Sadly, Jersey City has lost a hero

Pfc. Leroy DeRonde III of Jersey City was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 27 according to the Department of Defense. The report said DeRonde was killed when his unit was attacked by enemy forces in the Chak-E Warkdak District. DeRonde was assigned to the 125th Brigade Support Batallion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division out of Fort Bliss, Texas. 4 New York reports DeRonde's Facebook page said he he graduated from William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City in 2009.

Our thoughts and best wishes to Leroy's family and friends. It is always hard to lose an American serviceman or woman. When it hits this close to home it hurts even more. We will all be forever in his debt for his service and sacrifice.

When we lose brave and strong young men like Leroy we realize that in truth every day is Memorial Day and at the same time mankind would do well to remember the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:

“War is a poor chisel to carve out tomorrow.”
