Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with KELLY HOGAN!

This song evokes so many memories for Johnny. It's a great song but when you can make an extra connection because it reminds you of many things and times in life, well that gets it on the Music Series. A 70's song coming from the neighbor's pontoon in the old neighborhood, a great country song coming in loud and clear (with none of that annoying channel drift) on an AM radio station at night while lying in bed with his transistor radio on WRVA Richmond Virginia or WSM in Nashville.

On a side note, Silica Gel, don't eat that.

From the terrific album "I Like to Keep Myself in Pain" here are the song stylings of Ms. Kelly Hogan and 'Haunted'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with KELLY HOGAN!

The gal with the golden voice, Kelly Hogan because sometimes Johnny just likes a good country song. This song, 'Plant White Roses' was originally done by Magnetic Fields and it evokes a Saturday night show down at Renfro Valley in Mt. Vernon Kentucky.

So good. From her recent album I Like to Keep Myself in Pain here is Kelly Hogan and 'Plant White Roses'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEKO CASE!

We haven't had Neko on in quite a while so why not tonight? Why not indeed. Johnny once heard Neko say this song, 'Red Tide,' was her sort of breakup song with the Pacific northwest, her home for many moons.  Once again, and as always, Kelly Hogan is amazing on backup vocals on this track.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with KELLY HOGAN!

There's nothing better than sitting in a small club watching a big talent. Such would be the case here with the ridiculously underrated Kelly Hogan singing Johnny's favorite cut by her, 'Gone' kicking off the Music Series in 2014.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with KELLY HOGAN!

Touring in support of her first album in ten years Kelly Hogan will perform along with other fantastic singers such at Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tift Merritt tomorrow night at the City Winery as part of the John Wesley Harding's Cabinet of Wonders show. It is so very nice to hear Kelly Hogan bust out some new takes on some solid songs. Hers is a voice that simply takes Johnny to a place in his mind, an intimate bar/club with a singer with a voice too great for the room and an obvious love and appreciation of music history. She's just aces. Her new album breaks on June 5th and is entitled 'I Like To Keep Myself In Pain' on the Anti- label (The same people who work with that nice red-headed gal).

Atlanta's by birth, Chicago's by choice here is Kelly Hogan with a song off of the new album 'Plant White Roses'

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with KELLY HOGAN!

Oh the terrific Kelly Hogan and the heartbreaking song 'Gone', but done in that awesome rocking bar kind of way.

Rock on Kelly, you're a gem

So, Johnny is reading his new copy of Time Out New York

And, since he saw Neko Case's name on the cover no doubt in advance of her show at the Beacon Theater Monday, he flipped right to that page. It was there he saw an error so egregious about Ms. Case by writer Sophie Harris we had to get into the newsroom and tap off a correction. Ms. Harris claims that the New Pornographers, Case's side project while not on tour herself which she did long before there were New Pornographers to speak of, was the "Band that launched Case".

Dear lord where to begin. We'll just be polite and tell you kids to do your own research on this and tell you she's toured with several groupings including the one she's with now, fantastic one she's touring with now, and that she was an item long before she cut any tape with the New Pornographers.

Johnny can barely run THIS dump let alone correct and edit Time Out New York.....

Big music news thrillseekers, Neko Case at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square April 13th, and 14th

Of course Johnny was a weasel and didn't announce this until he got his tickets (for the April 14th show) but really, this tour was announced only yesterday. Neko will be touring for her new 'Middle Cyclone' record (yes, record, we're old school here) which is due out March 3rd. We've heard one track off of it and it's very very good. If you've never heard Neko's music we highly advise a trip to the Nokia Theatre, she's got a voice like no other and her arrangements are tip top music fans. Click here for the link on the tour enjoy an early morning song on Johnny and the staff....

An actual chance to promote Neko Case's new single from her upcoming album 'Middle Cyclone' AND help kitties and puppies? We're in!

Neko's record label released the first single off her upcoming new disc (or record, we're old school here) and have been told any blog that will carry it, they'll donate $5 to the Best Friends Animal Society. Hell, this place is practically a shrine to Neko anyway, we're very very happy to do so. Neko's new CD will be called 'Middle Cyclone' and will drop March 3rd. Here is the first single called 'People Got A Lotta Nerve' and as expected Johnny really loves it. But what's important is for YOU dear reader to decide. Give it a whirl:

People Got A Lotta Nerve - Neko Case

We'd also like to give some love to the blog we heard about this wonderful promotion at 'Cable and Tweed'. They had an image there we're guessing could be the new album art and we're gonna run with it until we get our hands slapped.

Rock on, Neko!

As always you can use the Links that Don't Stink and go right to Neko's site or find her on MySpace.

Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with NEKO CASE!

Yeah, get used to this name here. Neko is simply one of a kind. Johnny twice drove from Ypsilanti to Cleveland to see Neko at the Beachland Ballroom. If you EVAH get the chance to see her, DO SO (of course wait until after Johnny has his tickets before getting yours, as is proper). If you're wondering who Kelly Hogan is on our links list, why she's standing to Neko's left, singing all purty into the microphone. The rapport Kelly and Neko have with an audience is amazing and often times, damned funny. By the way, that's Jon Rauhouse on pedal steel guitar.
