johnny has and does disagree with her love of abatements but she's also been the only voice of reason when it comes to a sane parking/pedestrian policy. She's acted when Johnny's had enough stupidity downtown when it comes to construction nonsense. She worked with Johnny to give Lloyd Goldman and BLDG, builders and executors of The One, a bill north of one million dollars for their destruction of a city park in fines and holding up their certificate of occupancy. Osborne also didn't just show up at events for bad builders who we know she saw as bad actors in Jersey City. She tried promoting, rather than being negative. She was accessible. She followed up. She's also one of two people who know Johnny's real identity.
Johnny will miss her. Best to Councilwoman Osborne in her future endeavors. As Johnny said on Twitter, he'll now put a bucket on his head and run for her seat.

The first discipline has been handed down in the wild west chase that ended in the fiery crash
Four Jersey City policemen were suspended and two deputy chiefs reassigned after the mess that was the Tonnelle Run a week back. These suspensions and reassignments have nothing do do with the fire and kicking those trying to not be on fire. These "punishments" are for the chase and shooting out of car windows through the streets of Jersey City before the fire.
Lest the cops not get their due:
The four officers are Lt. Keith Ludwig, MD Khan, Erik Kosinski and Francisco Rodriguez. Ludwig, who was promoted from sergeant on May 31, is a 24-year veteran of the department. Ludwig, Shea said today, has "an excellent record." The other three officers are recent additions to the force, joining between 2013 and 2015.
Ludwig was the supervisor responsible for overseeing the entire pursuit, Khan and Kosinski set up an unauthorized roadblock during the pursuit and Rodriguez fired at a moving vehicle, city officials said today. All are violations of state attorney general guidelines on police pursuits.
The two deputy chiefs being reassigned are Mark Hussey, chief of patrol, and John Corry Short, chief of investigations. Both have been on the force since 1979 and have both been reassigned to city command, which oversees the day-to-day operations of the department in the absence of the chief.

Glad to see the Big Apple BBQ got the messages about the size
After sitting out a couple years after making all the Big Apple BBQ's since moving out here, Johnny was pleased to see the sheer size of the event had been scaled back. 26th St. didn't have pitmasters set up on both sides of the street and the set up didn't just keep going up Madison Ave until it just seemed to finally stop. There also seemed to be better organization around the food pick-up spots. Also, even though it was 95ยบ today if you got there at 11 when it started, sat under that Amazon thick tree canopy on the far east side of the park, the breeze made it feel like 80ยบ. You could enjoy ribs and brisket and chicken wings and pulled pork sandwiches and still make room for a fried apple pie without getting overheated.

The Jersey City Police think they are the 4th branch of government
Remember a while back Johnny called Jersey City a B+ town with a D+ police force?
The JCPD just failed all their final exams and will be held back. Well, they'll be holding the city back we should say.
As mentioned last evening, Johnny has been following the case of the fiery wreck that ended with Jersey City police officers kicking a man on fire who was not involved in the chase. Before it ended however, Jesus Christ what a stupidity-laden evening for the JCPD. They even got their new trucks taken away it was so bad.
So, we have a chase through the streets and neighborhoods of Jersey City. Multiple neighborhoods and multiple city jurisdictions. As Mayor Fulop pointed out, this chase, and the way it was carried out was an embarrassment, he also pointed out the chase broke city guidelines on such matters. For one it sounds like in addition to not weighing the offense vs. the chase, Fulop also pointed out that the police were hanging out of their car windows at high speeds and going around corners actually SHOOTING at the suspect like you may have seen in the Blues Brothers:
OK, Act One wasn't pretty. Act Two doesn't get any better.
As we all know from video, the car being chased (and we want a 50 year automatic sentence for the driver for his bullshit BTW) crashed into another car and a utility pole which started a right bright and intense fire. One of the people, NOT THE SUSPECT, was desperately tearing his clothes off next to the scene and then one, then another JCPD officer ran up and KICKED the man, trying to get away from a crash and fire he had NOTHING TO DO WITH.
Give us back those trucks
Mayor Fulop is right to want to prosecute and fire these JCPD ass-clowns. Sorry, that's what they are. They are a poor representation of our city and there is zero need to keep bad actors on the Jersey City police force. This kind of wild west policing comes from a very dangerous place, that police think they are allowed to do anything and every damn thing they want to while on duty (and increasingly off) needs to change. There needs to be a new attitude and new leadership in the JCPD ASAFP because where we disagree with the Mayor on this is is when he called it an isolated incident.
Far from it. The Jersey City Police have a simply awful history of following laws and rules like you and Johnny are expected to. How many DUI's were covered up as professional courtesy (Robbinsville Vincent Corso?) Should be zero. The steroid abusers, the on-duty stand around jobs scamming the city of revenue in 100 count federal indictments, disbanded motorcycle groups, getting arrested in Bayonne with drugs, pro-militia groups within the department, and on and on and on.
You tell us Jersey City, it's a crappy force right now isn't it? If the word crappy offends you, or if you're a professional apologist like Carmine Disbrow, then DO something to make the force better instead of complaining and constantly whining about any improvements being undertaken. "Oh, let's not rush to judgement" said no police union spokesperson ever when dealing with a criminal suspect. Stop blaming citizens like Johnny who rightly point out the JCPD nonsense, stop crying when the mayor has tough words for your stupidity, stop sniveling if city council wants to know what you're doing and how.
Try looking in the mirror. You can up your game and make the JCPD a better police force or you can let the citizens and elected officials outline how your jobs get done. Your choice.
The JCPD just failed all their final exams and will be held back. Well, they'll be holding the city back we should say.

After this mess all played out, embarrassingly for our fair city, the coverups began. Jersey Journal reporter Caitlin Mota made the point right away police were not cooperating by admitting where the chase went, if shots were fired and what finally happened. JCPD were quick to point out the driver who fled but not their own ridiculous actions during and after. They knew they were doing it wrong, they still chose to do it then they felt the need to hide from their heinous decisions.

Johnny's been following the fiery crash
Ever since the night it happened (remember, Johnny has a listening station and can hear anyone anytime) he's been following and letting things play out vs what was first reported. He knew he didn't want to write a big story after he heard excellent Jersey Journal reporter Caitlin Mota report the JCPD weren't exactly being forthcoming with how the chase started and how it wound through the streets. He smelled something bad. Then came the punitive claw-back of new JCPD SUV's from those involved with the crash. Then came the kicking video. Then today Mayor Fulop really took a stand for what we believe is right. We have our differences with the mayor but we back him 100% on this.
We're going to have whole write up now that the facts have played out and Johnny really has a full plate to work with. It's really not going to be pretty for the JCPD.

Johnny will write you all excuse notes
Required teevee tomorrow kids with former FBI Director pointing out Donald J. Trump committed obstruction of justice. The dead enders and Twitterbots are already trying to muddy the waters with nonsense, something that after Comey's testimony will leave no doubt in any thinking American's mind.
So whether you need the excuse note for school or work you just email Johnny.

Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant two times a week. A little candlelight, dinner, soft music and dancing. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays.

In election results that surprise nobody...
The Democratic nominee for governor will be Phil Murphy, former Goldman Sachs exec who wouldn't commit to almost anything during the primaries. The Republican nominee will be Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno who is going to have to do more to explain where she's been the last 8 years besides mall openings and coming out of her hidey hole on February 2nd every year.

Today's big number -- 2,500
That's roughly the amount who rode through all six Jersey City wards today during the Jersey City Ward Tour. That's an impressive number. One can easily see this growing to 5,000 or more and if you get that many and they stay active on bike issues throughout the city, you can definitely set policies.
Here's to growing 2,500 to 5,000 in the next five years.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MARVIN GAYE!
Unlike some record offers that offer one side for dancing and another for romancing, here on the Music Series all our songs tonight will work for both.
That's a win for you.
You're welcome.
Now make sure you have that special other person in your life and throw back a few belts of an adult beverage, smoke 'em if ya got 'em or however you to be lit lighting candles. Who better than Marvin Gaye to get things started tonight.
'Let's Get It On' and if the spirit moves ya, let me groove ya.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE CRYSTALS!
Passion. This song is filled with so much passion. Know what else? It actually sounds like young love being described. Love it. A perfect song on romance night. 'Then He Kissed me' in the familiar Phil Spector Wall of Sound mono, but there is a rare stereo version of this song well worth comparing. You can find that here.
Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with THE FOUR TOPS!
Well, after all this romance music and the mood being what it is, Johnny and the crew are gonna slide on out of here, wait, no we're not. You are. Don't even do that on Zoltron's desk. Stop it. Ew.
The Four Tops with 'Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got)' helping you find love tonight.

The Trump Bay St. projects using EB-5 visas has clearly rattled city hall
Sounds like the one who should be especially rattled is Council President Rolando Lavarro. The story about government agencies and bad actors literally bending, if not outright ignoring certain areas in the PAD to make the area of Trump Towers on Bay St. seem underprivileged, broken down, poor and almost destitute.
What about Lavarro? Glad you asked, citizen:
"This is the first I've heard," Lavarro said. "I would have to do a little independent research on that."
Lavarro is also chair of the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency, which in April 2013 designated an LLC controlled in part by Kushner as the developer of Trump Bay Street, located at 65 Bay St. near the waterfront.
Jennifer Morrill, city spokeswoman, well she didn't know no nuthin'.
Terrence T. McDonald is an excellent, award-winning and tenacious reporter. Johnny gets the feeling between the Bay St. visa issues and the newly turned-up 235 Grand St. visa 'sales', along with the hash that has become of J2, something bad is going to shake loose.
Some people just don't want to go to jail, ya know?
