Johnny's gotta break some bad news -- The heat wave will last a week

Starting today friends we have to be extra vigilant checking in on the elderly and more vulnerable of our citizens AND our pets! This heat wave, with Sunday temperatures being the hottest in forever with heat indices into the 110º range could last into NEXT Monday.

So be a good neighbor/citizen and check on those who might really be under the strain of the weather. Remember, you may need this very help when you're older.

Cooling centers are open in Jersey City during this mini heat wave

The humidity later today will push the feels like temperatures into the 100º's and Jersey City has cooling centers available for the next couple days. Follow this handy link to find one near you and make sure you check up on the elderly and vulnerable adults on days like these and bring those pets inside and give them access to plenty of water.

Summer's here (with a vengeance!)

Mid 90's today kids with a heat index into the 100's. Same for tomorrow and Friday. Let's take care to look in on those most vulnerable during this heat wave. If you have any at-risk seniors in your life PLEASE let them know about community cooling centers and the like. Fans can do a lot but sometimes more help is necessary for a few days. Also, please take care of any animals you can help in this heat. Lots of water for your outdoor pets and please consider bringing them inside. Johnny goes around at night sometimes in his neighborhood putting out big metal water dishes for stray animals on these super hot days. We're not saying you have to do the same thing but let's be conscious of our animal friends shall we?

On hot days having your windows or top down on your ride playing loud music is an American tradition. It's practically a birthright. With the choices of hundreds if not thousands or great jams you can play to look and sound uber cool with the volume up, The Run D.M.C. song 'Christmas in Hollis' is simply not one of them.

The Egypt festival is over at Journal Square and we're guessing it will feel a lot like Cairo today so what great ambience. Other than that, stay cool peeps.

Pass the tanning butter

OK, it's hot now, it'll stay hot through Friday. Wednesday and Thursday will be special HELL DAY events with the mercury lapping at 97º. Do make sure your pets are taken care of, make sure elderly family members and elderly friends are looked in on. Call the city and ask about cooling centers. We just checked the City of Jersey City's website and even if you search on the term 'cooling centers' you get no results. That should change. The city runs them, the city should have this information on their website. Johnny's won awards at web design, it's not that hard to make that information available on the site.
