Oh what a great article. Johnny wishes he'd written and done the Photoshopping on this one. Beth Mason's dog was attacked by either a Rodent of Unusual Size out of the Princess Bride or a possum or giant-ass raccoon. Most people would simply not walk their dog where wildlife lives up to its name but being a city counsellor Mason is demanding action from the highest offices in Hoboken.

Our good friends at at the Mile Square View sure busted Beth Mason in Hoboken!
Uncovering over 300 incidents of campaign violations, and now Mason is facing up to $2.6 million in fines. Oh that's juicy as the Hoboken gadfly gets hers. The MSV tells us:
Yesterday's breaking story on Beth Mason's campaign violation turns out to be only the tip of the iceberg. Media reports initially limited the Mason family mess to the 2011 Beth Mason for council campaign but as it turns out more violations come from the 2009 Beth Mason for Mayor campaign.
Among those featured in the violations are Beth Mason's husband, Richard Mason of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and long time Masonista political operative Ines Garcia Keim, both listed as Treasurers.

Our final score: Fulop 7, Independents 2, Healy 0
Maybe that's why Beth Mason over in Hoboken attempted a clumsy backtrack and threw a pittance of cash and prizes towards His Excellency Steve Fulop a few days ago. She could see what was coming.
As we said last night the last Healy backers are gone. With the exception of Ward C, where Healy-then-Fulop ticket member Nidia Lopez lost to Rich Boggiano, and in Ward D where Michael Yun dusted Healy supporter Sean Connors (he once called Steve Fulop "un-American") Team Fulop won every ward. Fulop's at-large candidates, Joyce Watterman, Daniel Rivera and Rolando Lavarro ended the council career of Viola Richardson and defeated Sean Connelly. In Ward A Frank Gajewski, part of the Fulop team, bested former superintendent of schools Charles Epps (Those girls are evil). Ward F is stuck with the unfortunate wordsmithing of Diane Coleman. Ward B wasn't even close with Khemraj “Chico” Ramchal defeating Esther Wintner.
So there you go. Things are going to look a lot different July 2nd after the hangovers subside. Certainly Fulop will get just about anything he asks for. On paper (or computer screen) that looks and sounds great. But this IS Jersey City and of course anything is possible. We think Fulop will get a honeymoon but what length we can't say. We do think the first two or three initiatives and whether they are divisive or common-sense fixes will help set the honeymoon timeline. There's a huge budget mess right off the hop, just like a stinking fish left by Healy in Fulop's chair June 30 on his way out the door.
It's Jersey City and anything is possible.

There is still time to go see the remaining embers of Mayor Healy's time in office flitting about outside the Jersey Journal offices

Hizzoner is on his way to crashing towards the finish line in a spectacular flame-out over changing his story about super happy drunk time on the porch and is now pointing the finger at three mysterious Hispanic girls. The heat from that stupid answer grows and grows. Know what Healy does? Gets mad that Fulop uses it. Mayor, when you mention the three girls to the paper of record don't get mad when people talk about your suddenly new version of events.
Said Healy “I’m done talking about something that happened nine years ago.”
Apparently you're not. Please continue. We liked the part where you allegedly called Nidia Lopez "baby". We're sorry for some of the good people on your ticket who care very much about Jersey City like Dan Levin are getting broadsided with this.

The Grafix Avenger tipped us off below that big money in Hoboken is actually trying to influence the Jersey City mayor's race. Grafix Avenger puts a handy bow on top of the $46K number by pointing out it is a full 7% of Healy's contributions. One wonders what Mason was hoping to get for her $46K. Election day dawns clear, crisp and full of suspense
Who will become the New Jersey governor? Will Mason and Zimmer draw enough votes from each other to allow Brinkman to sneak in and snatch the mayorship of Hoboken? The mayors of Kearny and Secaucus will also be delivered by voters today.
Will the city initiative in Jersey City, Proposal "P" pass? Proposal P as you recall is the citizen initiative that takes accused city government scofflaws and hangs then from their britches off the Colgate Clock for 48 hours and at the end of that time they are given a rowboat, two oars, a days supply of food and pointed by the Port Authority towards the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and told to keep rowing and don't look back.

Nathan Brinkman sure didn't pull any punches yesterday
Hoboken mayoral candidate Nathan Brinkman sure stirred the pot yesterday with his ideas on how to better serve the people of Hoboken. We here at the Jersey City Desk love people willing to hit the hornet's nest with a stick and Brinkman sure did that:
"That’s how it is that our Chief of Police right here in Hoboken makes more money than the Commissioner of Police of that big city across the river – New York City. Does that make ANY sense to anybody in this room?"
Awesome, calling out the pay of the Chief of Police.
Some of Brinkman's ideas on transparency were a little boilerplate these days; putting proposed legislation online 72 hours before voting on it and a database of all city contacts and their specifics. However going the next step and doing the same thing with Hoboken city employees by name, job title/description, and compensation package, including health and pension benefits certainly sends a strong message as to what kind of mayor Brinkman would be.
The Jersey City Desk has yet to hear Mayor Dawn Zimmer, or Beth Mason or any other candidate come out and act as if they are willing to swat the hornet's nest. Are they offering more of the same or do they have real ideas about how to take on real challenges the city of Hoboken is facing?

Nathan Brinkman WILL be running for Mayor of Hoboken
Co-Founder of the Hoboken Republican Club will be running for mayor. He filed the necessary signatures and will join Dawn Zimmer, Beth Mason, and Patricia Waiters in the bare knuckles battle for top office of the Mile Square City.
Brinkman said in a press release the reason he's running is quality of life issues in Hoboken. He said taxes are too high, city government spends too much and transparency of the mayor's office is severely lacking.
It will be interesting to see with all the Democrats running if they don't cancel out some votes and possibly help put Mr. Brinkman over the top.

The Hoboken mayor's race is filling up fast
Besides current mayor by default Dawn Zimmer (and she warned you people Cammarano was no good), second ward councilwoman Beth Mason, Frank Raia a former Board of Education trustee, Hoboken resident Patricia Waiters who STILL supports Cammarano, are all in. Possibly (be still our fluttering hearts) Nathan Brinkman will be entering the race. All petitions to run for Hoboken Mayor and to get needled by the Jersey City Desk are due tomorrow, September 16th by 4 pm.

Minor league baseball, in Hoboken? It's a pipe dream for now BUT
We can have fun trying to come up with a name unique to the mile square city. 2nd Ward Councilwoman Beth Mason was recently waxing poetic about her ideas for development of the northwest corner of the city when the idea of building a minor league baseball park came up. So, what might they or you call this team?
