Do we have your attention. As much as Johnny and the crew like to have fun with big snowstorms, Tuesday is serious business. Accuweather, Wunderground, our good friend Weather Willy, and the National Weather Service have all begun calling for huge piles of snow and blizzard conditions. One forecasting service is saying, well, it's incredible. The call right now is 14-20" but some are easing that upwards of 24" inches with that one service calling for areas of northwest New Jersey to get 30+ inches of snow. All this snow (NWS has NYC pegged for 18 currently") will be accompanied with 30-40mph winds with gusts of 50-60 possible. It will be a LONG storm. Starting very late Monday night and ending very late Tuesday night.
If you need to set up care for a senior or older relative, or get to the store tomorrow instead of with the panic shoppers on Monday, make your plan on working from home Tuesday or just get a strategic parking spot, now is the time.

We have to think the pros outweighed the legal cons on this one
Justin Casquejo, you rock man! Justin, for those of you unfamiliar with this area's newest folk hero beat the NYPD, the Port Authority rental cops, and two security companies on his trip Sunday up to the top of the spire on the new World Trade Center to you know, just snap some pictures and hang out. Just how did he do it? Read on:
Casquejo allegedly found an opening in the barbed-wire fence that rings the heavily guarded site and then wasn't questioned by a union elevator operator on a 4 a.m. ride to the 88th floor.
Casquejo next walked up a set of stairs to the 104th floor, where he encountered a sleeping security guard..."

By now you know it's going to snow again tonight
Some predictions have us under another 10" of white stuff by tomorrow morning. Some say it'll just be 5-8" (some consolation). By now you've made plans for it and are ready for round two.
But have you heard about Saturday? Yeah for once it might merit a trip to the store. You know those computer models they have for storms? They seemingly all vary this far out but you might just want to listen to this anyway even if you don't ever trust the weatherman.

New film called 'Ghost Exchange' focuses on Jersey City helping provide an electronic backbone for Wall St.
Billions of securities transactions every day make it possible for Wall St. to do it's job. Without the data flowing through server farms as big as football fields the entire financial system would grind to a halt pretty quickly. More and more these servers handling billions of trades are done here in Jersey City as well as Weehawken and Secaucus:
The story notes that the headquarters for Direct Edge, the third largest U.S. stock exchange, is located in Jersey City. Equinix, a data center that is the primary facility for the Chicago Board Options Exchange and Direct Edge, is located in Secaucus. And Saavis, a data center that is a primary facility of BATS Global Markets, is located in Weehawken.

Maybe Sigmund Freud was wrong in the case of NJ Transit driver George Simpson
Maybe a tunnel isn't just a tunnel.
George had most likely driven through the Lincoln Tunnel many times in his two and one half years as a bus driver for NJ Transit. Probably a few times through the Holland Tunnel too. Who knew all the while forbidden fantasies were on the boil? Well on June 24 Simpson (and there's no good way to say this) decided he could *ahem* handle his job of driving the bus through the busiest tunnel in America all while bopping the bologna. A librarian who was sitting near the front of the bus took copious amounts of video of the lewd act. She turned it over to NJ Transit who broomed the perv as soon as they saw it and issued a louder than usual apology that something like this could happen.
For his actions Simpson was charged yesterday in Weehawken Township Municipal Court with causing or risking widespread injury or damage.
He also faces charges of lewdness and reckless driving.
If he gets any jail time his roommates are just gonna love hearing what he's in for. There's going to be a new game called 'Bus Driver and the Warden's Wife' is Johnny's guess. You can guess who'll be wearing the dress.
We didn't see Sandra Bullock nor Keanu Reeves behave like this in Speed and we shouldn't see in in NJ Transit busses. NJ Transit will now be forced to put a 'No rubbing the rhubarb' clause in the employment agreement. Happy now George?

You can't beat free and that's just what NJ owned commuter ferries hitting Jersey City and Weehawken are
Free ferry service, the best kind short of a ferry with a cash bar, will begin running from Liberty State Park in Jersey City to lower Manhattan and from Weehawken headed to Pier 79 at West 39th St. in midtown. Thank you state of New Jersey. What a great area to live in. You can show up, get a free ferry ride to New York City, drink a cup of Good Morning America after baiting your hook and fishing your way across the Hudson. Bully!
The ferries will operate weekdays between 6 and 10 a.m. for riders headed into New York, and from 4 to 8 p.m. for riders headed back across the Hudson River.

First off, Happy Halloween!!
We'll have some Halloween fun today for sure but please, if you can help out in your city, be it Jersey City or Hoboken or Bayonne or NYC or wherever, please do. If you have power this morning you have it better than some of your neighbors. Look in on them, invite them over. Showers and a place to charge electronics can really help make a difference.

Happy Independence Day America! What's that? You want to spend it in Hoboken?
And Hoboken will host thousands of their closest friends as they do twice a year as the Macy's fireworks are set to blow at 9:23pm. First off, before we get to our friends we love to kid, Bayonne and Kearny also have great shows tonight:
Bayonne: A concert Wednesday with John Christian and Soiree will begin at 7 p.m. at 16th Street Park. There will be inflatable rides for children and fireworks are scheduled for dusk. bayonnenj.org/parks.htm or (201) 858-6122.
Kearny: The Fourth of July celebration Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Field on Belgrove Drive will feature cartoon characters, balloon art, mimes, a magic show and inflatable attractions. Now, if you're like many you'll hopefully be driving into Hoboken starting, mmmm, now. Johnny says hopefully as he has all of the Hoboken emergency channels on speed dial today on his listening device of doom. Driving? It's never been easier. You know Hoboken, EZ In-EZ Out. It was almost their nickname instead of The Mile Square City. You'd be surprised how many cars The Mile Square City can fit. If you insist on using the trains NJ Transit and PATH will accommodate you with extra trips but you'd seriously better get going. And once you get off the trains RUN for God's sake, RUN down to the river flailing your lawnchairs and food coolers to get the best vantage spots. Kind of like the raw army recruits in Bill Murray's platoon in Stripes running willy nilly down a muddy embankment into trees, logs, and in John Candy's case, into the underbrush.
FuHo officials remind the citizens on this hot and humid day no alcohol is allowed in public places but who are we to tell people in Hoboken how to drink? Also of safety note the "Who can sneak in the biggest firework into the crowd" contest has been cancelled after last year's unfortunate Denny Pratt tragedy.
Our old friend Sooty the Clown will once again be master of ceremonies over by the last part of Sinatra Drive that hasn't collapsed into the Hudson River for the kids 10 and under who love playing sparkler tag. Sooty reminds you the fun's not over when the sparkler goes out. Just listen to the cool noise it makes when it hits the river.
After the good people at Macy's (and a tip of the cap to them, they give pretty selflessly) give their amazing show it's time to get the hell out. The people in cars will disperse in mere minutes while the trains will back up. So if you came with a giant group why not make your departure through downtown Hoboken a memorable one? Line up and go all Stannis Baratheon and yell "Come with me and take this city!" and begin the charge to the PATH.
Have a good old American celebration and quality time with your fellow Americans today friends, if only for one day and one wonderful night.

Our neighbors to the north have built a bridge to somewhere
Hoboken and Weehawken have torn down the wall separating the two neighbors and a walkway along the Hudson River has been finished connecting the two bergs.
Said Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer of the project "This is an absolutely gorgeous connection between Hoboken and Weehawken." We find ourselves in an agreeable mood with local mayors this morning.
Now, you may be waiting for the usual snarky jokes about our neighbors whom we kid because we love. You'd think we'd talk about immigration from one to the other and poking fun at Fuho. Not the case here today.
Of course we do worry about the violence escalating between Weehawken's big gang "The Jets" and Hoboken's biggest gang "The Sharks" as they will have an easy place to rumble and settle things with singing and slick dance moves. But that's just us...

Weehawken has been discovered by Google Earth
It's true and because F-1 racing officials liked what they saw from the sky, they are having a Formula One race in 2013 through Weehawken and West New York with the NYC skyline as a backdrop. New Jersey's race will be the second race run on the Formula One calendar next year.

Weehawken and West New York are looking to raise the speed limit on city streets...
...in a BIG way.
Both municipalities have begun discussions to bring a Grand Prix race to their city streets. The F1 race could happen as soon as 2013.
According to the Wall Street Journal, on Tuesday, “the mayors of Weehawken and West New York, N.J., said . . . they are in early stages of talks with a group of investors led by Leo Hindery Jr., a former chief executive of the YES Network, to bring an F1 event to the area as soon as 2013.
Sounds cool. Johnny would go, would you turn out for an F1 race through the streets of West New York and Weehawken?

Things are returning to normal in Weehawken this morning
The case of the really bad horrid awful smell has been solved! Residents are no doubt breathing better AND breathing a sigh of relief as the pungent odor that residents and walkers were smelling near Boulevard East and 43rd Street has been found and dealt with by a team of firefighters who had to rappel down an embankment to get to the source of the effervescent issue.
It was a dead chicken.
Yes, all that for a dead chicken in a bag. You'd think local cats and or raccoons would clean that kind of thing up but for that bothersome lack of opposable thumbs.
Carry on Weehawken, and remember, keep those chickens in your yard lest you contribute fowl to foul air.

A good time for a good cause: The Taste of Weehawken
Next Tuesday afternoon at the Food Court at Lincoln Harbor the Taste of Weehawken will take place to raise money for the community:
The tasting raises about $20,000 a year and helps keep the library’s programs afloat. The programs range from computer classes for senior citizens to book readings for toddlers and everything in between.

The tasting raises about $20,000 a year and helps keep the library’s programs afloat. The programs range from computer classes for senior citizens to book readings for toddlers and everything in between.

If you are planning on heading to Hoboken for the Macy's fireworks here's some news you can use
People of Jersey City and outlying areas, if you are planning on taking in the Macy's fireworks from somewhere along the river in Hoboken, NJ Transit has some good tips on how to get there with the least amount of hassle. For Jersey City residents heading up to FuHo (And the Jersey City suits say our waterfront won't really have the most optimum viewing as that will actually be Weehawken and Hoboken) that'll mean taking the PATH train but elsewhere NJ Tranist trains will be your best bet.
Now if you have too much to drink in FuHo or become some kind of public nuisance and get arrested, try not peeing on their fingerprint machine.

No information can be given other than to say, well not much, not his name, rank or serial number. All Weehaken PD are saying is that "It's just a flesh wound". To this news we're grateful.

Minutes long crime spree in Union City and Weehawken is thankfully over
According to police in several jurisdictions, Kevin Felder is one enterprising crook. Kevin, a Jersey City guy, began his minutes long crime spree with a mask and pellet gun in Weehawken at Peter Street and Park Avenue accosting a person returning home from work. Felder demanded money and a cell phone. The victim handed over $300 bucks and couldn't find their cell phone. Seeing as how Felder is a busy crook with places to go and people to rob, he took off. Magically the Weehawken victim found their cell phone and dialed 911, like ya do. Moments later Felder was off to Union City where at that point another robbery on 39th Street had just taken place, and the description of the perp was amazingly close to that of the crook in the Weehawken theft. Union City police saw Felder, who then declared his innocence by running but was captured by the nimble Union City po-po.
Mr. Felder will be charged in both cities with robbery, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. Send cards and letters to Felder in care of the Hudson County jail in Kearny.

Weehawken firefighter has a 32 floor Florida condo tower all to himself
Johnny finds all this stuff so you don't have to.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a ginormous condo tower of hundreds of units all to yourself? Weehawken firefighter Victor Vangelakos can tell you what it's like. Vangelakos purchased a condo unit in the 32 story Oasis Condominiums in Fort Myers Florida. He planned on using it for vacations until he retired in a few years and then was going to live full time there. Just one issue, no other sales in his high rise went through and a few pending sales were even transferred to a second 32 story Oasis unit right next door. Vangelakos and his family are all alone as the bank for whatever reason refuses to transfer his purchase to the second high rise.
What are some of the eerie happenings you deal with when you have an entire building to yourself?
* During the day the silence is deafening.
* At night, the family sometimes hears people on the grounds or even inside the building itself
* Late one night somebody banged on their door
There are a few more strange things to get used to in such solitude but you'll have to read the rest of the Vangelakos' story here.

Late night open thread
A simply AMAZING show put on by Macy's tonight. Awesome in its audacity of THAT many shells. You'd worry some cool shots and shells could get lost in the sheer number, but it was all so well done.
Perhaps the wildest part of a wonderful evening was the Oklahoma Land Rush that let loose on the Hudson River the moment the fireworks had burst their last shell. It was insane people. Big boats, little boats, sailboats, boats with no lights and all these boats either creating or getting wailed by the wakes running in every direction. THAT was worth seeing. So many wayfaring seafamilies almost met their end in Davy Jones' Locker on the Hudson.
Here is some video taken by Johnny himself (Note his attempt at hilarity for blaming a stupid American flag for ruining a perfectly good Independence Day by blocking his shot) from his vantage point on the Hudson tonight especially for you the Jersey City Desk reader. We have some excellent other video we hope to share with you in the upcoming days.
