The blizzard that wasn't, #WinterStormWeatherChannel

Well now, wasn't that a lot of prep and fret for nothing? What, 9 inches down from 27? While Jersey City and most of the surround dodged a big winter bullet there are a lot of websites this morning asking how the prognosticators could get it so wrong. Johnny's gonna tell you about hype vs forecasting.

When meteorologists are trying to get a bead on a huge winter storm, especially a nor' easter, there is a lot of guesswork right up until the storm begins it's final path. They will try and prepare people, point out the possibilities and dangers. They will give you nothing but facts about the storm. They won't name it, they won't try and get you to participate in social media over it and they don't have a vested financial interest to hype the storm.

That's where the incredible failure of The Weather Channel comes in. They DO have a financial interest to hype a storm, first by naming it, then pumping it on Twitter and Facebook. They have shareholders, being owned by NBCUniversal and investment firms The Blackstone Group and Bain Capital. Why would they name storms unless it was some way to get you to come view their station or go to their website of Facebook page? Hype that storm, drive traffic. Hype it more, make sure people are using OUR hashtag. They would not do it simply for altruism.

Was this miss entirely on the Weather Channel? Of course not. But they sure seem to be the ones willing to hype weather over just reporting it, all for money.

OK Jersey City, let's share our snowmageddon pictures!

No doubt Johnny and the staff will be out taking pictures of the #blizzardof2015 and we're sure a lot of you will too. How about we all share our images on Twitter under the hashtag #JCSnow so we can see everyone's misery and great photographic eyes. Remember, winter storms DO NOT have names (it's why Johnny mocks the Weather Channel with names like #WinterStormNachos or this one, #WinterStormNamath) so just use #JCSnow.

Updates as conditions merit.

A Winter Storm Warning has now been posted for Hudson County and the surround for tomorrow

At the worst possible time for travelers, late tomorrow morning 4-6" of snow will fall in and around the Jersey City area. Anyone who needs to get out of town, this ain't no 1-3 as they were saying yesterday, this is now a serious storm. We're gonna call this one Winter Storm Milton Berle!

Winter Storm Marzipan will arrive around dawn tomorrow

And when Winter Storm Marzipan arrives she will be bringing 2-4" of fresh powder for Jersey City and the surround. The snow should be gone for the afternoon rush hour. Buck up though, later this week into the weekend brings temps in the upper 40's to near 50 by Friday.

Winter Storm Snow Elf will drop 3-5" of powder on us today

As Johnny mentioned on the Twitter yesterday, if The Weather Channel thinks it's OK to make up storm names the NOAA doesn't recognize so can he. Today's #WinterStormSnowElf arrived earlier than predicted so tack on a another couple inches through late this afternoon. Was 1-3" now it's 3-5".

Get out there and have some fun!

It's never too early to start thinking about Thanksgiving

Especially when a huge nor'easter could be bearing down upon us anytime from late Tuesday of next week to Thanksgiving morning. Will it be rain? Will it be snow? Will it be hail? Will it be toads and frogs? Forecasters don't know yet but they do say if this mess hits us it'll screw everything up from travel to parades (could be too breezy for the cool balloons) to the price of cranberries (Johnny has no idea, it just sounded good).

One meteorologist, Chuck U. Farley from down in Cape May, said this storm might bring about the end times.

So let's hope he's wrong...

Check back for more on this developing storm which the Weather Channel will irresponsibly name as soon as it produces wind.

We're going to get out ahead of the Weather Channel and name today's thunderstorms

This morning and this afternoon is Thunderstorm Martini and tonight's rain event is Thunderstorm Bathrobe. Since the Weather Channel tries to give any breeze much more than a fart a name, we decided to beat them to it. So be wary Hudson County and the surround, A Martini and a Bathrobe can make for one tough day at the office. If we can crowdsource upwards of $8 dollars for shipping and handling we can name the one tomorrow Thunderstorm Slippers.

Johnny smells a news roundup coming on

Lots to talk about but sadly today Johnny has little time to be in the offices.

*A storm that could cause some substantial coastal flooding will begin tonight and last into Thursday. This storm has the potential to drop 3-6" locally. Despite how The Weather Channel is being absolutely arrogant in naming storms unnecessarily, which has the potential to confuse people, the NOAA NOR  THE NWS DO NOT NAME WINTER STORMS. Winter storms DO NOT have names. Go screw yourself Weather Channel.

*A woman stole a cop car in Camden and drove it across the Ben Franklin Bridge into Philadelphia. When the guy she was with was being arrested, she then stole a Philadelphia PD car and took off. Click the link to watch the race through the streets of Philly.

* A group calling itself National Organization for Marriage has just used Tyler Clementi's suicide to try and push their narrow and unAmerican agenda. Nothing like invoking a dead person you never knew or met to try and score points.

*British scientists have reported out that the cause of the Hindenburg explosion was static electricity.

*The charges he hired a prostitute who spoke on camera against New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez appear to have been made up. Right wing blog Daily Caller, we're looking at you. Tucker Carlson is a little bitch isn't he?

*Finally today, yes, your commute DOES suck New Jersey.
