The snow is not going to let up anytime soon

If you were hoping for the day to improve so you could run out and get some things done, good luck with that. The snow arrived late but forecasters say it's still going to bring us 4-8" with it now looking like a heavier amount is more likely. Do be careful should to head out later after the snow stops tonight as the temperatures are going to bottom out and whatever melted over the last couple days is going to freeze up. That's a potential for a LOT of ice around here friends. Since it's dropping into the middle-teens tonight that means the salt on the roads and sidewalks is probably not going to help too much.

Here's an image of the Mill Creek rehab project downtown. Johnny saw the snow sticking to the safety netting (that Mill Creek employs yet many other contractors in Jersey City do NOT) making it look like some kind of eerie spider web. Cool beans.

Now that we know a blizzard is on the way...

#WinterStormNamath is gonna hit. It is. Now that we know we're gonna get at least a foot and most likely 18-20", what can you do today to prepare.

Are you low on gas? We're talking less than a quarter tank, not people who top up with already three-quarters of a tank. Don't do that unless you live in the sticks. You ned extra gas for a day if you get stuck to keep warm, not a week.

Check on the elderly or those who might not be able to get to a store today. Can you help them empty the stores with your friends and neighbors and lay in a few provisions? If you're a great citizen you can help with shoveling their walks after the storm.

Pets, pets cannot handle this type of storm like a 2-4" storm. This will have 50mph winds and two feet of snow in some places. Get the pets inside.

If you're from New Jersey put your windshield wipers on your car up before bed. If you're not from New Jersey, don't.

Double check the fuel in your generators now to prevent sadness later.

Plan on clearing your snow but do be safe about it. Don't be a heart attack victim. Maybe paying a neighbor kid 10 or 20$ could work out.

#WinterStormNachos is set to arrive in the tri-state area overnight as this nor' easter moves north up the coast. The Jersey City Desk Action Weather Team is predicting 3-5 inches of snow starting around midnight with morning bringing sleet and freezing rain. Our listening area shouldn't get much more than a light dusting of ice, certainly nothing like earlier this week. But just in case we do, Johnny will link this story to Wunderground so he can't get sued if you read this and go drive off the Turnpike and slide into a Burger King.

Winter Storm Cupid is intensifying, expect moar snowz

The National Weather Service has indicated that #WinterStormCupid could now drop upwards of 14" of snow and ice across parts of the Garden State tonight and tomorrow. The snow is expected to get here around midnight for Jersey City and the surround and once it gets going it'll get going fast and stick with us for a while:

Snow is expected to begin falling in New Jersey around midnight, and will continue throughout the entire day, impacting both the morning and afternoon rush hours, Pollina said. Bunker said the peak of the storm will be just in time for Thursday’s morning commute. The current winter-storm warning doesn't expire until 6 a.m. Friday.

Also of note for the surround, the temperatures are cold enough (No, reallllly?) for no icing to be associated with this storm, it'll start as snow and end as snow.

We're loathe to talk about the weather again but #WinterStormCupid cometh!

We've ALL had enough winter this year but Garden Staters when you remain tough and vigilant, the victory of April will be that much sweeter.

So yes, #WinterStormCupid (Of course Johnny is calling it Cupid and not the stupid other name the Weather Channel is using, it's almost Valentine's Day!) will arrive sometime tomorrow afternoon/early evening and bring upwards of 8 inches of ice, snow then more ice. Here's the word from the National Weather Service:

In a briefing issued at 4:30 p.m. today, the weather service's office in Mount Holly warned: "A strong coastal storm system is expected to impact the region starting Wednesday night & continuing into Thursday."

The storm could threaten New Jersey with "heavy snow, icing due to freezing rain, and coastal flooding," the weather service said, adding that "8+ inches of snow are expected where the heaviest snow band sets up."

Be brave New Jersey, be stronger than the winter storm.

If you can stay inside for a while today, do that.

The fog you see outside is freezing rain and the sidewalks and streets are skating rinks. No word from our mayor from his mobile office in a Jersey City plow truck but we have faith he's on top of things. JFK was shut down earlier due to a plane sliding off the runway so yeah, if a plane can slide out there so can you. Do be careful. This should change over to rain starting around 2pm. Then get your marketing done because after say 3pm tomorrow outside is going to be NO FUN. A HUGE blast of Arctic air will come in dropping air temps and wind chills below zero.

Here we go again, 1-3 inches of snow from tonight into Monday

No, the headline pretty much sums it up. More stinking snow and slush and ice and misery on the way into Monday.

Here's a New Year's resolution to help keep that cabin fever at arm's length

Newport Skates, the only outdoor, uncovered ice skating rink in Jersey City is open for business and offers a chance at some fun and most of all fresh air and not in a "It's 16 degrees this morning and I have to walk to the train to go to work." kind of way. Today would be a perfect day to lace 'em up and maybe go make some awesome wipeout videos of your closest friends and family for Facebook and Youtube.

The worst possible storm track is happening. By Monday night we'll have 10-14" of snow here in Hudson County. 40 mph wind gusts, and wind chills near zero. The snow will start slowly later this afternoon and really start in earnest this evening.
