As we roll along on Oscar weekend another of Johnny's favorites, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Now this is interesting; most of the people in the movie when it came out were unknowns and yet, three cast members have gone on to win Best Actor Academy Awards. Sean Penn of course, Forest Whitaker who made his debut in this movie who won for 'The Last King of Scotland' in 2006 and Nicolas Cage who was practically non-existent in the film version of the movie playing one of Brad Hamilton's (Judge Reinhold) posse. Cage is credited as Nicolas Coppola in this movie.
A couple of sidenotes to this movie; When Brad Hamilton is trying to pick up the hot chick in the car at the stoplight who laughs at him because he's wearing his Captain Hook Fish and Chips outfit, well that is Heart guitarist/singer Nancy Wilson. Nancy Wilson was and still is married to the film's writer, Cameron Crowe. Also, near the end of the movie at the school dance, you get to meet the science teacher's (Mr. Vargas played with aplomb by Vincent Schiavelli) hot buxom wife who was played by one Lana Clarkson, and she is the woman that Phil Spector murdered, OK, ALLEGEDLY murdered. Now you know.
