Sadly, a Jersey City police lieutenant was killed on the Turnpike stopping to help a motorist

Our best wishes to JCPD lieutenant Christopher Robateau's family as he was tragically killed early yesterday morning as he tried to assist another motorist:

The incident happened just after 6:30 a.m. near mile marker 104, city spokeswoman Kim Scalcione said. That would place the incident near Exit 14.

"We consider him on duty being that Lt. Robateau got out of his car to help someone else which is what we want all our officers to be doing all the time regardless of their location or time of day.," (Jersey City Mayor Steve) Fulop said on Facebook.

Showing off the best of the badge in a selfless act we're going to guess was second nature to him. Our city is lessened when we lose good people like Lieutenant Robateau. Again, best wishes to his family, friends, and the JCPD in their hour of mourning.
