Patti Smith and her band with a song she co-wrote with Bruce Sringsteen, 'Because the Night'. Johnny checked the Wikipedia page and immediately saw that whomever did it for this tune was a glaring doofus as this song was not ever produced by Todd Rundgren, it was from the Easter album and produced by Jimmy Iovine. Never trust Wikipedia for this stuff, sometimes trolls get there and wreck it for everyone.

Hearing this quintessential version makes you remember how lame and passionless Merchant's cover was.
Natalie and the Maniacs do a lot of covers. I have a few of them live but not 'Because the Night'. I really think if you cover a song you should bring something new to it, add something of interest that is uniquely yours.
