Yes NHL fans of the tri-state area, Hockey Inc., better known as the Detroit Red Wings are in town for a game tomorrow in the Prudential Center and after they make that building their own on Sunday night they will set their sights on ravishing Madison Square Garden. Hide the children, the carnage is about to begin!!
Of course Johnny will be at both games signing autographs for kids in Red Wings togs before and after the games.

Someone put it very succinctly a few years ago: they said the Red Wings are the New York Yankees of hockey. Loved by many, hated by many, and when they're on the road, it's not uncommon to see more of their jerseys in the stands than the home team's jerseys.
Hey Jim, you've got that right. I am now living in Chicagoland and my presence is for the most part merely tolerated but conversation with true fans of the game will usually reveal a grudging respect. You can't argue with success. And I try to be gracious. ; )
And Johnny - I have officially decided the sound of the foghorn going off at Joe Louis Arena is my favorite sound of all time. Makes me SO happy!
And hey - how about that inter-conference play? Too bad there isn't more of it... Yet another Bettman epic FAIL.
I'm just happy as hell they are playing back to back games out here nonetheless, especially on a weekend. One some of the MANY Rangers TV promos about how great they are and why you should buy tickets you'd think 1994 was the only year NHL hockey was played. For someone who played maybe 3-4 seasons out here (Messier) and won but one Stanley Cup you'd think the Wings could do the same kind of thing with Bob Rouse lol.
You are right about the Yankees analogy Jim, both franchises are the gold standard of their sport anymore. If the Canadiens ever got to the point where they are cup contenders they can reclaim the NHL mantle.
I'm waiting patiently with other Wings fans who will no doubt be reminded about the Devils 1995 cup over the Wings. My favorite math equation at that point will come to light in that 11 > 3. I know from the crew at Letsgowings.com there will be a couple dozen Wings fans at the Prudential Center tomorrow night. Admittedly, it's a fantastic place to see a game played, far nicer than MSG, just without the history.
