That's right Scarlet Knight fans, the Knights are all the way down in sunny Florida tonight for an 8 pm kickoff vs. the nere-do-wells from Florida International.
The Scarlet Knights are fresh off of a 31-0 pasting of Norfolk State some 9 days ago while the FIU Golden Panthers are playing their first game tonight. At first blush you may think Rutgers would be prohibitive favorites tonight but FIU will cause the boys from Piscataway some problems with their passing attack. T.Y. Hilton a junior wideout had a down year in 2009 yet remains a big weapon for FIU. 6' 4" Greg Ellington is another Panthers threat in the passing game. Face it, when you can run a 6' 4" receiver on the field you have a chance.
A hot and humid Miami night awaits Rutgers down in Miami with gametime temps a muggy 80ยบ with the very real possibility this game may see some rain.
Johnny's Fearless Forecast: Rutgers has played a game and should have that advantage even though it's a road game. If Rutgers can keep their legs under them on a hot night they SHOULD win. Johnny says:
Rutgers 26
FIU 20

Rutgers football gameday!
Again we'll be brief this week. Rutgers shouldn't find Florida International too tough a nut to crack BUT, the Golden Panthers DID give Alabama a tussle at least for a little while last weekend. You can't sleep on them but drowsy may work. Small school Florida teams do seem to bring kids with speed to burn so again, Rutgers needs to guard against overconfidence. Another thing to lok out for is that hey say (Who is they?) a team improves the most between their first game and second game, and this will be FIU's second game.
Expect heavy doses of breakout running back Jourdan Brooks and old faithful Joe Martinek. If Rutgers can establish the run early it'll make freshman QB Tom Savage's much easier. He only had to throw 13 times last week and Johnny thinks he'll have to throw at least 20-25 times today. We're thinking Mohamed Sanu is gonna have a huge day if needed.
Again, don't get too overconfident but it should be a good day for football in Rutgersland. Kickoff is 5 pm in Piscataway.
Our Prediction:
Rutgers 31
FIU 20
