Friday night MULTIMEDIA EXTRAVAGANZA with MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER!

Johnny knows who is gonna show up here very soon and be very happy Johnny chose Mary Chapin Carpenter tonight. Why, he and Trixie Action Space Punk went to see her at the Meadowbrook Theater one cool July Sunday night years ago.

If there's educating to be done on her, he'll let Trixie tell you in comments.

Here is Mary Chapin Carpenter covering Lucinda Williams' song 'Passionate Kisses'.

YAY!! And double YAY!

MCC is an all-time favorite of mine. She ruled the late 80s and 90s and she's still at it.

Passionate Kisses is on her most successful album 'Come On Come On' which is also her best imho. She had some big hits on that record but it's the songs that didn't make radio airplay that still do me in.

Rhythm of the Blues: 'I want a place to call my own, where you have never been. I want to look around and know you won't be coming back again, on some pretense paper-thin that I can see right through...'

Only a Dream:
The day you left home you got an early start/I watched your car back out in the dark/I opened the door to your room down the hall/ I turned on the light/but all that I saw/was a bed and desk and a couple of tacks/ no sign of someone who expects to be back/it must have been one hell of a suitcase you packed...

Only a Dream can still bring tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Listening to it for 17 years has done nothing to erode it's quiet power.

Thanks Johnny!

One of the most gifted songwriters EVER.

Remember how gorgeous and cool that night was temperature wise? Sitting outside in crisp 60ยบ weather on July 3rd was a treat. So was the show.
