The Jersey City Desk Action Weather Team is sorry to remind you about March coming in like a lion and so forth. Pretty dodgy weather coming our way from this morning into tomorrow. We'll start off with snow today and into tonight, 2-4" roughly. Then it gets nutty with rain, freezing rain, sleet and up to 1/10th of an inch of ice.
Needless to say the morning commute tomorrow will suck hard.

When you went to bed last night the weather said 1-3" on Monday...
Now they are using the word "BLIZZARD" for Monday into Tuesday. Don't believe Johnny? Here's the word from Accuweather:
A major winter storm will unfold across the Northeast early this week, eventually becoming an all-out blizzard over parts of New England and the New York City area.
So, there you have it. A snow bomb of at least a foot. So, by 7am tomorrow it'll be too late to get out from under it so if you have things to do today get 'em done!

Hey Jersey City, how would a statute like this grab you?
Brooklyn Councilman David Greenfield has an idea he's floating in NYC to cut down on property owners who simply refuse to clear their sidewalks (and note in the picture just whom owns that property) and Johnny personally would love to see this kind of thing adopted in Jersey City. Here's how Greenfield's plan would work:
"...Greenfield is proposing a law that would empower city-contracted laborers to shovel sidewalks that remain buried under snow, and then bill property owners $250 for the service.
If the bill becomes law, the city would hire more seasonal snow laborers, paying them $12 to $18 an hour to shovel sidewalks, the News reports. "My constituents were sick and tired of walking down the street and slipping and falling because some obnoxious homeowner has decided that they're exempt from cleaning their ice."
Pretty straightforward AND job creating. If you won't shovel the city will and YOU will pay. We like that.

If you live downtown, Ward E Councilwoman Candice Osborne says do not drive!
Osborne Tweeted out this morning the roads downtown in her Ward are glare ice and she's asking residents to stay off the road. You can't have Candice without 'ice', lol...
The problem as it is with so many communities locally is no salt. Jersey City has run out. Then the people plowing compound the issue (Remember, Johnny's got winters in Michigan's Upper Peninsula under his belt and knows this shit) by scraping snow and scraping down until there is nothing left but ice. Leaving the snow would have been a better plan in this case.
Johnny is kind of sad that not all Jersey City council members aren't on Twitter to send out such warnings or alerts to their constituents.

Jersey City's gonna get a poor grade on today's ice removal
Johnny took a nice looooong walk through neighborhoods and main streets and side streets and two things were clear; 1) The city gets a poor performance grade and 2) People, throw salt on your walks or chip away the ice. Yes, it IS your responsibility. If Steve Fulop and Candice Osborne want to continue their good work on the quality of life in regards to pedestrian traffic in and near downtown, the city needs a new or needs to prod the current sleeping compliance officer. When was the last fine the city ever gave out tickets for no snow removal or ice treatment?
Since a picture is worth a thousands words, here's a two thousand word essay to piss you off and maybe you'll call city hall. Note the ice outside One Evertrust Plaza. There is ice completely surrounding the sidewalks around the building. Women in heels came out of said building, hit the sidewalk and did do some slipping and sliding. Hmmm, maybe this caught One Evertrust by total surprise. Maybe word hadn't trickled back to Grounds HQ yet. Wait, what? Oh no. So the executives wouldn't have to slip and slide on their short walk to their vehicles they had a truck out salting the bejeesus out of the interior lot, leaving the residents of Jersey City to fend for themselves outside the fence. Just because you put up a fence does not absolve anyone of deicing their walks, shoveling their snow or making sure the sidewalk on their property is passable. If that were true America would be overrun by fence factories.

New show idea for TLC -- Ice Hoarders
Sure it's stupid and vapid, but so is most of TLC.
Pavarini-McGovern has begun hoarding ice across from their 110 First St. site, putting up the new horrid looking POS Building®. It'll sure be there at least until tomorrow.

OK so it's a blizzard
Yes, this storm has ballooned into a whopper and our fair city will be forced to pay a price. A foot of snow and 40-50 mph gusts starting in earnest tomorrow late afternoon. The storm is expected to last through eggs and bacons on Saturday. That's not what's important right now. The blizzard parade o' photos will no doubt be late Saturday or Sunday as your submissions trickle in. Email Johnny at the address listed down the page under his sassy picture. Who could ever forget Johnny's winner after the last blizzard:

NYC 's overpriced drinkslingers at the Darby now charge $2 for ICE
That's right, a $2 upcharge for an on the rocks drink. We get that Manhattan bars charge more for drinks. A Grey Goose vodka at the Darby is $13. We get that. But recently a patron noticed on his bill that an extra $2 was added for a drink on the rocks. Stunning.
Of course Patrick Robertson, general manager at the Darby tried to slough it off in the most horribly arrogant way we can think of. He said everyone does it AND:
"Clearly, this person doesn't go out much and doesn't know how things work," he said.
Ooooooooo, everyone smell Patrick Robertson, he thinks because they claim to give a bigger pour in a rocks drink vs a neat drink, he's Mr. Cool in trying ham handedly to blunt the criticism. So let's check Mr. Robertson's claim that this is the way things work:
*Audrey Saunders, the mixologist behind the Soho cocktail mecca Pegu Club, was simply appalled at the idea of charging for ice. Shame on any other bar/restaurant that actually subscribes to such a practice. Not only would we – NEVER - do such a thing, but NO reputable bar ever would either."
*Joe Santos, a manager at the Tribeca nightlife staple The Odeon said that he'd never heard of charging more for a drink served on the rocks. We charge the same for a drink whether it's served neat or on the rocks," said Santos. "A drink served up, like in a martini, yes, we charge more."
*"We get our ice from Okamoto Studios," Dutch Kills bartender Zachary Gelnaw-Rubin said. "It's crystal clear, no bubbles or impurities. It's hand-cut in a way that doesn't dilute the drink or alter the flavor." Yes, SPECIALTY ICE with NO upcharge.
Oops. Looks like Mr. Patrick Robinson is wrong. Maybe HE needs to get out more often and see how the city REALLY rolls.
