Union City Screw: Local man accused of selling fake Viagra

Suck on that New York Post.

Yousef Awawda, of Union City, and Abdul Kazan, of Haledon, had 9,602 counterfeit Viagra pills in their possession when they were arrested in North Bergen Wednesday, officials said.

You have to think these two had to keep moving around to sell this garbage because, well, if you buy something like Viagra it is for a purpose and if at the big moment the purpose fails to materialize you're going to backtrack in your head to the guy who sold it to you. Guys tend to like to get laid so again, keep moving. These pills weren't worth a small price either, there's money in them thar boner pills:

The pair are accused of possession and trafficking the counterfeit drug, and officials said the pills they had when arrested had an estimated street value of $130,000.

Actually though we here fail to see where a crime was really committed. We doubt you'll be able to find any "victim" to come forward and say they were ever stiffed by Awawda and Kazan.

Huge Cuban Day Parade today in North Hudson

A Cuban Day Parade, far bigger than the one they simply stopped having in New York City, in part because of the attendance at the one west of the Hudson River will step off today at noon. The parade, expected to draw upwards of 450,000 people will begin at James J. Braddock Park, 79th Street and Bergenline. It will pass through North Bergen, Guttenberg, West New York, and Union City.

What a gorgeous day on tap for it kids, get out there and enjoy all the fun. The festival after the parade will run until 10 pm.

Union City booze

Yes, we'll admit we're running out of acronyms for the old Blondie song 'Union City Blue'.

A bar in Union City was apparently serving alcohol to minors on Teen Night. Mexico Lindo has now lost their liquor license until mid-February because of the violations. Police said that 130 minors were drinking at the establishment on a "teen night" event on Nov. 13. Mayor Brian Stack said the punishment fit the crime and there was no need for a permanent revocation of Mexico Lindo's liquor license as they have not had issue with the establishment before.

Union City Bruise

A Union City public works director was assaulted by an employee with a bottle last week, an attack that landed Phil Iacovelli in the hospital and we're guessing 'soon to be FORMER' Union City public works employee Ruddy Castillo was arrested for assault. Castillo's next court date has not yet been set but his disciplinary hearing is set for July 7th.

He's drunk at 5 pm, is anyone surprised Union City's own Jacinto George Gutierrez would grope a teen?

Drunk at 5 pm, you know, like ya do on a Monday in Union City, you tie one on and when a young lady walks by her you grab her rear end. Jacinto George Gutierrez was arrested Monday by the Union City Blues after his victim flagged them down and told them which direction Gutierrez was stumblin and a slurrin.

Gutierrez was charged with criminal sexual contact and had to pay THE MAN $2,500

Union City gets a nice grant to put in energy efficient outside lighting

Over 500K in grants are helping Union City replace the old street lights with newer more efficient lights that in the long run will help save the city a lot of do-re-mi.

According to Ralph Tango, an engineering consultant for Union City, apart from a different type of glow from the lights residents will notice no difference in brightness but overtime WILL notice a a lowering of the city's utility bills.

Sounds good to us, in order to get more energy efficient lights here to save money all the company selling then needs to do is walk by city hall with open brief cases of money and watch the pigeons come running out to get 'fed'.

Minutes long crime spree in Union City and Weehawken is thankfully over

According to police in several jurisdictions, Kevin Felder is one enterprising crook. Kevin, a Jersey City guy, began his minutes long crime spree with a mask and pellet gun in Weehawken at Peter Street and Park Avenue accosting a person returning home from work. Felder demanded money and a cell phone. The victim handed over $300 bucks and couldn't find their cell phone. Seeing as how Felder is a busy crook with places to go and people to rob, he took off. Magically the Weehawken victim found their cell phone and dialed 911, like ya do. Moments later Felder was off to Union City where at that point another robbery on 39th Street had just taken place, and the description of the perp was amazingly close to that of the crook in the Weehawken theft. Union City police saw Felder, who then declared his innocence by running but was captured by the nimble Union City po-po.

Mr. Felder will be charged in both cities with robbery, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. Send cards and letters to Felder in care of the Hudson County jail in Kearny.

That alarm you may or may not hear today in Bayonne is the Emergency Broadcast Network

While everyone else in Hudson County WILL hear the sirens from the Hudson County Office of Emergency Management between 2-3 pm today, Bayonne may not. That's why they test folks, as last time they ran the test sirens they were barely audible in Bayonne. The good news is we DID hear them here in Jersey City. So that sound you hear today (and tomorrow in Kearny, East Newark and Harrison) is just a test......we hope.

But if you're gonna go, get there early for the 5 pm parade as hundreds of thousands of spectators are expected to attend. The parade starts at 79th Street and Bergenline Ave in North Bergen (Entrance to James Braddock Park) and ends at 43rd street and Bergenline Ave in Union City.

Grand Marshalls of this year's parade are Javier Vasquez and Sonora Matancera.

Union City Flu

Hooo man, sometimes the headlines are as much fun as the tags.

The Robert Waters School in Union City has been confirmed with a case of H1N1 swine flu. In a letter sent home with students, the school district said the school would be closed until May 26th. 12 students are reported to have what are being called 'flu-like' symptoms.

Dateline Union City: Two morons broke into a Union City all-girls Jewish school and placed a burning cross on a desk. Yes, a cross. The Bnos Sanz School on New York Avenue was vandalized last night around 9:30 pm.

Seriously you two, maybe YOU should be spending more quality time IN school learning and not vandalizing when you're vandalizing incorrectly. Burning crosses are supposed to inspire fear in black families, swastikas are the symbol of hate for Jewish people. All you two have done in your EPIC FAIL is to show what mental midgets you are. Real vandals are laughing at you.

Police tried to wake him up with flashers, that was no good. They tried tapping on the glass and that was no use. Finally they opened the the door and shined a flashlight in his face to which Mr. Maldonado replied "Shut that &@#^$&$^! flashlight off. I'm sleeping". Apparently he meant it as he then got into an altercation with the Jersey City po-po and was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and DWI.

We salute you "Mr. asleep at the wheel in the middle of the road with a beer in your hand not wanting to be disturbed guy", like the ad says, a real man of genius.

Woe be to the legislators who do the right thing to address the 'senior driving' incident like we had in Union City yesterday

Moises Calo, 28, of Bergenfield was run down in Union City and killed by the wayward car of senior driver Harry Pierce, 80, of Union City. Pierce lost control of his car on 8th Street, hit four buildings, five parked cars and sadly, hit Calo, killing him by pinning him between 2 cars.

It is the opinion of the Jersey City Desk that all, yes ALL seniors 75 and over should be retested every year to keep their driving privileges. We see far too many of these types of situations again and again and again. But woe be to the state or federal legislator who would ever dare to speak up on this and take the lead. They'd be out of a job the next election cycle as the AARP and other senior-interest lobbying groups would have their heads. This is too bad.. For the sake of everyone else, they should be retested yearly.

Welcome Jersey City, to yet another blog about our community

Only this one will be a tad different than you're used to. Here's how it works. We have a crack news team, interns, a traffic copter, and a Friday night music series. Johnny talks mess, you respond (at least we hope you'll respond) and we go from there.

Johnny got into Jersey City all of two days ago but that won't stop him from pretending he knows everything there is to know about Jersey City, Bayonne, Hoboken, Union City, Weehawken, Kearney and Newark, our towns of interest. We'll also have fun jabbing NYC in the ribs from time to time as we put aside the romance of the Big Apple and expose the maggoty apple parts from the other side of the Hudson River.

We'll openly root for Rutgers football like we used to do for Eastern Michigan back when the staff here ran the Ypsi City Desk (and you can get a good idea of what's coming by checking out that site). Rutgers does tend to win a lot more games than Eastern Michigan ever did. Johnny is going to order a Rutgers shirt later today in fact to be a part of the home team. We'll cover the Devils but do know Johnny is a die-hard Detroit Red Wings fan and still hasn't forgotten 1995.

We'll also put you to bed every night with an open thread where you are free to talk as much crap as you can.
