Jets and Giants football GAMEDAY!

Hey hey, you've waited an entire offseason for your favorite area football teams to get going and today is that day! We'll start with the Giants because they would seem to have a better game with more meaning today:

The Giants are in the Jerry Jones Funhouse where anything, however improbable can and does happen to opposing teams. The Dallas Dome is fast becoming 3 Rivers Stadium/Heinz Field for the Stoolers getting magic plays and really odd calls. The "luck" the Steelers actually moved stadiums, funny how that happened. The Giants it would appear have more going for them than Dallas right now. No QB in Big D could well spell doom if the Giants can stop the Dallas run. Ezekiel Elliot must be given a rude welcome to the NFL because no backup the Cowboys use is going to beat the G Men on his own throwing. Stop. The. Run. We're guessing the Giants offense, unpredictably spotty at times last year may well be the same today but we think Eli Manning can move Big Blue more often and longer distances and they'll score just enough to get a win to start the season.

The Jets today face a team in Cincinnati that no doubt stewed in the rarefied juices of their pattymeltdown at home vs. the Steelers in last year's playoff game. They can't not have heard the jokes, the crying Jordan face memes, the Andy Dalton criticisms, the Vonteze Burfict commentary and will be ready to burst forth at the New Meadowlands today at 1pm. That can cut both ways. We know the Jets are at home but if they can keep Cincy close the first quarter and a half and draw them into a bone crushing running/field position game they have a chance. Drag Cincinnati into the deep water in the fourth quarter might be their best and only hope. The Jets are already beat up and it's Johnny best guess they won't score a lot today, they may even need like 3 field goals and a safety to get it done. Barring a Bungles collapse and bad behavior hangover we just don't see the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS winning today. Johnny hopes he's wrong but...

New Jersey Jets football gameday!

With the Giants winning Thursday over the Washingtons, the Jets are the only local game in town and what a game. The reeling Philadelphia Sheagals venture north to the Meadowlands to see which city the Pope blessed better.

Genius Chip Kelly has turned the Eagles into a cornucopia of fail. His movement based offense is being run by the only player in NFL history whom Bernie Kosar could beat in a footrace. He shipped away all his best playmakers for reasons open to debate but in general turned a team from one getting better and maybe even getting ready to contend, into the East Philadelphia Browns. Oh, wait, the Browns have a win. The Sam Bradford Experience is a baaaaad trip kids. Twice as many INT's as TD's after two games is no way to play QB....for long. Darren Sproles is always a danger. He can simply go off and make plays that suck the life out of a defense.

If the Jets weren't so banged up we'd say this could prove relatively easy. No Revis is certainly not a reason for hope (he's listed as questionable on ESPN as of press time) as well as other injured Jets and in the NFL that is a great equalizer. Look up game manager in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Thus far that has worked well. Fitzpatrick's best friend, running back Chris Ivory is a game time decision. If he can't go suddenly a nickel back or safety shifts over to double Brandon Marshall. Fitzpatrick's task does become that much tougher.

Johnny thinks the Jets can still handle the Eagles today but it won't be pretty. Like the fans in the stands it'll be a fistfight. The Magic 8 Ball sees a low scoring game.

One more time with the Sanchez fumble from last night

Because it's just not often you see a highly paid QB get blasted into the turf by the ass of his own lineman, and then have the resulting fumble returned for a touchdown (New England scored 35 points in the second quarter while holding the ball for just over two of the fifteen minutes involved). This clip is an instant classic....of fail.

Jets and Giants football Gameday!

And if you're NOT going to Liberty State Park for the free Aretha Franklin show and DO tend to worry about your favorite football teams on Sunday let's talk gridiron.

The Jets are home for a 1pm matchup with NFC powerhouse San Francisco. The Jets are largely up against it as what the 49ers do so well are troublesome for the Jets. The Niners run and run well. They have a great TE in Vernon Davis and some solid wide receivers. The Jets who recently have built their reputation on a shut down defense are currently ranked #21 in the NFL in total defense. When it's broken down to only rush defense the Jetropolitans are a poor 27th. No doubt Jim Harbaugh who kept his team in Ohio to practice this week will find some way to make his running game effective. More bad news for the Jets whose offense has rebounded from a moribund pre-season is that the 49ers employ a very good defense. 8th against the rush and 11th in scoring defense means the Jets are gonna have to go to the air today. Mark Sanchez is going to have to keep his composure, not turn the ball over and not get rattled. Still we see the San Francisco 11 emerging victorious today, yes even on the road.

Fearless Forecast:
San Francisco 23
New Jersey Jets 16

The G-Men are down in Philly where they blew up the Chicken Man lo those many years ago. It's a huge early NFC East test and will be shown live in living color at 8:20 tonight. Interesting matchup. The Giants are dinged up pretty well and Michael Vick can't stay healthy or complete a majority of passes to players on his own team. Intrigued yet? The Giants defense will have to stand tall as will the specialty teams for the Giants. It always seems if they play poorly against Philly the special teams let them down in some capacity. While Eli might not have his top guys catching balls tonight, he has shown through the years he can work with about any receivers and make them better. That doesn't mean he's gonna throw for 350 yards and 3 scores BUT it is an outside possibility any time he plays. Johnny thinks the difference will be that Tom Coughlin will outcoach Andy Reid, outprepare him and have his team ready from the word go. The Giants will put themselves in position to be successful and the Sheagals will have trouble doing just that.

Fearless Forecast:
New Jersey Giants 28
Sheagles 20

If you're kicked out of an NFL game peeps, get ready to go back to school

The NFL has decided that drunken louts, or maybe just regular louts need some schoolin'. Should a patron get kicked out of the New Meadlowlands (again, we're not getting paid to promote a corporate entity), or the Patriots home digs you'll need to attend a class and pass a test to be allowed the "privilege" of seeing NFL football live.

Look, we're all seen people who make us uncomfortable at sporting events. We've seen it again and again and again.

Is a class really going to make someone behave better?

But Johnny, the NFL says if you don't take the class you can't go to another game. Yeah, right, pull this one, it plays jingle bells. If you want tickets to a game yet you can't access your regular season tickets because the privilege of paying The Ballclub a personal seat license has been revoked there are a myriad of ways to get them, no class needed (hey a little joke there).

Again, the NFL uses fairy dust on a real problem and then tells everyone they are out ahead of said problem. No, they are not. Johnny quit going to NFL games at the end of 2008 after years of enduring years of loutish and drunken stupidity (In Detroit and Cleveland) which became so bad one afternoon in Cleveland Browns Stadium he physically had to punch out drunken toads who became violent after using racial slurs after pouring beer on Johnny, his wife and an African-American couple next to them. Getting to the point where you must physically protect yourself and your wife was the last straw. Think those group of guys who pulled that are having any trouble seeing Browns games?

It ain't worth it, class or not. The NFL has a horrible problem they refuse to address, booze inside the stadium after hours spent drinking outside. When you want to discuss THAT NFL then Johnny may consider going back to an NFL game. The inmates run the asylum at these events and threatening a fanbase with a bad behavior class will change nothing. It only gives the NFL a fallback.

So, Tim Tebow is a New Jersey Jet

Which gives the Jets two quarterbacks that can't throw. In fact, a case could be made that Johnny might be the most accurate passer in Hudson and Essex counties. Tell us what you think Jetropolitan fans, was Tebow needed? Wanted? Necessary? An asset?

A curious move to say the least, tell us how you think Tebow can best help the Jets.

I's a SPORGY today!

That's sports orgy for those of you who don't follow jockular lingo. First off, a great rivalry game over at The Rock at 1pm as the resurgent Devils play the hated Sillydelphia Flyers. Zach Parise and Patrick Elias lead Los Diablos in points and have been en fuego lately. A local commentator in the Devils post-game show the other night compared these two to Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin and Cindy Crosby. Johnny's not sue about that as he hasn't yet seen Parise and Elias cry for calls on the ice and hit players in the head from behind the protection of the referee like Crosby does.

Next up the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets play out in Seattle at 4 pm which, would normally be no problem as the Jets are playing decent enough football and the Seahawks are god awful this year under Mike 'Do you still stick chopsticks up your nose and bark like a walrus' Holmgren. That was until the National Weather Service in Seattle released this gem of a game time report: two inches of snow is expected this afternoon along with another quarter-inch of ice. Wind gusts could hit 38 miles an hour . Yes, Brett Favre is used to these conditions from his stay in Green Bay. The rest of the Jets may not be. They're gonna need to run run run. Weather is always a great equalizer.

Finally, tonight the Giants are are home against the Carolina Panthers in what will be a cold, bitterly cold blustery Meadowlands. In fact, the entire area tonight is under a wind advisory--West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Wind chill values as low as zero which will make passing a tad difficult. The Panthers are a big running team, as are the Giants IF Brandon Jacobs plays. As of right now he's listed as questionable. The stakes couldn't be higher, this game will decide home field advantage for the NFC playoffs.

Other things to watch for today:
Pittsburgh and Tennessee will play for the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs at 1 pm in Nashville.

Can the Cryin' Lions get a win this year? They have a chance vs a Reggie Bush-less New Orleans team at 1 pm in the Big Easy.

Miami is at hapless (But damned cold-subzero wind chills) Kansas City today as they try to keep pace with the Jets and...

...New England will be at home in snowy (3-5" during the game) Foxboro vs a "Oh god why must we play in the snow" Arizona Cardinals team.

Like we said, sporgy.
