OK Garden staters, where's the best place on the Jersey Shore to go?

Let's suppose Johnny has not yet been down to the famed Jersey Shore. Now, let's suppose that you, the loyal Jersey City Desk reader have. Where in your opinion is the best place to go? What are some of the better parts and better attractions to see? What is best out there to avoid?

Having grown up on the shores of Lake Michigan I wasn't that crazy about the Jersey shore but I did see a lot of it and can make some recommendations. I'd recommend Ocean City. It's got a very long boardwalk and it's a step up from the usual greasy racket. If you care to take a longer drive the best place to go would be Stone Harbor - it's got a great downtown with lots of very cool little shops and dining. Then since you've gone that far south anyway go the rest of the way to Cape May - also a great downtown. One piece of advice: parking is much easier to find in Stone Harbor. And AVOID WILDWOOD. It's really cheesy.

Why thank you, excellent advice. I just wanna get down there for a weekend at some point and check out what the hoopla is all about. Plus we may look for a vacation property to buy in the next little while as long as the market is so slushy. Maybe a Jersey shore property but then again maybe a cottage in Rhode Island wouldn't be bad either. Or I might just buy Madison Square Garden and live in a suite and kick the Rangers and Knicks out to Long Island
