Jersey City Councilman Steve Fulop has drawn the wrath of the Jersey City Education Association and it's leader Tom Favia for opening his mouth and daring to let the truth spill out. Fulop said that Jersey City's schools "Continue to underachieve." Well that didn't sit well with the JCEA who responded by sending out a letter to more than 3,000 teachers and school staff.
So, which schools OVERachieve anymore? Which schools are doing all they can all the time? Johnny comes from a family of teachers and ya know what, 95% of them ARE underachieving now. Admit it, some of them can't do what they'd like to due to either being grossly underfunded or dealing with parents who think school is a babysitter or parents who think the school had better never ever disagree with their precious children. But to go off when someone lays it on the line and says schools underachieve is simply overreaching.

Sounds like someone should have held a mirror up to the JCEA long before this...
To be a public school teacher IS to be underpaid and under appreciated. Don't start being thin skinned, until EVERY child is excelling and is fully prepared to advance EVERY school is underachieving. You can never be an overachiever. It's just the way it works.
